About Us
The Marina Grog & Galley Restaurant, overlooking Lake Lotawana, has a long and storied past. "Lotawana", the name of a famous Native American Princess, means "Sparkling Water". Milton Thompson imagined the lake would be a "Vacation Paradise". With the help of The Lake Lotawana Development Company, Lake Lotawana was incorporated as a city on November 24, 1958. Lake Lotawana is the largest private lake in the metropolitan Kansas City area. The lake has 600 acres of surface water, and 27 miles of shoreline. There are approximately 1,250 homes with about 80% of the residents living here year round. In fact our owner, Jack Schwindler was the first baby born in Lake Lotawana. The building was built in 1934 and maintained by the Kaw Point Boat Company. Over the years the business changed ownership and in services provided. It evolved from gasoline supply to a full service marina in the 1940’s. For 53 years, the Marina stayed that way until it was completely renovated to become the Marina Grog and Galley.
