For the beginner or the student who has been away from their practice for awhile, this basic yoga class focuses on awareness of breath and the connection with movement. It also awakens the relationship between mind and body as you learn the alignment principals and postural patterns of beginner yoga. Strength and muscle endurance isn't necessary but will be gained with regular attendance.
Margot Slow Flow
Slow flow normally refers to an approach to the postures. In Margot's style of teaching (40 years) the flow is of prana or vital breath energy, From session to session, the series of asanas varies but the rhythm of the class always includes moving in and out of poses, exploring with breath before staying and pausing to integrate. Her aim is the same as all teachers at One Love: a quiet, undistracted mind, a peaceful heart and a feeling of integration.
Slow Flow

How do I start classes at the Kent Yoga Center?
Just show up! Most classes are drop-in classes – you can start anytime without notifying us first. Classes that are run as a series or a workshop may require your advance registration. Classes are generally not held on major holidays and we may cancel during a travel advisory. You can get on our newsletter list to receive updates or check the website prior to leaving for class.
What should I bring to class?
Yourself, of course! Everything else is optional. We have mats, blocks, straps, blankets and bolsters for your use. Most students bring their own mats (a little more sanitary) and most have a favorite cottony or wool blanket or firm cushion they bring from home. Please feel welcome to use our props until you find ones that suit you. We have props for sale as well.
What should I wear to class?
Start with comfort. Wear stretchy clothes with comfortable waistbands and good coverage. Please dress modestly. That said, unless it is really warm plan to wear layers – a tee-shirt, tank top or long sleeved light shirt under a sweater or sweatshirt. Please do not wear shorts unless it is really warm or your internal temperature runs hot. You will remove your shoes so wear warm socks when the weather is cold.
Which class is best for me?
First figure out which classes you could attend, given your schedule. If you are a beginner you might attend a Gentle, Gentle/Moderate or Moderate class first. Gentle and Gentle/Moderate classes are generally accessible to everyone. If you are in pretty good shape physically and do not have mobility issues, you could try a Moderate class. The truth is that there are new people starting up all the time in all of the classes so feel welcome to try any class to see if it is a good fit. You could also email us or call to discuss your particular situation.
Should I come early to the first class?
That is a good idea. Come 10-15 minutes early to complete a registration and health history form, to meet the teacher, and to get oriented. The teacher may want to discuss your health history form with you privately. Make sure you let the teacher know if you have a chronic health problem, a recent injury or if you are pregnant. Teachers sometimes arrive just a few minutes before class time so please wait if you are early and the door is not yet open.
How do I pay for classes?
There are a few ways to pay for class. You can just pay a drop-in fee ($12) or you can purchase a package of classes either at the studio or online. The center accepts cash, checks or credit cards. Write checks to: Kent Yoga. You can purchase classes, workshops and passes on this website. Our passes are now "virtual". Your attendance is tracked and you will be emailed when you have 1 pass left.
What should I expect to do in class?
First of all you will be asked to take care of yourself and to listen to your body's signals. The teacher gives suggestions (not orders) and often offers choices. Please honor your own limits. We do expect you to participate as fully as possible but you can chose to sit something out or do a modified posture. Our teachers have been trained in therapeutic yoga and can often make suggestions that can help gradually open, heal or prevent further injury to compromised areas. Expect body and breath awareness guidance, breath/body warm-ups, yoga asanas (postures), and then a deep relaxation period at the end. Many classes begin with a relaxation, too. Most classes are scheduled for 75-90 minutes, although a few are 60 min. If you are a few minutes late, please center yourself before joining the activity. Classes involve lying down on the floor, seated on the floor (with props), and standing. Finally, expect to enjoy the class!.
Here, at the Silk Mill, we are surrounded by gardens, tall trees, flowing water and occasional train whistles. Downtown Kent, and our "sister studio" One Love Yoga, is just across the Main Street Bridge, 5 minutes away. We maintain a schedule of unique year-round drop-in classes that attract a mix of new and long-time students, and we offer a range of topical workshops and special classes taught by experienced staff and guest teachers.
