There's always something new at Foxglove Antiques did you know that we receive at least a few new items every week?
Our dealers are constantly adding and changing inventory. If you don't find exactly what you want in the shop, we'll be happy to contact every dealer to see if that item is available at another location.
Foxglove Antiques & Galleries remains on Atlanta Magazine's 'Best of' list!
It is quite an honor to have been named to this prestigious register. We are excited and thankful for this recognition from Atlanta Magazine and our loyal clients who voted for us. In the Home & Garden section, the magazine reads: Reason to visit Miami Circle: Foxglove Antiques & Galleries: Every time Foxglove expands, it gets better. More than a dozen of Atlanta's finest dealers now fill the 12,000-square-foot showroom, offering authentic French and English treasures. This is the place to find a cool sunburst mirror, a rustic pine hutch, a unique iron lantern, or an elegant mahogany chest without having to wade through the sea of clichéd reproductions that plague so many antique malls.
How to Select Your Designer
Some of our most trusted clients at Foxglove Antiques come from the interior design industry. Hiring a professional interior designer is often a wise decision for homeowners looking to tackle a new project, whether you’re looking to reupholster an antique banquette or to invest in several big-ticket items for a new addition. But there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind:
Qualifications
As you begin to look for professionals in your area, it’s important to know whether they are an interior designer or merely a decorator? This is an important distinction; while designers are professionally trained, accredited by an institution, and registered with the state, decorators have no formal training and may not be qualified to take on projects that meet building codes, for example. Check to see if the professional is a member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and/or IFDA (International Furnishings and Design Association), which indicates a dedication to high professional standards and a commitment to continuing education. In fact, both of those Web sites, in addition to International Interior Design Association, are great resources for your search.
Questions to Ask
Before making any decisions, we suggest bringing up the following: “Will they charge an hourly fee or work on a retainer. How long they have been working in the field. What stores do they tend to work with if they are not located within a furniture or design store? Furniture comes in a wide variety of prices ranges and it’s very important that your designer works with manufacturers within your price range. Ask to talk to past clients. If they were satisfied, they should be more than willing to speak with you.
What to know before you hire “the one”
Your biggest mistake, according to Real Simple: “Going for the prestige of the name without seeing her previous work. Make sure that the quotes for furnishings include taxes and delivery charges.” Know that mark-ups are standard, and can range from 15 to 30 percent. The magazine also recommends sifting through magazines and books, and tagging rooms and items you like. Also, never underestimate the recommendations of your friends, neighbors, or even owners and managers at your favorite antiques, furniture, or design stores. At Foxglove, we would be happy to pass along our own recommendations.

She takes great pleasure in getting to know each client, and her work is a faithful yet fresh reflection of the client’s personality and design preferences. Designer Profile: John Oetgen
John Oetgen once told House Beautiful in an interview that he gains inspiration from the landscape surrounding him wherever he is – St. Barts, architecture by Renzo Piano as well as Charles LeBrun and the randomness of nature, to name a few. Oetgen attended Georgia State University right here in Atlanta, GA where he obtained a Bachelor of Visual Arts with a major in Interior Design. He carved his way into the interior design world in 1977 with the creation of his firm Oetgen Design. He has been featured in many shelter magazines such as House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Better Homes & Gardens, Veranda and our local favorite Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, where his Buckhead home was featured. His work has also graced the pages of other lifestyle magazines, interior design books, and influential designer lists year after year. Examples of his work can be found throughout the country in residential homes as well as commercial spaces.
Designer Profile: Robert Brown
Robert Brown didn’t set out to become a famous interior designer, but a journalist. Brown graduated from The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. After graduation Brown worked as a buyer at the fashion firm of Hart, Schaffner and Marx. For a while interior design was only a hobby that he would dabble in during his free time. It wasn’t until after Brown worked in the corporate world as an executive for eighteen years that he began his almost instantly successful interior design career. In an interview by Marcia Sherrill with 1stdibs, Brown described his design philosophy in part as melding the formal charm of the south with global design themes influenced by his clients’ travels. His favorite fashion designers like Balenciaga, Chanel amd Ungaro definitely influence his interior design work.
Designer Profile: Tammy Connor
Tammy Connor recently described her style as timeless, classic, inviting, refined and collected in an interview on the blog All the Best, which is probably why the one person she wishes she could meet in a fantasy world is Jackie O. She went on to obtain a graduate degree in Interior Design from The American College of Applied Arts here in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduation she took an apprenticeship with Gandy/Peace Inc.
