Botox FAQ
How does it work?
BOTOX safely reduces the activity of muscles, relaxing the skin and erasing the fold-line wrinkles. This look is achieved by injecting small doses into specific muscles, which creates a natural softening of unwanted lines and wrinkles without removing your facial expressions.
Who should perform injections?
Injectable fillers and BOTOX are best administered by a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who understands skin issues and has knowledge of molecular anatomy. If BOTOX is not injected properly, one can lose the action of muscles of expression.
What is BOTOX?
BOTOX, by Allergan, is a purified protein made from a bacterium called "clostridium botulinum Type A." BOTOX® has been used medically and cosmetically for more than 25 years and, when used correctly, is one of the safest cosmetic treatments performed today.
What results can I expect?
You can expect BOTOX to diminish or eliminate the lines, wrinkles or furrows on your face. In the hands of a board-certified skin expert who is skilled and experienced, BOTOX can return your natural, youthful appearance.
What areas can be treated with BOTOX?
BOTOX is used to treat frown lines, crow's feet and forehead furrows caused by muscle contraction. It can also be used to treat lines on the neck.
How many units will I need?
Although many facilities provide pricing per unit, the number of units you will need is dependent on the area you wish to effect and your muscle strength. A board-certified dermatologist with years of experience and extensive training is the best choice for customizing each individual's needs and delivering the best results at optimum value.
How long does it take to work, and how long does it last?
BOTOX Cosmetic results become apparent in the first three to five days after treatment and in about seven days for full results. Treatments last for three to four months. For best results, three to four treatments are recommended per year. After repeated injections the results may be even longer lasting.
Does it hurt?
Most patients say BOTOX treatments are no more painful than a mosquito bite. Administered by a skilled and experienced skin doctor, the tiny injections should be quick and nearly painless!
Is it safe?
BOTOX has an excellent safety record and millions of procedures are done annually without any significant side effects. Just like any medicine, too much BOTOX is not good for you. BOTOX is safe when carefully harnessed into small, safe doses.
How should I prepare for injections?
There are no preparations needed for BOTOX treatment.
What will I look like right after treatment?
You can expect some minor, temporary swelling or redness. Ice packs can help to speed recovery from the treatment.

Co2 Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQ
What exactly is the DOT CO2 Laser?
During the past five years, new technology called fractional laser resurfacing has been developed which has dramatically shortened recovery time and lessened the occurrence of complications. With fractional laser resurfacing, the laser beam is broken up or fractionated into many small micro beams (dots!) which are separated so that when they strike the skin's surface, small areas of the skin between the beams are not hit by the laser and are left intact. These small areas of untreated skin promote a much more rapid recovery and healing with less risk of complications. The small areas treated by the fractional micro beams, called micro treatment zones, cause sufficient laser injury to promote new collagen production and resultant facial skin rejuvenation.
What Will DOT CO2 Laser Therapy Do for Me?
Wrinkles, skin discoloration, sun spots and skin laxity may be reduced or eliminated with dot therapy. Also, if you have scars from acne or other skin injuries, then you may also be a candidate for this procedure. Using dot co2 laser therapy, in less than 30 minutes in your doctor's office, you can restore your skin's youthful appearance, and it typically will last for many years!
What is a SmartXide DOT CO2 Laser Therapy treatment like?
Treatment begins with understanding the patient's desires and needs. The laser settings dr. Hubbell chooses are determined by the problem the patient wishes to improve. While most treatments will improve both skin color and provide skin tightening or scar improvement, dr. Hubbell has the ability to emphasize one area over another. Superficial problems like pigment disorders or mild wrinkles are treated with different laser parameters than are deeper problems such as scars or deep skin creases. Skin problems in areas off of the face can also be treated. Upper eyelids can be done with laser eye shields in place. The area is first covered with a topical anesthetic. Using the topical anesthetic, often supplemented by small amounts of local anesthetic injections and oral pain medicine, allows the smartxide dot treatment to be done with little discomfort.
So how well does SmartXide DOT CO2 Laser actually work?
Smartxide dot co2 laser treatment should replace conventional co2 resurfacing as the "gold standard" of treatment and should dominate a large part of the cosmetic market for many years to come. With the smartxide dot co2 fractional laser and modern techniques, facial skin can be resurfaced in the office setting in a manner that is very comfortable for the patient.
So, what kind of anesthesia and downtime are we talking about?
The dot smartxide treatment typically requires only local, topical anesthesia (for the smaller facial areas) that is applied several minutes prior to the procedure. For full face treatments, injectable local anesthetic may also be used, rendering the treatment very comfortable. At approximately three to four days after the procedure, you will peel the upper layers of skin, revealing a fresh, new surface. We prescribe medications during this period to promote wound healing and minimize discomfort. After this phase, there may be some residual redness but most patients can resume their normal activities. The results of the new collagen production begin to show at about three to four weeks and continue for months after the procedure, and we would like you to follow-up at this point.
Who is a candidate for SmartXide DOT CO2 Laser Treatment?
Dot therapy can be used to treat the skin of most adults and most skin types. It is ideal to treat the signs of sun-damage including pigment irregularities, wrinkles, mild skin laxity and sagging, and rough texture. It also can be used to treat most types of acne scarring and stretch marks. We also have several other treatments that we couple with dot therapy if necessary, depending on an individual's needs, to maximize results.
How long does treatment take?
Most treatments last no more than one hour.
How quickly will I recover?
About three to four days after the procedure, the upper layers of skin will peel, revealing a fresh, new surface. After this phase, there may be some residual redness but most patients can resume their normal activities. The results of new collagen production begin to show at about three to four weeks after the procedure. You must avoid the sun for about four weeks after treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
From day one through day three or four, you should expect redness, peeling and significant, but diminishing, swelling. Discomfort is generally mild and on the order of a brisk sunburn. Dr. Hubbell will prescribe specific rub-on medications during this period to promote healing and minimize discomfort. Sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat will be used when outdoors to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the healing time.
Does it hurt?
Due to the power of the dot co2 laser, topical anesthetic is applied, allowing the treatment to be done with little to no discomfort. Stronger treatments to help more severe skin damage usually require the addition of local anesthetics and oral medication just before the procedure, providing comfort throughout the procedure. Post-treatment pain medications are not typically needed as there is usually only a sensation of mild sunburn. Effective pre- and post-treatment instructions will be provided.

Kybella
Achieve a youthful profile with an injectable treatment for excess chin fat. KYBELLA® should be done by board certified physician skin expert. Careful and precise injections of KYBELLA® are necessary to avoid inadvertently destroying skin cells. Dr. Hubbell will discuss if KYBELLA® should be used in combination with other cosmetic enhancement procedures.
Are you bothered by a double chin?
Would you like to non-surgically remove moderate to severe fat below the chin and contour your chin profile? Dr. Chris Hubbell now offers KYBELLA®, a prescription medicine that is injected in adults to treat chin fat.
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) safely and effectively treats moderate-to-severe fat below the chin, known as submental fat.
KYBELLA® is identical to the deoxycholic acid molecule that is produced in the body and works to naturally help the body permanently destroy and absorb fat.
Kybella FAQ
Who is a candidate for KYBELLA® Injectable Treatments?
Chin fat impacts men and women of all ages. Submental fat or fullness affects people who are overweight but also those of normal weight due to aging and genetics. This area of fat is resistant to diet or exercise. If you are an adult and desire to non-surgically reduce your chin fat and re-contour your chin profile, KYBELLA® may be right for you.
How many treatments do patients need to see results?
Dr. Hubbell advises patients that the number of injections and treatments varies based on individualized needs. After a medical examination of the fat in the neck area and a discussion of the desired aesthetic goals, Dr. Hubbell will discuss the recommended treatment plan including the number of treatments needed. A typical treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes and sessions are spaced one or two months apart.
When do patients see results?
Typically, patients can expect to see results in two to four treatments with complete results usually by six months. Comfort measures are taken to provide little to no discomfort. Minor swelling may occur following the injection but quickly subsides.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ
What is laser hair removal and how does it work?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses an intense beam of light that passes through the skin to destroy individual hair follicles responsible for hair growth. Lasers preferentially target naturally pigmented hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
Who is a good candidate for LHR?
To enhance safety and effectiveness, Dr. Hubbell will conduct a short pre-examination of the desired treatment area. Laser Hair Removal works best for those with lighter skin and dark hair; however, new technology allows the treatment of darker skin tones, too. While permanent hair reduction is available for any skin type and most hair colors, some patients may be less than ideal candidates. Dr. Hubbell will conduct a short pre-examination of the desired treatment area to determine if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser hair removal can be accomplished in several quick and comfortable treatments. There are three main phases of the hair growth cycle and laser hair removal can only affect hair in active phases of growth. At any given time there are many hairs that are in a phase that is not responsive to the effects of laser hair removal. To achieve the best outcome several treatments are needed to affect all unwanted hair. You will see a noticeable difference with each session.
What do I need to do to prepare?
Because the laser light energy is targeting pigment, you can minimize risk by avoiding ultraviolet light and artificial tanning agents to the treatment area for several weeks before and about one week after treatment. You can maximize the effectiveness of laser hair removal by keeping the hair in the follicles-don't wax, pluck, or tweeze for several weeks before treatment.
Is it safe?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure! Make sure you are evaluated by a medical doctor, preferably a skin expert such as a dermatologist, before undergoing any laser treatment. Our estheticians are highly trained and under the on-site supervision of Dr. Hubbell while your treatment is being performed.
Does LHR hurt?
Most people feel only a slight, momentary snap at the treatment site. Your treatment will be performed in a safe, private and comfortable setting and will usually be completed within several minutes with little to no discomfort.
What do I expect post treatment?
Most people can resume daily activities immediately following a treatment.
Photodynamic Therapy
Clears acne, smooths texture, reduces pores and corrects pigmentation.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is revolutionizing the treatment of acne and skin rejuvenation.
Acne or Skin Rejuvenation PDT treatments using Levulan involve the application of a photosensitizing agent which is then activated with light. This procedure is nearly painless and can help your skin to look smoother and more natural. Acne treatments come in all shapes and sizes, and this is one of the more advanced options. Schedule a consultation appointment to see if photodynamic therapy is right for you.
Photodynamic Therapy Results
This therapy results in significant improvements in:
Moderate to severe acne
Oiliness
Pore size
Skin texture
Pigmentation
Photodynamic Therapy Reduces
Photodynamic Therapy Reduces Rosacea and Pre-Cancerous Growths
Being sunburned even as little as just once before the age of 18 years old increases the risk of Actinic Keratosis.
Actinic Keratosis, the earliest form of cancerous lesions, occurs most often on the skin surface of people with fair skin.
The Keratosis is identified as a persistent, discreet, slightly-raised, and rough lesion.
It is classified as a precancerous growth, and when left untreated, can develop into squamous cell carcinoma (which can become deadly). Treating the lesions before they have a chance to become cancer is your best defense.
Alternative to Accutane-Type Medications
Photodynamic acne treatment involves three mechanisms of action against acne. This is exciting because sebaceous glands are the root cause in the formation of acne so it has a long lasting effect even on severe acne.
Levulan treatment inactivates the bacteria that triggers acne
Exfoliates the skin to unclog pores
Shuts down the sebaceous glands in the skin
Photodynamic Therapy FAQ
What can I expect at the time of treatment?
First, a certified, experienced and dermatologist-trained technician will apply the Levulan. After about one hour, the Levulan will be activated with IPL (Intense Pluse Light) and/or LED (Light Emitted Diode). You will be given special goggles to wear to protect your eyes.
What should I expect after treatment?
You should stay out of the sun and bright light for 48 hours. The skin will turn red and swollen in the following three to seven days just like a mild to moderate sunburn. Some peeling may be noted. There may be some discomfort but no significant pain.
How many treatments will I need?
Generally, you will need at least three treatments with three to four weeks between each appointment.
Photorejuvenation
Photorejuvenation is a laser-like process that treats the outer layer of the skin and is commonly used on face, neck, décolleté, hands, arms and back.
It is a medical treatment that uses gentle pulses of intense, optimized light to target, breakdown and dissolve elements of skin discolorations and provide mild collagen stimulation for improved texture.
Quick, easy, non-surgical rejuvenation with no downtime!
Photorejuvenation is a nonsurgical approach to skin renewal that can transform your looks for the better—and it lets you return to your normal activities right away. While most patients see results after just one treatment, two to three treatments may be necessary depending on the severity of your skin condition. Photorejuvenation sessions are typically quick and vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Safety measures are always utilized and most patients experience little to no discomfort.
Clear, Radiant and Youthful Skin
We all want clear skin, but nature has a way of sabotaging us with frustrating imperfections, especially as we age and sun damage accumulates. Photorejuvenation can help remove skin imperfections and address aging skin issues such as:
Sun spots
Rosacea and redness
Broken capillaries
Freckles and age spots
Skin texture and tone
Enlarged pores
Birthmarks
Fine lines
Flushing
Photorejuvenation FAQ
What is optimized photorejuvenation?
It is a cosmetic treatment that uses gentle pulses of intense, optimized light to treat undesirable pigment and vessels, which can occur as a result of aging and sun damage.
What types of results can I expect?
You can expect to see a decrease in the appearance of skin pigment and vessels for a more even skin tone.
How does it work?
Photorejuvenation uses an optimized light device to deliver energy into your skin, targeting vascular and pigmented lesions, which slowly disappear as your body's natural healing process progresses.
How long does it take?
The photorejuvenation procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes for a full face treatment or less time depending on the size of the treatment area.
How many treatments will I need?
You can see some improvement immediately. Only one or two treatments may be needed; depending on the severity of your conditions, several treatments may be necessary to achieve your best results.
Does it hurt?
Comfort measures are provided and most people feel little to no discomfort during the procedure.
Is it safe?
Under the guidance of a trained skin specialist such as a board-certified dermatologist whose staff is certified, trained and directly supervised by Dr. Hubbell's on-site presence during the treatment, you can feel safe during your photorejuvenation treatment. Our office employs the highest safety protocols and utilizes the lastest technology which comes equipped with manufacturer safety device measures in place.
How quickly will I recover?
You can resume regular daily activities right away and start to see some improvement immediately.
What can I expect following treatment?
Typically, most people experience no discomfort immediately following treatment; however, an occasional patient may experience a mild, sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling, which usually lasts two to twenty-four hours.
Sclerotherapy
Getting rid of unsightly leg veins with sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy is the most common and effective treatment of spider veins on the legs. Dr. Hubbell will inject an approved medical grade liquid into the vein which causes the vein walls to microscopically swell, stick together, seal shut, and fade within a few weeks. This treatment does not require anesthesia, can be done in his office and has little to no downtime. On average, two treatments are needed to remove spider veins in the legs.
Safe, Easy and Effective Treatment for Leg Veins
Various chemical substances are utilized in injection treatment of veins.
Common among these are sodium tetradecyl sulfate, hypertonic saline and polidocanol. There is little or mild discomfort at the injection site. A pressure dressing or graduated support stocking may be applied to the area following injection, so that the veins will remain empty of blood for a short period.
Most of the objectionable veins can be obliterated.
Because the veins of the lower extremities are under high pressure, there is a tendency for the development of new spider veins. Depending on genetics, lifestyle and health status, an individual may need to return to our office for rechecks and minor additional treatments every year or two.
Sclerotherapy is an affordable, effective and safe method of treating these unwanted veins.
In some cases, leg veins can also be eliminated with the use of a Laser Vein Therapy.
What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins can be aesthetically unattractive and embarrassing.
Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small red and purple veins in the skin that have a spider web-like appearance.
Spider veins are different from varicose veins which are larger veins, located more deeply, that may appear as bumps or lumpy protrusions under the skin, with or without a bluish coloration.
These veins occur when one-way valves don't work properly, and it is important to see a vascular surgeon for this condition.
Sculptra
Sculptra® is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time by replacing lost collagen, giving you a more natural-looking appearance that is long lasting.
But Sculptra® is not a wrinkle filler, it's a volumizer. It replaces the natural volume (fat) loss that occurs as we age – the volume loss that is responsible for the appearance of age. It is the first FDA-approved product of its kind that stimulates your body to replace collagen lost during the aging process.
Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow eyes.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a safe, synthetic and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of facial aging. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required.
Sculptra FAQ
What's Sculptra® Aesthetic made of?
Sculptra® is made up of poly L lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer that is both resorbable and biocompatible. PLLA has been widely used for many years in dissolvable sutures so its compatibility with the body is proven.
How does Sculptra® Aesthetic work?
Sculptra® is not a wrinkle filler but a bio activator or "volumizer." It works by stimulating the body to produce new collagen at the sites of injection, thereby replacing lost volume and contours to restore a fuller, more youthful appearance. Sculptra® does not give results immediately. There is a time factor involved since the true volume effect is created by your own collagen, not the product itself. This collagen replenishment takes place over a period of several months. Patients usually receive more than one injection session to accomplish optimum re-volumization.
Where can Sculptra® Aesthetic be used?
While our faces appear to fall with time, they actually lose volume and deflate. This deflation and volume loss leaves us looking less three-dimensional than we did when we were younger. Volume restoration brings back the dimensional qualities, improves symmetry and can 'pick up' sagging skin. Sculptra® can be used to restore volume to hollow areas of the temples, cheeks, chin and under the eyes, as well as to define the jaw line. It is not recommended for use in and around the lips. Lips and wrinkles are best treated with other products such as Juvederm® or Radiesse®.
How is Sculptra® Aesthetic administered?
Each treatment consists of a few injections to the areas to be volumized (e.g. temples, cheeks, chin, and jaw line). The product is administered using local anesthesia with minimal discomfort.
What are the side effects of Sculptra® Aesthetic?
As with all other injections there can be temporary swelling and bruising. Otherwise, there is no 'downtime.' Some patients have a brief, but usually not visible, papules under the skin which resolve spontaneously over a period of weeks to months.
How long does Sculptra® Aesthetic last?
The lasting effects of Sculptra® vary from patient to patient; however, studies have shown that some Sculptra patients have seen results lasting up to or greater than two years from the first treatment. Periodic touch-up treatments will maintain the desired effects. The results from Sculptra® are not immediate; Sculptra® provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. Usually it takes three to four sessions spaced out by four to eight weeks between the sessions to complete the treatment. Dr. Hubbell will see you again in a few months after the initial series of injections to decide if additional injections are needed. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effects. People with mild lipoatrophy (soft tissue volume loss) will require fewer treatments than those with severe lipoatrophy.

The RF energy stimulates the production of collagen, and over time you will see a reduction of wrinkles and smoother, younger looking skin. Treatments are repeated several times to achieve desired results. Treatments are typically completed in 30 minutes in a comfortable in-office environment with long-lasting results. Dr. Hubbell advises his patients that there is no discomfort and you will only feel a warm massage-like sensation. There is no downtime, and you can immediately return to normal activities.

Thermiva
Let's have a private conversation about ThermiVa.
We all know that aging inevitably takes a toll on our bodies, but for women, that can mean more than just crow's feet and fine lines around our eyes and mouth. Aging, combined with multiple vaginal or traumatic deliveries, can stretch and damage connective tissues causing vaginal laxity (looseness) along with a multitude of other issues, including stress incontinence and dryness as we enter our menopausal years. Although discussing this topic with your doctor may seem uncomfortable, it is an extremely common issue. You're Not Alone!
What is Thermiva®?
Unlike minimally effective kegels, controversial hormone therapy or invasive surgeries like Vaginoplasty, ThermiVa® uses the non-invasive, skin-tightening technology of ThermiAesthetics to effectively tighten labial and vaginal tissues without pain or downtime. This FDA-cleared treatment uses controlled radiofrequency energy to gently heat internal and external vaginal tissues to promote collagen rejuvenation in a comfortable, in-office session.
Causes of Vaginal Laxity
Vulvovaginal laxity, which refers to the laxity or looseness of both the vaginal introitus (opening) and the lips surrounding the vagina (labia majora and the labia minora), is commonly caused by vaginal delivery that stretches and damages the connective tissues of the vagina with laxity increasing with each successive birth. Advancing age can also cause atrophic vaginitis (inflammation due to thinning and shrinking of the tissues as well as decreased lubrication because of hormonal shifts) and is most commonly experienced during perimenopause, increasing in post-menopause, and often negatively affects a woman's sexual sensation and sensitivity.
How Does it Work?
Using the same radiofrequency energy used to tighten lax skin on the face, neck and abdomen, ThermiVa delivers controlled, precise energy to stimulate vaginal and labial tightening. Using a single-use, nonsurgical applicator designed to comfortably fit the labia and vagina, the technician slowly and safely heats the labial and vaginal tissues causing them to contract into a tight bundle, encouraging the production of new collagen. ThermiVa is performed comfortably in-office without anesthesia, pain or downtime. Click on the video animation to see what you can expect at your treatment.
Is Thermiva Right for Me?
Thermiva is designed to help relieve a variety of feminine issues which can cause discomfort and embarrassment such as
Stress Incontinence
ThermiVa can help tighten the tissues supporting the bladder to reduce the number of accidents and leakage caused by mild to moderate stress incontinence experienced with a cough, sneeze, laugh or exercise, as well as help to reduce mild urge symptoms.
Vaginal Laxity
ThermiVa can help to tighten the vaginal opening following vaginal delivery or trauma resulting in a more comfortable feeling.
Vulvar/Labial Laxity
ThermiVa can tighten labial tissues and reduce the amount of sagging tissue, resulting in softer, smoother skin and more comfort with certain types of clothing.
Atrophic Vaginitis
ThermiVa can improve skin texture and thickness as well as increase the amount of vaginal moisture present both internally and externally without the use of hormones.
Sexual Dysfunction
ThermiVa treatments may result in increased sensitivity and stronger muscular contractions, which can improve your sexual experience.
Thermiva FAQ
How do I get cleared for ThermiVa Treatment?
ThermiVa treatment plans are designed with your gynecologist's input, so we need his/her contact information in order to obtain basic screening information that typically has already been done by your doctor at your last visit. If no medical screening information is available, patients must complete a vaginal medical exam with the doctor of their choice so that we can obtain the proper screening information needed.
Why is a dermatologist's office performing this procedure?
For the external genital area, this is more of a skin issue than it is a gynecological or urological issue. We're using the same FDA-approved radiofrequency energy technology that we routinely use to tighten lax skin on the face and neck. Each ThermiVa treatment is performed by an experienced female obstetrics/surgical RN, under the direction of an on-site board certified physician, to ensure your safety and comfort.
How many treatments are typically needed?
It is recommended that patients receive at least three sessions at four to six week intervals for optimal results.
When will I notice the effects of the treatment?
Patients generally notice an improvement in texture and tightness of vaginal tissues immediately following their first treatment with additional effects over time.
How long do the ThermiVa treatment sessions take?
Depending on the patient and treatment areas, sessions usually take 30 minutes to complete.
How long do the effects of ThermiVa last?
ThermiVa corrections will generally last anywhere from nine to 12 months.
Will I need maintenance treatments?
We recommended one maintenance treatment per year following your initial three ThermiVa treatments.
Are the ThermiVa treatments painful?
The ThermiVa treatments are performed in-office with little to no discomfort. The heat temperature delivered to the vaginal tissue from the radiofrequency energy applicator is carefully monitored and controlled by the technician to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Do I need to do anything special before my ThermiVa treatment?
We ask that you shave or trim the treatment area prior to your scheduled appointment and will advise you of a few minor things to avoid before your treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
The treated skin may be slightly pink or red, swollen and warm to touch for about one hour following your treatment. There is a possibility of mild cramping which should resolve within 24 hours. Some patients may experience light vaginal bleeding or spotting immediately post procedure.
Is there anything special I need to do post-treatment?
No, ThermiVa treatments require no special after-care. Patients may resume all normal daily hygiene, physical and sexual activities unless otherwise instructed by the treating physician. To find out about our special introductory offer limited to the first 10 patients, call Kate at (337) 981-6065.
Ulthera
Ulthera® firms, tightens and lifts without surgery.
Ulthera is a safe, effective medical procedure which uses your body's own regenerative response to rejuvenate tired collagen and supplement it with fresh, new collagen, leaving you with a natural, beautiful, subtly-lifted appearance so your skin appears to "fit better" and leaves you looking great! Dr. Hubbell, a board-certified dermatologist and physician skin expert, will evaluate each prospective patient and recommend a customized treatment plan. Dr. Hubbell supervises, instructs and certifies appropriate ancillary staff utilizing the most advanced ultrasound energy-based tools and training in the latest techniques — all for your maximum results!
Ulthera® Strengthens and Regenerates Collagen
Over time the skin weakens causing fine lines and wrinkles on the top layers of the skin, which can be remedied through a variety of treatments including lasers, facial fillers and BOTOX. Simultaneously, a breakdown of collagen (which provides supporting structure to the skin) in the deeper layers results in stretching, sagging and a general shift downward. Ulthera actually helps your deep level tissue begin to reproduce collagen to tighten, firm and lift. Because Ulthera delivers the right amount of energy at the right level, it stimulates the body's healing and restorative properties with results typically seen after three months. It continues this collagen-building process with further improvements appearing up to six months following a procedure! The Ulthera System is the first and only energy-based device for aesthetics cleared by the FDA with a non-invasive, non-surgical LIFT indication with the ability to treat the full face and neck and décolleté. We can perform this incredible procedure in Lafayette, LA.

Ulthera FAQ
How does Ulthera® work?
As with other ultrasound procedures, a smooth applicator placed on your skin projects an image onto a screen that allows the technician to carry out Dr. Hubbell's plan of where the energy should be directed. The same applicator is then used to deliver low levels of focused energy at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, all the while leaving the surface of your skin undisturbed.
Why is Collagen important?
There is much talk about rebuilding collagen to improve our appearance. Collagen is the protein latticework that provides structure and strength to the skin and to the deep supportive connective tissue below the skin. As we age, the collagen in our body becomes prone to the effects of gravity and weakens causing fine lines and wrinkles on the top layers of the skin and sagging in the deeper layers.
Who is a good Candidate for Ulthera®?
Dr. Hubbell will evaluate each prospective patient and recommend a customized treatment plan. Generally, a good candidate for Ulthera® is someone with skin that has relaxed to the point of looking and feeling less firm than desired.
Is there any downtime?
You are able to return to your normal activities quickly, and there are no special measures you need to take other than keeping the treated area cool with ice the rest of the day. Your skin may appear a bit flushed or slightly swollen immediately after treatment, but any redness typically disappears in a matter of hours.
Is Ulthera® Safe?
In the past 24 years, Dr. Hubbell has successfully treated thousands of aesthetic patients. He supervises and certifies appropriate ancillary staff utilizing the most advanced ultrasound energy based tools and training in the latest techniques. As with any medical procedure, the safety and outcome are dependent upon the experience and the credentials of the physician providing the treatment. Ultrasound energy has been used in the field of medicine for more than 50 years, and clinical trials have demonstrated the safety of this latest application.
Can Ulthera® be used if a patient has had cosmetic injections or other cosmetic procedures?
Because the treatment affects the deep layers of tissue, it is complementary to (and compatible with) other cosmetic procedures addressing more superficial issues. It may also be used as the skin continues to age following surgery or to take plastic surgery results to a higher level.
How does Ulthera® compare to a facelift?
The age-defying facelift, which surgically removes excess tissue and lifts sagging skin in the lower part of the face, is one way to try to stem the tides of time. While facelifts have improved in recent years, surgery is by far the most expensive option, with the most risk and downtime. Other non-surgical procedures are typically needed to achieve natural and desirable results. The facelift procedure has fallen in popularity to the 20th most popular cosmetic procedure because of, and paving the way for, even more non-surgical alternatives for altering the aging face.
Vein Therapy
Dr. Hubbell performs a comprehensive evaluation of your skin type and condition to ensure you receive maximum safety and results!
Laser vein therapy can get the red out of spider veins.
For treatment of facial spider veins, leg veins, port wine stains and the redness of Rosacea, Hubbell Dermatology & Aesthetics offers Laser Vein Therapy. The laser emits a powerful beam of specialized light that passes through the skin and is preferentially absorbed by the unwanted blood vessels, causing them to disappear without harming surrounding tissue. We are a leading provider of vein treatment in Lafayette. We want to help you feel beautiful again. Call us and schedule a consultation.
Quick, Non-Invasive and Requires No Downtime
Depending on the area to be treated, a leg vein treatment can take as little as 30 minutes. Most people can resume their normal activity immediately following each treatment session. Temporary redness and sensation of warmth may be experienced, but generally resolves in a short period of time. Most people feel little to no discomfort during the treatment.
Customized Physician-Guided Treatment Plan
The first step in getting rid of spider veins is the proper diagnoses and evaluation. Dermatologists are trained experts in the proper diagnoses and care of skin issues compared to non physician practitioners and physicians of other specialties.

Dermaplaning
A simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis.
Dermaplaning is an exfoliation technique that removes the oldest dead skin cells on the skin's epidermis (outermost surface) to reveal the fresher, younger skin cells below. By shaving off the superficial epidermis, dermaplaning removes the buildup of dirt and oils in the outer follicles that becomes trapped by fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Removing the hair gives the patient healthier and glowing skin.
Facial Procedures
Increases the Effectiveness of Other Facial Procedures
Dr. Hubbell also suggests this treatment to prepare the face for medical procedures such as laser hair removal, dermal infusions (microdermabrasion), chemical peels and facials. By wiping away the dead skin, other treatments are able to penetrate deeper yielding better results.
Dermaplaning
increases the effectiveness of other facial treatments
allows a deeper penetration of skin care products
has few to no adverse effects
is quick and requires no downtime
Safe for Pregnant or Nursing Mothers

What areas can be treated?
Dermaplaning is primarily for the face.
Microdermabrasion
Enhanced Microdermabrasion with Infusion
Enhanced microdermabrasion with dermal infusion is an exfoliation technique that removes old skin cells, and then skin-benefitting solutions are applied. Because the skin is more permeable once the skin cells have been removed, the absorption of subsequent substances applied to the skin is greater. Common substances used in the infusion cocktail consist of vitamins and antioxidants.
Benefits of Microdermabrasion
For best results, treatments every two weeks will achieve a noticeable difference in your skin. To receive longevity of your results, Dr. Hubbell recommends a home skincare regimen that includes physician-grade skincare products because of their effectiveness, high quality and carefully compounded ingredients and because they typically contain concentrated medicinal substances not available in retail outlets. Dr. Hubbell has successfully helped thousands of acne patients over the past 24 years to eliminate acne and reduce scarring.
He thoughtfully continues to research and recommend the most effective pharmaceuticals and topicals for maximum results. When necessary, Acne Surgery (medical extractions) can be performed for the relief of comedones (a widened hair follicle filled with skin debris, bacteria, and oil).
Acne affects most teenagers to some extent but is not restricted to any age group.
The cause of acne is multi factorial and includes: genetics, hormones, excess oil production combined with plugged hair follicles and bacteria producing inflammation within the follicle.
Blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) can occur on almost any part of the body but is most common on the face, chest and back.
While not a life threatening condition, acne is upsetting and disfiguring and can leave mild to severe scarring. For mild scarring MicroNeedling can provide improvement and for more severe scarring Fractional Lasers Resurfacing Treatments, DOT Therapy C02 Laser Skin Resurfacing or Facial Fillers will provide a dramatic difference in skin appearance. Dr. Hubbell will evaluate each perspective patient and recommend a customized treatment plan that is safe, effective and achieves your desired results.
Acne - Treatment Options
The best plan is to prevent, correct and reduce the chances of scarring. Dr. Hubbell will design an acne treatment plan tailored to your skin needs. In addition to pharmaceuticals and topicals, there are product regimens and helpful medical spa treatments for maximum results, such as:
Daily proper cleaning with one of our physician grade washes twice per day to remove dead skin cells and excess oil.
Using a physician grade light-weight moisturizer that won't clog your pores to combat dryness from prescriptions.
Dermal Infusions (microdermabrasion) with extractions to gently reduce clogged pores
Remove blackheads, bacteria and reduce oil production, inflammation of acne and dry skin created from prescriptions.
PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) shuts down the sebaceous glands in the skin-a major part of the acne problem.
This is a very safe alternative to strong prescription treatments.
Chemical Peels can help to unclog those stubborn clogged pores.
Mineral-based cosmetics contain added ingredients like silica, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide, which both absorb oil and hide redness without irritating skin and causing pimples.
Dry Skin

Dry skin is very common.
It happens more often in the winter when cold air outside and heated air inside cause low humidity. Furnaces make skin even drier. The skin loses moisture and may crack and peel, or become irritated and inflamed.
Dry Skin - Recommendations
Moisturize at least daily.
Avoid products with alcohol. Apply just after a bath or shower, when your skin is still damp.

Hyperpigmentation
What is Hyperpigmentation?
What is Hyperpigmentation?

What are Common Hyperpigmentation Conditions?

Solar Lentigo
Solar lentigos are brown areas on the skin that appear only after intense short term sun exposure or ongoing cumulative sun exposure. (sun damage, age spots, "liver spots")

Ingrown Hairs
What Are Ingrown Hairs?
Ingrown hairs or Pseudofolliculitus barbae is an inflammatory reaction which can affect many areas of the body. Caucasian men may experience a minor form of this condition from shaving the neck area. Black men are especially prone to ingrown hairs on the face and the neck because hairs in this ethnic group are often stiff and curly. Ingrown hairs can also be a problem for individuals who wax their legs, bikini area, or areas of the face. Ingrown hairs are something that all people can suffer from, so make sure you see a professional skin clinic to learn more about treatment.
What Causes Ingrown Hairs?
Hair tips become trapped below the surface of the skin due to close shaving. The inflammatory reaction is a result of the skin tissue perceiving the hair tip as a foreign body. This reaction can lead to acne-like lesions and hyperpigmentation. In black men, this condition may also possibly cause criss-cross scars and keloiding (excessive scarring) of the skin. This condition can be painful and unsightly.

Topical and/or Oral Prescriptions
Shave with a single blade razor or electric razor
Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis pilaris is condition that develops because of a similar process that occurs with acne; mainly cells that clump together in terminal hair follicles. It may be found on the upper arms and sometimes on the thighs, cheeks, or scalp. It appears as sandpaper-like grainy bumps and, in some cases, as large impactions, becoming inflamed and tender. It is believed that keratosis pilaris is frequently accompanied by acne. Therefore, keratosis pilaris responds well to keratolytic agents, such as glycolic or salicylic acid, much in the same way as does acne. Dr. Hubbell has been treating patients with painful skin conditions like this for many years. Choose a board certified dermatologist to help with your Keratosis Pilaris.

What are Moles?
A skin mole is a spot on the skin occurring on any part of the body.
A skin mole can be small or large; usually round or oval in shape; and may be colored pink, brown, red or black. A skin mole may be flat or raised. Some will sprout a few hairs, which is normal. Many moles are not visible at birth but will darken as one ages. Hubbell Dermatology & Aesthetics can help you remove those unsightly moles easily and quickly. Let our board certified dermatologist help with your mole removal. We're located in the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana. Call 337-981-6065 for an appointment.
Moles
Skin moles should be checked regularly since they all can potentially become skin cancer.
Sudden changes to look for are bleeding, rapid growth and irregular size. These changes may signify development of cancer of the basal or squamous cells of the skin. Malignant basal cells are not likely to spread to other parts of the body. However, they can become exceptionally large and cause a great deal of scarring upon removal. Malignant squamous cells can metastasize quickly, spreading cancerous cells to other parts of the body.
The most innocent skin moles should be watched for changes.
Changes in a skin mole or multiple moles require immediate attention by a physician. A skin mole can be removed using several different methods.
Treatment of Worrisome Moles
Surgical Removal (scraping)
Hyfrecation (burning)
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease where the skin becomes itchy, red, thick and scaly.
It occurs most often on the scalp, knees, elbows and back. It can range from extremely mild to very severe, covering large areas of the body. It is not contagious, but does appear to run in families. Four to five million people in the United States are affected.
Psoriasis is thought to be caused by a reaction in the white cells of the blood that causes an inflammation in the skin.
The skin then sheds itself too quickly. There are many types of this disease depending on where on the body it occurs, and what type of scales form. Psoriasis can also occur on the nails where it manifests itself as crumbly or smudged nails, sometimes with pits in them.
Hubbell Dermatology & Aesthetics is proud to offer Narrowband UVB Phototherapy treatment, the latest, high-technology treatment for psoriasis.
Psoriasis - Treatment Option
Narrow-band UVB uses this specialized ultraviolet light to control psoriasis and is considered one of the most effective treatments for this condition.
Patients come to office and spend a specified time in our Narrow-band UVB phototherapy chamber where a specific dose of this healing light is prescribed. Results are cumulative over time.
Rosacea
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a long-term disease that affects the skin and sometimes the eyes.
Rosacea typically starts between ages 30 and 50 years but has been seen in adolescents and the elderly. Women are more likely to have rosacea, but it is more severe in men. Fair-skinned people are more susceptible to rosacea. If you're having trouble with rosacea, contact the skin experts at Hubbell Dermatology at 337-981-6065.
Founder & medical director Dr. Christopher Hubbell offers the latest in the treatment of Rosacea.
Several prescriptions are available both topically and orally that can reduce the number of pimples and control Rosacea, and can be used either alone or in combination, says Dr. Hubbell.
One of the most exciting treatments however is using a laser to treat this redness.
Lasers, such as the pulsed dye laser selectively targets the enlarged blood vessels and acts to clear the redness of Rosacea.
While Rosacea cannot be cured, it can be controlled.
Early treatment can lessen and get rid of symptoms, and help to stop the disease from progressing, says Hubbell. "The most important step is to see a dermatologist early on to begin a treatment regimen." Visit our Medical Spa and Dermatology office located in Lafayette, Louisiana (LA)
Important to Note: Rosacea is not acne but can be present with acne.
Rosacea is not just sensitive skin, it is a progressive, and difficult to treat disease and must be taken seriously. It can cause severe emotional distress due to the visible facial involvement.
What are the Symptoms of Rosacea?
Flushing (redness) of the face, on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin
There may be a burning sensation and slight swelling
Broken blood vessels under the skin that may enlarge
Bumps on the skin that may contain pus and become painful
Inflamed eyes or eyelids
Swollen nose
In men, the nose can be red, bumpy and enlarged.
Thicker skin on the forehead, chin, cheeks or other areas of the face
Treatment of Rosacea
Keeping a journal of when breakouts happen can give clues to aggravations to your skin
Use a sunscreen every day to protect against UVA and UVB rays.
Please ask our estheticians which sunscreen is best for your rosacea.
If your eyes are affected, clean your eyelids as directed by your doctor.
Sebaceous Cyst
A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac occurring just under the skin.
You may feel the bumps or lumps under your skin. Keratin is a protein that creates the sac of cells called sebaceous cysts which may have a "pasty" or "cheesy" appearance and a foul odor. Sebaceous cysts are caused by blocked sebaceous glands, swollen hair follicles, and/or excessive testosterone production.
Sebaceous Cyst - Treatment Options
Surgical excision of a sebaceous cyst is a simple procedure to completely remove the sac and its contents.
An infected cyst may require oral antibiotics or other treatment before excision.
Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.
More than 3.5 million skin cancers in over two million people are diagnosed annually. It is important to be screened annually by a skilled physician who can spot worrisome spots and moles. Let Dr. Hubbell, a board certified dermatologist, diagnose and offer treatment options for your skin cancer. Even if you're unsure if you have skin cancer, have our dermatology team in Lafayette, LA give it a look to make sure. If skin cancer goes undiagnosed, it can cause more trouble down the line.

Warts
What are Warts?
Warts are skin infections caused by viruses of the human papillomavirus (HPV) family.
They are usually found on the fingers, hands, and feet and are usually painless with the exception of the warts on the soles of the feet.
Different Types of Warts
Common warts
Usually found on fingers, hands, knees, and elbows, a common wart is a small, hard bump that's usually grayish-brown. It has a rough surface that may look like the head of a cauliflower, with black dots inside.
Flat warts
Also called juvenile warts- These are about the size of a pinhead, are smoother than other kinds of warts, and have flat tops.
Plantar warts
Found on the bottom of the foot, plantar warts can be very uncomfortable – like walking on a small stone.
Filiform warts
These have a finger-like shape, are usually flesh-colored, and often grow on or around the mouth, eyes, or nose.
Are Warts Contagious?
If you pick at a wart, the virus can spread to other parts of the body.
Also, a tiny cut or scratch can make any area of skin more vulnerable to the virus. It is unlikely that the virus would be spread to another person. (And, you can't get a wart from holding a frog or toad!)
Treatment of Warts
A viable reason to treat warts is to prevent them from spreading further. Various treatments are described below. Hubbell Dermatology and Aesthetics can perform many of these surgeries in Lafayette to remove any unsightly warts. Dr. Hubbell Recommends:
Using prescription medications to put on the wart
Burning the wart off (using a light electrical current)
Freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen (called cryosurgery)
Injecting the wart with Candida (Yeast) Injections
Avoid Rubbing, Scratching or Picking at the Wart, Which Can Cause Infection, or Cause the Virus to Spread to Another Part of the Body.

Professional grade skincare products are only available through an authorized dealer – and not these unauthorized online sites. Unless you are buying directly from the manufacturer of the product (and not all of them offer the products directly), you are getting an unauthorized version of the product, which is illegal for the seller. This means that you may not be getting the real product or you are getting an expired product. You also don't know how this product has been handled or if it's been sitting in a trunk or warehouse in the sun. Be very wary about purchasing products online from an unauthorized seller at a discounted cost. It may seem as if you are saving money but you may not getting the product worth what you are paying.
