From the Brewery
Lunch pint with your meal weekdays until 2pm. 3.50 each.
A good starter beer for those that have only drank the mass produced suds. The blonde is a light, crisp beer with a slight malt flavor and just enough Czechoslovakian Saaz hops to balance the malt sweetness.
Ben's India Pale Ale
Brewed just like the original from Burton upon Trent. This style calls for a high hop rate combined with an elevated alcohol content because it was brewed to survive the journey from England to Bombay as rations for British troops. Huge amounts of two row pale malt with an addition of a few specialty malts provide a nice mouth feel buried under copious additions of Columbus hops. This beer is big but finishes clean.
Taylor Jayne's Raspberry Ale
Named after the brewer's first daughter in 1992, this is a light beer with a fruit twist. A beautiful aroma greets you followed by a mildy sweet raspberry flavor which leaves a very clean finish. This beer is designed for those who really don't like real beer. It was originally only going to be brewed for her birth, but people have demanded it ever since, so it is always on tap.
Trolley Stop Oatmeal Stout
It's a gigantic ale with two row, chocolate, Munich, special roast, black barely and crystal malts topped off with more than 100 pounds of oatmeal for a creamy smooth dark beer experience. Hopped just enough to balance the sweetness of the malt. We call this the breakfast beer for champions.
Red Cat Amber
The first beer ever brewed here is made with 2 row pale malt, both 40 lovebond and 80 lovebond crystal malts for a rounded smoothness and a touch of chocolate malt for added complexity. Moderately hopped with a Pacific Northwest Cascades.
Named after the first son of the brewer back in 1993, it was awarded the gold medal for Best Porter in America in 1998 at the Great American Beer Festival. If you like dark, rich, and very complex beers, go no further than this offering.
Brewed with 40 percent wheat and speical yeast gives the German classic subtle tones of banana and clove. Brewed traditionally during the summer months, it is unfiltered so its full of vitamin B from the yeast and served with a lemon wedge just like in the Deutschland.
Copperhead Pale Ale
This American Pale ale has a great, slightly sweet malt character balanced by a great hop character. Its beautiful copper color inspired it name. It is a medium to full-bodied. Bitterness is medium flavor and aroma hopping. Finish is dry and clean. A great beer for "Hop Heads".
Nut Brown (Seasonal)
Brewed annually for Wildcat basketball. Traditional English double strong ale that boasts a huge full-bodied malt flavor and mellows with age.

Gentle Ben’s has been on this block since 1971 and has been brewing award winning brews since 1991. The original house was located under what is now the lobby of the Marriott Hotel. Built in 1908 as a private residence for the Hamilton family, over the years it served as the University president’s house, a boarding house and home to several fraternities. The name Gentle Ben’s was chosen through a contest and the winner was a University professor who thought the manager looked like Dan Haggerty from the T.V. show Grizzly Adams whose co-star was a bear named Gentle Ben. That show was based on a man who roamed parts of Northern California in the 1920s and 30s. He had two bears, Benjamin Franklin and Martha Washington. Martha was a mean bear by people standards and had to be kept chained to a stake. The other was gentle and was free to roam, hence Gentle Ben.Gentle Ben’s Brewing Company of Tucson
Brewing began in 1991 when I bought the business and installed what, at the time, was the only brewery in Tucson. We started with three beers; Tucson Blonde, Red Cat Amber and Copperhead Pale Ale, all still brewed today and joined by five other styles. In 1994 the Marshall Foundation who owns most of the real estate in the neighborhood including the old Ben’s, informed me of plans to raze the block and offered us a chance to rebuild.
At the time, the location was The U of A Center for Architectural Landscaping. We were allowed much input on the building design and decided to save the foundation and triple red brick walls of the one story building. The structure was originally built as a bank in 1970. Much of the wood and brick salvaged from the original Bens and the bank were used in the new construction. The old vault and its two foot thick concrete ceiling is still intact, holding up the 30,000 pounds of beer in the upstairs cold box and serving as the office and employee room. We tripled the size of the original kitchen and our brewing capacity as well so we can offer kegs to the other bars and restaurants in the state. Ben’s history would not be complete without a nod to the thousands of people who have worked under the Bear and the millions of patrons over the years who have made the future possible. "
