Harold's /hair ulds/ n. Short for Harold's Chicken Shack, the fried chicken king of the south surburbs. There are now 65 individually numbered shacks here and in far-flung places including Champaign, Bloomingdale and Wicker Park. Founded at 47th and Greenwood in 1950 by the late Harolds Pierce, who explained:" When I was a child, a preacher came to our house and ate all our chicken. I told my mother then that when I got to be a big boy i was going to open a chicken restaurant." Percy and Carolyn Billings opened their first Harold's Chicken Shack in 1984 at 7310 S Halsted opened the second location 100 West 87th Street in 1992 The Billings opened their third location in down town Chicago at 2109 S. Wabash a few years later.
