Lex Systems™ created one of the first computer-assisted time-keeping and billing systems, management information systems, and time-shared text processing systems for professional service firms. Those systems (called Legal-Ease(R)) were not designed by a group of computer programmers who hoped to create a solution that would meet the needs of the legal market.
They were developed under the guidance of Owen Rice. He is an experienced accountant and lawyer who first developed these automated system to meet the needs of his firm, one of the larger law firms in the southeast, where he was one of the managing partners.
Because of his success he was approached by Xerox and a group of IBM customers to develop a computer-assisted cost accounting system that is now known as The Count™. A guiding principle then, and now, is to provide a unique solution that is built around the needs of each organization’s operations and does not require the organization to purchase proprietary hardware from Lex Systems™.
