Who dances in Beginning Classes?
This level is for people who have just started their dance education, or for experienced dancers seeking to brush up their technical knowledge in a refresher course. In a beginning class, emphasis is placed on learning the basic step patterns at the bronze level syllabus that will enable you to move around the floor in a social setting. Our beginning classes are one hour in length and cost $12 per person, no partner required.
In the Intermediate Classes, you will continue to learn step patterns, in the bronze and silver level syllabi.
In addition, you will learn technique including posture, balance, and footwork. Intermediate classes are for students who wish to build upon the training they received in the Beginning level, or for students with a dance background who feel comfortable in a faster paced class, or for experienced dancers seeking to brush up their technical knowledge in a refresher class. Our intermediate classes are one hour in length and cost $12 per person, no partner required.
The Advanced Class goes beyond step patterns by teaching a series of short routines that focus on leading/following, partnership, developing better body flight and body rhythm.
Emphasis is placed on styling and technique. Students in the Advanced Class will learn syllabus (silver and gold) and non-syllabus (open) level moves. These classes are for more experienced dancers who have a firm grasp of the dance basics. Our advanced classes are 1 hour in length and cost $12 per person, no partner required.
The Workshop Class is constructed so that dancers of all abilities can learn something new. (more information coming)
Private
Private Lessons at DanceSport International
In a private lesson, you will have one-on-one instruction with the professional of your choice.
Private lessons are distinguishable from group classes in that they are almost entirely focused on technique, rather than on step pattern. At DanceSport International, most private lessons are $90 for 55 minutes of instruction, unless otherwise stated.
Our one time special for beginners to experience the range of dances that are taught is a package of three 45 minute sessions for a total of $180.
Visiting Coaches
At DanceSport, we pride ourselves on being able to provide world class coaching from some of the biggest names in the dance world.
We fly in top level dance professionals to provide serious training for the serious dance competitor. These coaches share some of the most progressive techniques and styles available today, and share the latest insights on what it takes to win on the competitive floor.
When we bring in a visiting professional instructor, we usually pre-book private lessons, then schedule several coaching seminars that are open to all.
These seminars examine short routines or figures from a different perspective; explaining how slight nuances can change the entire tone of the step. These seminars are similar to our studio workshops, but taught at a higher level. We recommend that dancers achieve at least an intermediate status before attending a seminar.
