New patient appointment, initial exam and acupuncture
This price includes the initial exam and standard acupuncture treatment only. Other modalities may be offered if indicated (herbal therapy, electric stimulation, guasha, cupping, etc) and will incur extra charges if used. There is paperwork that will need to be completed prior to your appointment time; this will be emailed to you. If you don't have access to a printer, please contact us for alternate arrangements. Please let us know if you need the ADA table, so that we can be sure to arrange our schedule to accommodate this need. Echo will need access to your arms from the shoulders down and your legs from mid thigh down, so if you'd like to bring shorts (or skirt) and a tank top, that would be ideal. We do have standard hospital gowns here that we can provide for you to wear if you prefer. We are not able to take credit or debit cards, so please bring cash or check for your payment. It is a good idea to have eaten something before your treatment- it doesn't have to be immediately before, just don't skip breakfast/lunch if you can avoid it. If you smoke or drink caffeine, we recommended avoiding those for at least 2 hours prior to your appointment as they are stimulants which can make you more sensitive to the pins. We treat many patients with allergies, so please avoid wearing perfume / cologne on treatment days. Acupuncture is a form of therapy, and not a magic fix. In China, people will receive daily acupuncture therapy until they are better. This is because treatment effect is cumulative - each session builds on the effects of the one before it until you are better and no longer need treatment (for acute conditions) or until you are better and we can step you down to maintenance care (for chronic conditions). Symptoms will return between treatments; you get to keep track of how much relief you get and for how long each time. Generally here we have found that if we start you at 2-3 times a week for the first 10-12 sessions, you can get a rapid rate of response to the treatments. I've found over the years that once you have improved by 80% or more, enough physiological changes have taken place that we can begin to wean you off of treatment while maintaining and continuing the progress. Some things though are not "curable" and we are looking at pain management - in these cases, once we have stopped progressing / plateaued, we wean you off to a maintenance level (often one treatment every 1-3 months). For mild problems / acute issues, we will usually see you 3-6 times in a two week period and re-evaluate. For more severe or chronic problems, we start with 2-3 treatments per week for four weeks and then re-evaluate. These are rough guidelines. Everyone heals at a different rate dependent on lifestyle, genetic, dietary, and other factors. Please remember to book your follow up appointments early, so you get the times you wish. Please feel free to contact us with any questions; we love being here for you, and look forward to helping you
