It all began when Jose and Patricia Murguia started selling tacos and tortas for extra money from the store they owned on Grand Street. From there, they added a front porch, opened the restaurant, and aptly named it El Tejavan, which happens to be Spanish for front porch! Ever since, the Murguias’ and their extended family have been preparing homemade family recipes indigenous to their native city of Guadalajara to local patrons and those passing through – all of whom have an appreciation for authenticity.
