When practiced in a consistent manner, the poses strengthen, purify and align the body, breath and mind. Pranayama classes explore one of the forgotten and mystical limbs of yoga: yogic breath techniques.Prana is the life force. Ayama means extension. A regular pranayama practice is said to destroy all diseases and karmas. In Pranayama classes you will learn how to: deepen and lengthen your breath; practice dynamic pranayamas and kriyas (cleansing techniques); apply the three bandhas (energetic locks); retain the breath (kumbhaka); practice slow pranayamas that are soothing; The class opens with a Sanskrit chant and concludes with meditation and final relaxation. Everybody is welcome to this practice, though 6 months of asana practice is recommended and regular participation encouraged. A regular practice of Pranayama will greatly deepen your asana practice and help you explore the subtle layers of your being.
