Located on the bottom floor of a 1920s building in the heart of downtown Glendale, JAX Bar & Grill was opened by restaurateur Jeff Williams in 1984. Inspired by the restaurant's turn-of-the-centry ambiance and stamped copper ceiling, JAX was originally conceived as a "Cheers"-style pub and sports bar. In 1985, one year after JAX' opening, Williams placed a stage between the long, narrow dining room and bar, introduced live jazz seven nights a week, and within six months established JAX as one of Southern California's premier jazz supper clubs. With an emphasis on straight-ahead jazz, JAX has featured many of Southern California's greatest jazz legends and rising new talents for nearly a quarter century--all with a no cover and no minimum policy. As a restaurateur, Jeff Williams knows all about food: how to prepare it and how to price it right. Locally, his other restaurants include Clancy's Crab Broiler, The Star Cafe, Black Cow Cafe, and Hamburger Central. Jeff believes in large servings at affordable prices, and he's created a variety of menus at JAX with something for everyone. Every item on the menus can be served in the bar, including the popular Little Snacks and Small Plates.
