There was a time, not so long ago when sushi and traditional Japanese cuisine was a rarity in the heart of Minneapolis. Now we have a host of fine Japanese and sushi restaurants all over, but not south of the river. After years of traveling north to get fine Japanese dining experience Kami’s co-owners discovered they were not alone in their journey. The love of sushi and fine Japanese cuisine motivated them to open up a restaurant to share their passion with you, their neighbors.
The word Kami has multiple meanings in Japanese. It means delicious taste, taking something into consideration, protection, superior, and emperor. The co-owners took into consideration naming the restaurant something that would truly resonate with their commitment to protecting their culinary traditions of delicious food and superior service, thus elevating their guests’ experience liken to emperors. It wasn’t a coincidence that the name Kami appeared, it was fate.
