Introduction to Yoga
Providence Yoga for Beginners: Suitable for those who are new to yoga or to the Iyengar system. Basic principles are introduced and a foundation for practice is established. Intro Class is closed to drop-in students to provide quality instruction and progression to enrolled participants.
For students with some Iyengar yoga experience. In addition to the 30 poses taught in the Introductory classes, new standing poses, forward extending poses, twists and headstand are taught in this series.
For students who have attended level 1 classes and are interested in a more challenging class. Some of the level 2 poses are introduced.
For students who are strong in standing poses and shoulderstand and can hold downward facing dog pose for at least 2 minutes. Forward extensions, back extensions, arm balancing and variations in head stand are introduced as well as other complementary poses.
Advanced Yoga Providence: For students who have completed level 2 and feel confident in the poses taught at that level. Instructor's permission required to attend.
Advanced yoga providence: for students who are experienced iyengar yoga practitioners. Full arm balance, headstand and variations, back arching poses, deep forward extensions, and profound restoratives and pranayama are taught. Instructor's permission required to attend. Rope sirsasana, (rope headstand) is a relaxing way to invert without weight bearing on the head. Students learn this in level 1 classes as long as they are willing to give it a try. Our instructors are experienced in teaching this to students who are eager to learn. If this is not an option for some students, then, of course, the teacher gives an alternative option.

IYS is a fully equipped yoga studio. We have mats, blankets, straps, and blocks for each student. The Dharma Wall Rope System, a Tressler, and numerous benches for various uses are available for all to use in their practice. Yoga props are for sale to enhance home practice. We keep the temperature in the 70's year round.
