Vinyasa yoga is often quickly paced flow where the asanas (postures) are linked together in a series of movements that are synchronized with the breath. Much emphasis is placed on the breath and the transition in and out of the asanas. The continual movements, from one pose to another, gives you an added cardiovascular benefit, which more traditional forms of yoga do not have. The routine practice of vinyasa yoga can increase muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, and reduce levels of stress. Vinyasa yoga offers much diversity. The pace can vary and there is no one particular sequence that instructors must follow. This flexibility allows the teacher to tailor the sequences to their own philosophy. So, if one class doesn't work for you, try another, until you find one that you are comfortable with.

Enjoy the best of vinyasa flow followed by restorative poses to complete your practice.
Intermediate Slow Flow
Class begins with a few minutes of centering, including intention setting and breath awareness. We then move into some gentle warm ups for the first 10-15 minutes which may include some neck stretching, cat cows, joint freeing etc. We then move into some standing flows including sun breathing and sun salutations, and then move into some balancing postures. We move back down to the floor for some cool down stretches and then the last ten minutes or so consist of a deep relaxation with guided meditation.
During Yin yoga practice, poses are held for about three to five minutes at a time in order to stretch the connective tissue around the joints and bring the practitioner to a state of mental calmness. When we take time, our nervous systems relax, our minds slow down, our muscles become supple, and our breath deepens. Our inner chemistry shifts towards a biological balance, which one experiences as peace, tranquility and stress reduction. In this class, you will learn to honor and work with your individuality, experiencing for yourself the union of your mind and body.

Root To Rise Vinyasa Flow
Start your Saturday off right as you rise and flow with Sarah! Expect to move through a series of postures that help build heat and release stuck energy. We will use the breath to root down and stay grounded in the present. Our Vinyasa practice will help you to open up to new possibilities and flexibility in your mind and body. Class ends with restorative postures to help you recharge and leave feeling more mindful and less mind"full" as you move into the rest of your weekend. All experience levels welcome!
Learn the basics of yoga in this comfortable environment.
"Motherhood, while almost never glamorous, is always beautiful". - Bunmi Laditan. This class aims to create a safe, supportive space for expecting moms to learn about the benefits of yoga, understand how to adapt their yoga practice to meet their body's needs, and connect with other moms in their community. The prenatal practice allows for many opportunities to find the balance between effort and ease. It also creates space for mamas to slow down, tune in, and take note of how they are feeling in the present moment without judgement. It gives them space to find the humor and humility to try a different route when a posture is "just not happening" and build confidence when they have found more space to open or strength to rise. This class aims to help mamas feel empowered through strong standing postures, to activate the pelvic floor muscles to help with delivery, and to offer a place of respite where they can focus on self-care. The connection with the breath (pranayama), the strength and stamina, and the ability to accept change with reverence that mamas cultivate during their prenatal practice will be invaluable during labor and will be also be useful tools as they journey into motherhood. Experience: Appropriate for moms at all levels of experience with yoga as well as at any stage of pregnancy. Partners, family, and friends are more than welcome to join moms for class as well!
Build a stronger body while releasing tension and flow your way into a more blissful state! You will be taken through poses and transitions slowly and mindfully. Our instructors will guide you in cultivating present moment awareness through anchoring into the breath and maintaining connection to it throughout class. This class is suitable for beginners with little yoga experience; however, the most experienced yoga practitioner will also be challenged as sometimes less is more.
60 minutes of vinyasa flow yoga in a heated room will have you sweating out toxins while your body and mind recharge and reset. A hot and sweaty workout you will leave you feeling refreshed long after you leave your mat!
Dharma yoga is a graceful, yet challenging form of yoga based on Sri Dharma Mittra's fifty years of practice of classical yoga. The practice is appropriate for students of all levels, from beginner to lifelong practitioners and accessible to so many because it meets each student where they are and according to their condition. As students move through the different series, they are encouraged to go deeper and experience the practice in a meditative and spiritual way. This class features Sun Salutations and Shiva Namaskara vinyasa as the warm up, followed by deeper meditative postures to allow students to receive the nectar of yoga through concentration, meditation and absorption. Pranayama and chanting may be included.

Yoga & Gong Bath
David's classes are a mixture of Hatha Flow, Kundalini Yoga and Yin Yoga. We always begin class by reciting the Adi Mantra and the Mangala Charn Mantra to "tune in" to the divine state of consciousness that permeates throughout the universe and the guru within which brings us from darkness to light. Throughout the class students will experience detailed alignment cues in order to move into poses (asana) safely and gracefully while holding them for specific durations of time. Students will also experience mindfully flowing through postures connected to the breath (vinyasa), as well as guided meditations and Kundalini Yoga kriya sets. The word "kriya" means action. It is an action that leads to a complete manifestation like a seed leads to a bloom, a thought into actuality, a desire to commitment. In Kundalini Yoga, a kriya is a series of postures, breath and sound that work toward a specific outcome. Each class is then brought to a close with David playing the gong while students rest in an extended savasana. During this time the sonic waves of sound and vibration produced by the gong bathe the students bodies and minds allowing them to completely let go, relax into clarity of truth and experience deep, profound rest.
Reiki Yoga is 60 minutes of intentional yoga that works through the chakra system with the purpose of creating energy in that space. We will work with colors, essential oils, and crystals to bring about a healing atmosphere. After we practice there will be 30 minutes of restorative savasana while each student receives a Reiki blessing from Rebecca.
Ashtanga Primary Series
Ashtanga Yoga is is a structured vinyasa-style class. Ashtanga Yoga came to the west through students of Sri Pattabi Jois, who passed away in 2009 after establishing his yoga center in Mysore, India. The first series begins with ten sun salutations (five A and five B), continues with a series of standing poses done on each side, and finishes with a set of inversions and seated poses, which are linked by a vinyasa sequence.
Flow & Restore with Reiki
This all levels class will combine vinyasa, yin and restorative yoga for a gentle flow that is not only relaxing but opens the body to receive Reiki blessings during savasana. Reiki is light energy healing that will clear the chakras to allow the prana or life force to flow freely, improving your quality of life!
Main Street Yoga was established in February 2017. We are honored to call Main Street in Historic Ellicott City our home. As a yoga studio we strive to offer a class for every body and mind. Our offerings include Beginner Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Gentle, Kid's Yoga, Reiki Yoga, Meditation, Prenatal, Yin, Kundalini and Gong. There a several Community Classes throughout the week as well for a nominal fee. MSY also provides water and yoga mats for our students if needed. Our Mission Yoga is a lifelong journey. Erin has been teaching group yoga classes since 2013. She is married with three lovely daughters, loves her dog, being outside and moving her body. In this fast paced world of pushing harder and doing more Erin finds yoga to be an escape from the serious business. She loves to laugh and play with new experiences in her vinyasa classes. She also holds a passion for yin yoga and the mindful time it brings for self care and understanding. Erin is the proud owner of Main Street Yoga.
Mother, Wife, and Teacher. Danielle brings a contagious passion for teaching and learning into each of her classes. She draws from over 20+ years of yoga and meditation practice and a lifelong dedication to wellness and the sacredness of personal journeys each and every day. It was through an intentional journey of personal healing and growth from an early life trauma that Danielle began her meditation and yoga practice nearly 25 years ago. Danielle earned her Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Maryland and received her 200 HR Yoga Teaching Training with Kim Manfredi through Charm City Yoga (now Yoga Works). Drawing always first from her practice of being a householder, wife, and mother, Danielle's classes are filled with a skillful attention to alignment and breath with verbal cues that powerfully strengthen the body and the mind, offering students an opportunity to tap into their deepest and most profound sources of power within themselves. Danielle's classes can be challenging, but students are carefully guided in a mindful asana practice that engages them on many levels, bringing a deep awareness to the subtle and transformative aspects of the practice. She genuinely wants her students to connect with and understand their bodies and themselves.
Courtney initially sought out yoga as a way to exercise and stay in shape. As her practice grew, she found herself coming to the mat more for the way yoga made her feel rather than for the more fitness-related benefits. She loved how she felt during and after her practice- how yoga not only affected her physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. She began to crave the presence she was able to tap into during her practice. This guided Courtney to her mat more and more frequently, deepening her practice. She began to notice how her time spent on her mat affected her life off the mat. Her mind, constantly planning and worrying, was more settled. She felt much more present in her life, which positively affected her relationship with herself and others. The effects Courtney experienced through her practice were so profound that she felt called to share it with others. Courtney received her 200 Hour Jivan Yoga Teacher training through Baltimore Yoga Village and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) with Yoga Alliance. She is currently pursuing her 300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training through The Yoga Center of Columbia. She is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and utilizes her 15 years of experience in that field to guide her teaching. Her classes emphasize the importance of alignment, stability and breath in order to create a foundation to mindfully flow and explore. Courtney teaches group and individual yoga classes in the Baltimore and Takoma Park areas.
Jen Lyons is 500 hour Yoga Teacher Certified. She completed her 200 hour training at the Anamaya in Montezuma, Costa Rica with Lagos.corp in the fall of 2015 with a specialization in Thai yoga massage. She then completed her 300 hour teacher training at Tambo Illusion in Tarapoto, Peru with The Kula Collective during the fall of 2016 with a specialization in Reiki. Jen is Reiki III attuned. She loves to combine energy healing into her classes while she teaches. She also enjoys mixing crystals, aromatherapy, asana and meditation together to help work to balance the Chakra system. Jen has sat several ten-day silent Vispassana meditation retreats in the Mid-Atlantic Region over the past eight years. Her philosophy on yoga is that she believes yoga is not solely about the asana but the all encompassing benefits you receive from the practice for your mind body and spirit. Yoga is a way of living. A way to remain in the present moment and be in tune with life. Jen uses her teaching cues to help guide, strengthen and deepen her students practice. She believes it is all in the personal practice. Jen implores her students to stay true to themselves and to cultivate their own individual practice within the energy of the group environment. Having begun his path of yoga 10 years ago, David has experienced true transformation of his mind and body. The practice and discipline of Yoga has allowed David to sustain a deep and rooted connection with his soul/spirit. Through the healing and awakening practice of yoga, David strives to assist people in developing a greater sense of awareness and how our bodies move and heal in space. This process of cultivating mindful awareness of our consciousness is facilitated through meditation, various breathing exercises, sacred mantra chanting and slow, controlled and mindful movements linked to our deep breathing. David's goal is to guide others in keeping the body strong, youthful, flexible and mobile so that we can all lead a long, fluid and inspired life of freedom and abundance during our time in this body. Your body is the temple that houses the divine essence of the creative consciousness that is Light, Love Intelligence. We brush our teeth everyday, why shouldn't we cleanse our mind daily as well? Lindsey is a military wife of 18 years and has an amazing 10 year old son and a 5 year old chocolate lab. She and her family have traveled quite a lot in the last 18 years to include Hawaii, California, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, and some other different countries. She just moved to Ellicott City not too long ago, but before Maryland she lived in Pensacola, Florida. In Florida, Lindsey had the opportunity to complete her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training as well as a 40-hour Yin Yoga Certification. She is also YogaFit Certified and registered with Yoga Alliance. Lindsey began her yoga journey in 2010 while completing her Associates Degree in North Carolina. She was able to keep a regular yoga routine with her fellow classmates, which led to a discovery of the principles of self-awareness and mindfulness. Understanding and appreciating all of what yoga had to offer, she decided that she wanted to pass these amazing benefits on to others. Currently, Lindsey loves to teach Basic Beginners as well as Yin Yoga, but doesn't mind exploring all the different varieties of yoga. In her class, she strives to keep a light-hearted and soothing tone with a supportive and positive atmosphere. She wants anyone attending her class to feel strength, inner peace, and relaxation when they leave.
Michele Bickley is in love with yoga and the art of sharing it ~ on and off the mat. She has been teaching yoga and dance for over 20 years and brings a bit of sunny Cali to her Maryland classes. Her passion for nurturing the spirit, feeling free in our body, and exploring the depths of this ancient yoga practice in an accessible way, is the foundation for her teaching. Michele addresses individual student needs within her group classes and includes hands-on adjustments, therapeutic work, and Thai Yoga massage.
Christine Dance, E-RYT 200/RYT 500, has been practicing yoga since 2000. With early experience in figure skating, yoga has been a natural step in understanding the beauty in a posture and sequence as well as the human body. Christine received her 200 hour teacher training from Sol Yoga in Frederick, MD and her 300 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training from Thrive Studio, in Rockville, MD. Christine enjoys teaching adult flow classes for beginners through advanced, leading her class from a healthy power sweat to restorative poses. Christine's classes incorporate body and mind exercise while focusing on alignment, strength, and breath– all to lead towards greater flexibility and strength both in yoga poses and in life. Christine loves to blend her classes with moments of deep spiritual awakening splashed with humor and strives to take her students to their emotional and physical "edge" each time they step on the mat. In addition, Christine is passionate about exploring the healing components of adaptive and trauma sensitive yoga for a variety of injuries, special conditions, and emotional traumas. Christine has certifications in Trauma Sensitive Yoga and a variety of adaptive yoga formats to work with special populations including those with traumatic pasts, mental health diagnoses, and/or special needs. With a Master's degree in Special Education, Christine is also certified in Childlight Yoga, Yoga for the Special Child, and developmental therapy, and teaches yoga to people with special needs in local schools and special centers. Christine offers a variety of trainings throughout Maryland in the areas of yoga for special needs, trauma sensitive yoga, and yoga in schools. In between yoga classes, Christine can be found teaching college Psychology or flying on Aerial Silks.
For Natalie, yoga is not just about the physical asanas but the connection with your body and breath and understanding the journey of life. When she entered into the business world in a call center, this stressful environment caused a lot of anxiety and tension to build up. She found yoga helped her manage her anxieties and soon meditation began to really evolve in her practice. She would find herself closing her eyes and learning to reconnect her breath with her body and her body with her mind on the job. It wasn't until Natalie left that position, that she saw how yoga can truly have a powerful effect on a persons mind and body. Knowing this made her want to become a yoga teacher to help spread the love and awareness to others about the wonderful effects of this practice.
For Krysta, yoga is more than simply a physical practice; it is a way to challenge and center the mind, an approach to tap into the ebb and flow of life, and a place to not take yourself too seriously. Krysta began practicing yoga as a way to further her knowledge about human anatomy and exercise. She received her 200 RYT at YogaWorks in 2013 (Formerly Charm City Yoga) under the guidance of Kim Manfredi. Through her steady practice and heartfelt listening, Krysta has found a way to navigate through life's challenges and struggles, and a path to a more blissful and soulful life. Krysta conveys a rejuvenating and powerful approach to Vinyasa yoga. Encouraging students to develop a curiosity and deep appreciation for their incredible bodies and minds, she challenges them to take risks, and never stop growing. Focusing on both physical and mental strength, Krysta's classes cultivate mindfulness, self-acceptance, and compassion. Expect to leave her classes feeling grounded and blissful with a reawakened zest for life.
Jenelle, a mother of three energetic curious children, began her yoga journey 20 years ago when taking Yoga as an elective in college. Along with a strong meditation practice, she discovered her mat became her own private island getaway. She found combining yoga, mindfulness, and meditation gave her a solid foundation for balancing a physical strengthening routine and tools to live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. Wanting to share Yoga with her children, Jenelle had difficulty finding local kid's yoga classes so decided to learn how to teach them herself. In 2016, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification with Charm City/YogaWorks under Emily Lodge and Kim Manfredi. With a passion to teach yoga and mindful meditation specifically to children, she completed the Cosmic Kids Yoga Teacher Training course and Mindful Educator Essentials by Mindful Schools, in March of 2017. Her children's teaching style infuses equal parts of yoga, mindful meditation, yoga games, silliness (a must!) and sometimes yoga related crafts. She loves instructing Themed Children's Yoga classes with an emphasis on building compassion, confidence, and tools to reduce anxiety. With her training, Jenelle started a business called Wildling Yoga. She teaches 8 week courses of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation to local Maryland school children. Jenelle also has a love for creating art. She is the designer of Yogimon, colorful fun yoga pose cards for everyone and a yoga pose zentangle adult coloring book due to be released in August 2017.
Kristen Knight Griffin
Kristen fell instantly in love with the way yoga invited her to open up and explore her inner Self throughout her struggle with depression. Her regular yoga practice allowed her to regain hope and find stability, grounding, tranquility, and happiness in her life. Yoga facilitated Kristen's exploration of gratitude in every aspect of life, which became instrumental in her healing process towards overcoming depression. Her classes will provide you with tools to find inspiration and happiness within your Self. Kristen believes that yoga is crucial to her own healing and wellbeing, and she now strives to help others find peace and wellbeing through the practice of yoga. Using tools such as gratitude and mindfulness, Kristen also integrates her knowledge and passion for psychology into her classes. Kristen creates a welcoming and healing space for anyone and everyone. She also strives to live a yogic lifestyle, which she incorporates into her classes, alongside her knowledge of yoga postures and principles. Classes with Kristen are playful and exhilarating, while also rejuvenating and empowering. Since completing her 200-hour yoga teacher training program at Gogo Guru in Ellicott City, MD, Sarah Mayhew has been teaching yoga in and around Baltimore. Sarah conveys an energetic, light-hearted, yet grounded approach to yoga, infusing her classes with opportunities for her students to find their edge and find their center. She brings her improvisational theater, music, and dance background to the table to help her students realize and embrace their grace, face challenges with a sense of adventure and humor, and focus their active, creative minds. She encourages her students to make time in their day for themselves, for gratitude, and for cultivating their practice on and off of their mats. Ever the yoga student herself, she has taken coursework in Yoga for the Classroom and training in Thai Yoga Massage and Bodywork. In addition, she is working on her Yoga for All Certification, which focuses on teaching yoga so that is it approachable and adaptable for all experience levels and diverse body types.
Priscilla Ruth completed her RYT-200 yoga teacher certification at Gogo Guru Yoga Studio in Ellicott City, MD, which included specific training on "The Art of Teaching Yoga to Children." She is the mother of three young daughters and has worked as a systems engineer for 16 years. Priscilla has taught many private and group yoga classes at yoga studios, community fitness centers, schools and churches. Priscilla teaches a variety of yoga styles, including vinyasa, restorative yoga, gentle yoga, kid's yoga, and family yoga. Priscilla currently teaches at multiple daycare centers, working with children from age 3 to 10. She is very excited to be sharing this gift with adults and children of all ages and abilities! Priscilla's goal when teaching yoga is not only to make it fun and exciting, but to teach how to be mindful and to offer respect for all. In addition to her yoga teaching, Priscilla has volunteered for years with Girl Scouts of America, her local Children's Ministry, and serves as a mentor for women and young girls in her community. She also loves coaching Girls Softball. In her own words: "I have taught people of many ages but no matter what age, one should leave my class feeling relaxed but energized, calm but focused, pain free and with a BIG smile! If I have learned anything from my various trainings, it is to Always Have Fun!"
Rebecca Slaven 200 RYT, Reiki Master, Young Living Oil distributor, and Comprehensive Healer. Rebecca graduated from Charm City Yoga Teacher Training May 2016. Since then Rebecca has continued her spiritual journey and taught private yoga lessons. Discovering what the body holds in an energetic way has developed a deeper understanding of how we move in our unique practice. As a healer it is my journey to help others find their own inner guide.
Pasha recently moved to historic Ellicott City from the lakes region of NH where she owned her own yoga studio for 20 years. She has completed two 200+RYT programs and has worked as a fitness professional and personal trainer for 30 years. Her passion is working with people new to yoga and people working with physical or emotional limitations and trauma. Pasha's style of teaching is kind, gentle, and simple. She hopes you can come to class, close your eyes, listen inward, move freely, and leave feeling more at peace in your mind and body. Pasha currently teaches Therapeutic Yoga on Wednesdays at 4:30pm and Strength and Length Core Yoga on Thursdays at 11am. She provides holistic personal training and life coaching at Inward Bound Studio in historic Ellicott City.
Yoga Nidra with Jennifer Vincent
When: Friday, January 19, 2018; Time: 7:00 PM 8:30 PM. Join Jennifer for one of her incredible yoga nidra journeys to rest and rejuvenation. What is Yoga Nidra?: Is it a pose? Guided imagery? An affirmation? A visualization tool? Mind-body therapy? A relaxation exercise? Yoga Nidra can be all of these things, and more--in essence, it's a highly effective meditation technique that's been around for thousands of years. Though yoga nidra is translated as "yogic sleep," this method is not really about getting in a good snooze. Guided by your teacher's voice, you identify sensations throughout your body and focus on your breath, while (ideally) remaining in a state of relaxed awareness so that you may release deeply held tensions, some of which you may not even be aware. You will leave your nidra session feeling nourished restored.

Please join Janice Ingson and Laura Solomon for an inspirational blend of vinyasa and restorative practice, writing with a series of guided poetry prompts, and sharing of our writing and wisdom. The yoga practice for this class has been created to help balance the second chakra, swadisthana chakra, where, energetically, our creativity resides. We will focus mainly on hip opening poses during this practice, in an effort to free creative energy. The writing portion of our workshop will focus on a series of fun, simple prompts designed to help us unearth our inner selves. Everyone is a writer and will enjoy writing poetry with these fun prompts. Participants will come away from this workshop inspired physically, mentally, and spiritually with a deeper awareness of themselves and others. Laura Solomon wrote her first poem at age 3 and continues to write regularly on her blogs www.autodidactpoet.blogspot.com and www.riskbeyondbravery.wordpress.com. She has performed her spoken word poetry around the Baltimore area and has been published in Dragonfly Arts Magazine. Laura is a licensed child psychologist who enjoys doing yoga at every possible opportunity. After many years of personal study and exploration into the practice of yoga Janice Ingson was certified to be a teacher in 2007. She is and will forever be grateful to her community of fellow practitioners and teachers of yoga. Janice's initial YTT was through YogaWorks, and she went on to complete Ana Forrest's Advanced Teacher Training. She has been very fortunate to study and practice with numerous remarkable yoga teachers, all over the place, and feels so blessed for all of her experiences. To Janice, teaching yoga is a "real job", and she is proud and honored to be sharing such a fantastic healing tool with anyone interested in learning.

Balanced Life 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is a powerful opportunity to delve deep into the study of yoga with our team of experienced yoga teachers. Whether you are looking to teach yoga, want to incorporate yoga into your current work or are driven to deepen your own personal practice, this training is for you. Our teacher trainers will strive to help trainees express their individual gifts and knowledge with confidence and poise. Partner Yoga and Massage with Courtney Lewis
When: Sunday, February 11, 2018; Time: 1:00 PM 3:30 PM. Touch helps to create and build trust as well as deepen our connection to one another. Bring your partner, spouse, friend or family member and join Courtney Lewis, Registered Yoga Teacher & Licensed Massage Therapist as she leads you through a partner yoga practice followed by partner massage. In our partner yoga practice, we will explore syncing our breath and movement as well as relying on our partner for stability and support. Following the yoga practice, Courtney will guide us to both give and receive a soothing and restorative Thai-style massage (students will be fully clothed for this type of massage) to ease tension and deepen connection. Flow & Restore Yoga and Acupuncture Workshop with Janice Ingson and Molly Dearstine
When: Friday, February 23, 2018; Time: 6:30 PM 8:30 PM. Janice Ingson and Molly Dearstine are returning with their very popular collaboration, offering an incredible gift of healing! This event starts with a 75-minute Warm Flow & Restore yoga class, and is followed by a long savasana enhanced by acupuncture! The Flow portion of class is movement paired with breath, and is designed to soften the places in the body where we tend to hold stress. This prepares us for the Restore portion of class, where the breath itself helps us to relinquish control and settle into the restorative postures. It's really quite a lovely healing practice, and Janice is turning up the heat a bit during the Flow part of class to help the softening process. The room will remain warm and cozy for the Restore portion, encouraging you to soften and allow the props to support you. The icing on top is that Molly will offer acupuncture in specific points (ear and third eye) that will help you to relax more fully into savasana. This class sells out, so please reserve your spot ASAP.
