About Us
Before Alaska, there was Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, all of which has influenced the home-style cooking you'll find at Harley's Old Thyme Cafe. Harley always says he was born in a restaurant but that's not quite true. His family.... parents, uncles, aunts and the like, were all involved in the food industry back in a small town in southern Oklahoma. Harley began working in his Uncle Paul's restaurant at the age of 12 and owned his own restaurant by the age of 23. He traveled the South with Ramada Inns, picking up recipes and techniques as he went. He came to Alaska in 1978 on a spur of the minute decision to hitch a ride with friends in a Twin Otter and has never looked back. He met and married Margaret in 1981. And then came daughter Nessa and together they have worked to make that little cafe on Old Seward Highway
