In the early 1980's I found myself living in England, and had the good fortune to begin my brewing education at a 200-year-old brewery - Gale's Ales, in Horndean. After returning to the great Northwest I continued to hone my brewing skills. Confident that my beer could find a market, I opened my first brewery in Colville, Washington, on July 4, 1983. In the 30+ years since that inaugural brew Hale's Ales has built breweries in Kirkland, Spokane, and here in Seattle. Throughout that time is that we have continued to be owned and operated as an independent brewery, longer than any other in the Pacific NW. As a pioneer in the industry we were the first to introduce Seasonals, Cask Conditioned Ales, and Nitrogen Conditioned Ales to the NW. Our goal has always been to stay true to what the craft brewing "revolution" has been about: producing and serving fresh, locally brewed ales of the very finest quality. I've always felt that the best beers are found at the “pubs closest to the brewery” – because they’re the freshest! We strive to be conscientious about our environment in any ways we can. We use solar panels to heat all of our water. In our Pub we source the best local foods we can find: freshly baked, organic local breads, Northwest Grass Fed Natural Beef, Free Range, antibiotic and hormone-free Chicken, organic salad greens, and offer many gluten free and vegetarian options. It is important to us to support our local economy and "do the right thing." I hope you will enjoy your visit and return for many more. CHEERS! Mike Hale
