Horst and Paula met in 1962 while in New York. Their first restaurant, The Black Forest Inn, in Stanhope, New Jersey opened in 1969. They relocated from New Jersey to San Diego in 1979. The Kaiserhof Restaurant opened off Adobe Falls Road in 1980. When the restaurant moved to its current location in 1992, their son Peter became involved and along with his parents, still offer the finest German cuisine in San Diego.
