In 1998, with no such establishment in Philadelphia catering to fine, authentic French crêpes, La Crêperie Café was born and opened its doors to serving delicious crêpes of the finest and freshest ingredients in town!
What is a Crêpe?
A crêpe is a type of very thin, flat cake prepared from a batter (usually made from wheat flour). The word is of French origin, deriving from the Latin word crispa, meaning "curled." While crêpes originate from Bretagne, a region in the northwest of France, their consumption is nowadays widespread in France and they are considered a national dish, and they are also increasingly popular in North America and South America. Crêpes are served with a variety of fillings, from the most simple with only sugar to elaborate savory fillings.
Common savory fillings for meal crêpes include cheese, asparagus, ham, spinach, eggs, ratatouille, mushrooms, artichoke and various meat products.
When sweet, crêpes can be eaten as dessert. They can be filled with various sweet toppings including Nutella spread (hazelnut-based sweet spread), sugar (granulated or powdered), lemon juice, whipped cream, fruit spreads, custard and sliced soft fruits.
