Lux was created to fill a void in downtown Gainesville. It appeared at the time of planning and construction that most every bar was aimed to appeal to very young drinkers. It was our goal to create a place where people of all ages could mingle and feel comfortable. In order to accomplish this goal we put the highest priority on ambiance and customer service. We hired a staff who we felt would treat each of our customers with courtesy, kindness, and respect. We took time in our design to make the atmosphere feel as comfortable as a home away from home. Lux was not designed to emulate some big city. Instead it was designed to feel like what Gainesville should be. Lux has two floors with distinctly different feels. The first floor is like a neighborhood bar and the second is a lounge. Prior to the design phase many local bar patrons were asked what they liked and disliked in a bar. We used this feedback in many ways. Second hand smoke was the biggest dislike. Outdoor patios on both floors were added so that smokers and non-smokers alike could be welcomed with open arms. Recycled products were used where possible to help give us a warmth that new building materials cannot provide. We hope you enjoy what we have to offer.
