Flagship Beers
The Serenity of Orcas Island in a Glass.
Elwha Rock IPA 6.3% ABV 100 IBU
This is the beer that started it all- the community's love of this brew led to the initial formation of the business! Inspiration for the name came from the notorious Elwha ferry incident wherein, legend has it, the captain was distracted by a lady-friend and ran the boat aground off the coast of Orcas. Floral, citrusy, and earthy with a crisp finish. Bright and zippy hop presence that crashed into a grounded, supportive body. The malt foundation balances the hop bitterness in this classic Pacific Northwest style India Pale Ale. Dry hop: Chinook, aroma hop: Centennial, bittering hop: Zeus.
Old Madrona Imperial Red 8.3% ABV 80 IBU
This flagship beer was the first collaboration between our three brewer-owners, Nate, Becca, and Jim. They created it for a friend who loved mixing barleywine with IPA. The result has become the signature beer of Island Hoppin'. An imperial red with full malt and hop body for an exceptionally smooth, strong ale. Ruby red color reminiscent of the eponymous Madrona tree. Dried fruit aromas lead the way to a strong, sweet, and malty beer that is dangerously sippable. Full, round mouthfeel, brightened by Zythos hops. Boozy, delicious, and a nice sipper but not to be messed with! The Old Madrona won the People's Choice Award at the 2014 Anacortes Oktoberfest. Thank you!
K-Pod Kolsch 5.2% ABV 18 IBU
German style ale that drinks like a lager. Light and refreshing, our Kolsch was crafted by head brewer Nate for his hardworking friends to enjoy after work. During the beer's initial fermentation, a local resident pod of Orca whales had a baby- and the K-Pod Kolsch was born. The bready, smooth malt character of the pale and pilsner malt play well with the gentle bitterness of the EKG hops. Pairs well with food and summertime.
Rotating ISA
We like to try out new hops, and the best way we've found to do that is to have a rotating selection of a Session IPA; hence the ISA. No telling how long any specific batch will last!
Dockside Schwarzbier 5% ABV 15 IBU
This classic German style of lager is designed to showcase the malt for an instant before disappearing cleanly, with a surprisingly light body and an off-dry finish. Toasted robust malt on the palette, very light hop aroma; this deceptively drinkable beer will delight your tastebuds year-round.
Fir Island Raspberry Wheat 5.3% 20IBU
Made with organic golden raspberries, and an American wheat body; this has quickly become a favorite. On the dry side, this fruit beer is a summer favorite!
Old Salts Brown Ale 6% ABV 40 IBU
Our tasting room is full of remarkable "Old Salts" telling tales over a pint. This remarkable Pacific Northwest style brown ale stands out for its undeniable charm- the allure of centennial hops and roasted malt aromas lead the way to an off-dry , full bodied ale with the richness of cocoa nibs.
Yardarm Oatmeal Stout 6.8% ABV 35 IBU
Slightly dry, opaque, jet-black ale with a creamy, roasty full body. Dark roasted caramel aromas with chocolate and vanilla notes. "Sun over the Yardarm" is a nautical saying for the appropriate time for the first drink of the day.
Sunrise Amber Ale 6% 35 IBU
Rich amber color, just slightly malt forward but kept from sweetness by East Kent Golding hops, a slight nutty flavor. It personally makes me think of creamy peanut butter cookies.
Billz Pillz
A 90 minute pilsner brewed with Pilsner malt from Idaho and all Golding hops. Crisp, clean, with a slight hoppy nose.
Comet Pale Ale
Brewed with all Comet hops, the light crisp body of the malts, allows the Comets to shine.
