What Is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein toxin, which is cosmetically used to help soften fine lines and wrinkles in the face. It is derived from the Botulism toxin and manufactured in very minute amounts for cosmetic purposes. Since April of 2002, when it gained FDA approval, Botox has fast become recognized for the many benefits it offers its users. This therapeutic muscle relaxing agent is now recognized as a safe and effective way to treat wrinkles with no long term effects.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox, a neurotoxin, is injected into a muscle which blocks the nerve impulse that prevents contraction of the muscle. The muscle weakens, and eventually the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.
How Safe Is Botox?
Botox has been used safely in ophthalmology for over 10 years and for wrinkle therapy for over six years. Any possible side effects are temporary.
What Are Possible Side Effects?
Some possible side affects are mild bruising and drooping. A bruise would last a few days and a droop can last one to two weeks. These side effects are not common and are temporary.
What Causes Wrinkles?
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles very time you smile, laugh, or frown. The more emotion you show the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. Left untreated these lines may become permanent.
What Can Be Done About Wrinkles?
Now frown lines, crows feet, and forehead lines can be dramatically softened or eliminated. This procedure, known as a cosmetic denervation, uses Botox injections to improve the appearance of worry lines, frown lines, laugh lines, crows feet and other dynamic wrinkles.
Information About Botox Treatment For Hyperhidrosis
Botox is FDA-approved for excessive underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis) which cannot be treated effectively with topical agents such as prescription anti-perspirants. Botox treatment helps control excessive underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from nerves which stimulate the sweat glands to secrete sweat. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, sweating stops. Botox treatment for Hyperhidrosis is very effective and normally lasts 4-6 months.
Information About Botox Treatment For Migraines
Chronic Migraine is more than just frequent migraines. A migraine is a type of headache that may begin as a dull ache and then turn into a constant, throbbing pain, often felt on one side of the head. Botox is the first and only preventive treatment approved by the FDA for adults with Chronic Migraine (15 or more headache days a month, each lasting 4 hours or more). If you suffer from chronic migraines, Botox may be able to help. Call or email us today to schedule an appointment.

Dysport
Prescription Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age. Dysport is a purified formulation that has been shown to deliver temporary improvements in moderate to severe frown lines, even with repeat treatments. So, the effect of repeat treatment with Dysport may be comparable to your first use. In clinical trials, the efficacy of Dysport was studied in a total of 376 patients and was demonstrated with up to 4 repeated treatments. The safety of Dysport has been studied in up to 12 repeated treatments.
How does Dysport work?
Dysport stops the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines. The untreated facial muscles still contract normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas. You should not be treated with Dysport more frequently than every 90 days.
Is Dysport New?
No! Dysport has been available in Europe, Asia, and South America for over 10 years. Dysport is manufactured by Ipsen Pharmaceuticals (FRA) and is supported by over a decade of clinical experience. Dysport is distributed in the United States by Medicis, the manufacturers of the revolutionary Restylane dermal filler. Dysport was developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1990's to successfully treat a number of neurological and opthamalic conditions. It was further developed to treat a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders, for which it is licensed in over 60 countries. Since that time, with an increased understanding of the uses of Dysport, thousands of treatments have been safely and effectively performed for a variety of conditions ranging from facial wrinkles to axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating under the armpits).
Is Dysport Safe?
Dysport injections have been used safely and effectively for over fifteen years to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders. Numerous safety studies performed in around the world have shown it to have an equal or more favorable safety profile than Botox. However, while rare some side effects can and occur. The most common side effects are temporary soreness or mild bruising around the injection site. Some people may experience a slight headache that lasts for several hours after treatment; it is safe to take a mild pain killer to relieve this. In a very small percentage of cases there can be a complication called "ptosis" (a drooping eyelid) which may last a few days or up to 4 weeks. Ptosis is not considered to be a normal side effect and is normally due to injector error or lack of injector experience.
Is Dysport better than Botox?
This topic is widely debated and heavily biased due to most comparative cosmetic studies being partially of fully funded by manufacturers of Botox (Allergan) and Dysport (Ipsen/Medicis). Many cosmetic physicians outside the U.S. who have used Dysport report greater longevity when compared to Botox. In most unbiased neurological studies for the treatment of movement disorders, Dysport has provided equal or greater efficacy when used in a 2.5 to 4:1 ratio to Botox. In a double-blinded randomized crossover study in cervical dystonia (the most common use of neurotoxin in the world), results showed Dysport to be more effective than Botox with a similar safety and side effect profile when used in a 3:1 dose relationship.
Why is Injector Selection More Important Than Ever?
Studies indicate that Dysport possibly disperses more widely than Botox Cosmetic when injected. While this is advantageous when treating broader areas of small wrinkles such as crows feet, when used to treat glabellar lines of the forehead it could lead to increased occurrence of ptosis (drooping eyelid) if injected by someone inexperienced with Dysport.
Restylane
Cosmetic Skin Institute offers Restylane (which was FDA-approved in December 2003) administration that helps enhance the fullness of lips and nasolabial folds (laugh lines). Other areas of the face include frown lines between the eyes and forehead lines. Where Botox does not diminish deep furrow lines, fillers can be added in conjunction with Botox in order to achieve the desired result. During consultation a through evaluation will be given in order to assess which treatment best fits your needs. In 1996, Swedish biotechnology company Q-Med created a genetically engineered version of hyaluronic acid (Restylane and Perlane). Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide, or natural sugar, that is found largely in the skin. Its primary function is to provide volume and pliability to the skin. The unique characteristic of hyaluronic acid is its ability to bind with water up to 1000 times its volume. This property makes it ideal as a filler agent, for even while hyaluronic acid filler is being naturally degraded it continues to attract more water to it. This characteristic allows it to hold its shape even longer.
What Is Restylane?
Restylane is classified as a cosmetic filler. Restylane is probably the most exciting non-surgical advancement in facial rejuvenation today. While there are numerous injectable fillers on the market today, many of them have their drawbacks ranging from allergic reactions to short life spans. Restylane is considered safe and natural.
What Are the Different Types of Restylane?
Restylane - is intended for wrinkle correction and lip enhancements. Restylane Silk - is used for subtle lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles and lines around the mouth. Restylane Lyft - provides fullness to cheeks and adds volume to correct and smooth smile lines (nasolabial folds).
Restylane Applications
Wrinkle correction. Lip augmentation. Correcting nasolabial and other folds.
Restylane Benefits
No skin test is necessary. Allergic reactions are almost non-existent. Lasts up to 60% longer than collagen fillers. Clinical trials show that Restylane is effective for up to six months after lip augmentation.
Juvederm
Why Choose Juvéderm?
As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form. But, with Juvéderm injectable gel, you don't have to just sit back and let it happen! Juvéderm is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid-a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Juvéderm injectable gel is eased in under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds-the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm provides a smooth, natural look and feel-so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! In fact, studies show superior results of Juvéderm compared to a collagen-based dermal filler. - Almost 90% of all study volunteers who were treated with both Juvéderm injectable gel and another dermal filler preferred Juvéderm! - Juvéderm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.
Immediate Results
With Juvéderm the injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. Plus, there's minimal recovery or downtime. So you can step into your doctor's office for treatment and step right back into your life. Juvéderm is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds). The other dermal filler used in this study was ZYPLAST dermal filler (bovine-based collagen).
How Juvéderm Works
Juvéderm injectable gel dermal filler is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatment. Juvéderm is eased in under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis-the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis-to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm injectable gel is great for your "laugh lines," "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds), or "marionette lines" (oral commissures). Juvéderm is a "next-generation" filler. It is made from hyaluronic acid-a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to hydrate and add volume. Hyaluronic acid may diminish with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to smooth wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm has a unique manufacturing process that provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin during the injection process and provides a smooth, natural look and feel-so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! Only Juvéderm is so smooth-other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels.
What to Expect During Treatment
Because Juvéderm injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment to stop by our office for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice-and get right back to your life.
Before you go
We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. When you arrive-if this is your first visit-we will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about wrinkle treatment with Juvéderm. Juvéderm injectable gel does not require an allergy test.
Determining your treatment needs
We will examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment. Juvéderm injectable gel is available in two formulations-Juvéderm Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, and Juvéderm Ultra Plus, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. This allows us to better tailor treatment to your unique needs. We will also take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment!
Restylane Lyft
What Is Restylane Lyft?
As we age and our faces lose volume, some of us begin to look for ways to regain more structure to our cheeks without surgery. Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L, is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to correct volume loss and treat wrinkles in the face. Restylane Lyft is the first and only FDA-approved filler indicated to provide fullness to cheeks and add volume to correct and smooth smile lines (nasolabial folds).
How Does Restylane Lyft Workt?
Over time, the natural fat surrounding the cheeks begins to deteriorate, resulting in a reduction of volume, sagging skin and more prominent wrinkles. Through nonsurgical injections, Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to add fullness to the cheeks and midface area, which can result in a natural-looking appearance.
Restylane Family
Restylane Lyft is just one member of the full Restylane family of products. Each one of our safe and effective aesthetic treatments is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid. They are specifically formulated to act like your body's own naturally produced hyaluronic acid in patients 21 years of age and older.
Restylane Silk
Restylane Silk has recently been approved for release in the United States! It's the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for subtle lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles and lines around the mouth in patients over 21 years of age.
How Does Restylane Silk Work?
Just like the other members of the Restylane family, Restylane Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid - a sugar that is naturally present in your skin.
What Makes Restylane Silk Different from Other Restylane Products?
Like other areas of the face, the lips and skin surrounding the mouth show signs of aging as an individual gets older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these areas. That's why it's made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products. In a clinical study of patients treated with Restylane Silk or no treatment, clinical investigators reported: 77% of patients treated with Restylane Silk showed at least a one-point improvement in lip fullness (measured on on a 5-point scale) eight weeks after treatment. 59% of patients treated with Restylane Silk maintained lip fullness six months after treatment Restylane Silk's unique particle gel formula, along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, helps give you softer, more precise results - just what you need for a natural-looking smile.
See What Others Are Saying
In the same clinical study, patients treated with Restylane Silk reported fast-acting, long-lasting results: 98% of patients reported a visible improvement in lip fullness 14 days after injection 76% of patients still had lip improvement six months following injection.

Fraxel
What is Fraxel?
Fraxel is the original fractional laser treatment that works below the skin's surface from the top down, addressing imperfections like fine lines, visible photo aging, wrinkles, scarring, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Fraxel light energy stimulates your skin's natural collagen, rejuvenating skin cells below the surface to help smooth the creases and pockets that cause wrinkles and scars. Fraxel treats targeted problem areas - so the results are focused and effective. The skin tone appears more even, and the texture of your skin will have a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
Are Fraxel Treatments Painful?
Fraxel treatments are mildly to moderately uncomfortable. A topical or local anesthetic in addition to using a cold air blower simultaneously with the laser, can lessen the discomfort dramatically.
How Many Fraxel Treatments Are Required?
Each treatment plan is specific per patient, but most people see the best results with 3-5 treatments. Each treatment is typically scheduled 3 to 4 weeks apart.
What Can I Expect After a Fraxel Treatment?
Patients will likely experience redness, swelling, and possible peeling post treatment. Redness can typically last 1-2 weeks and can be covered with makeup. Swelling is usually 1-3 days. Most Fraxel patients report the sensation of a "light sunburn" immediately after treatment. Patients usually drive to and from their own Fraxel appointments.

IPL (Intense Pulse Light)
What are Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial Treatments?
The Cosmetic Skin Institute offers Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial treatments to improve the appearance of redness & flushing, acne rosacea, irregular pigmentation, and fine facial lines. As we age fine facial blood vessels and irregular areas of hyperpigmentation often appear on facial and non-facial skin exposed to sunlight. IPL treatments are non-invasive and can help your skin on your face, neck, chest, arms and legs look rejuvenated and it will bring back that healthy glow. Your skin will look younger and refreshed after a couple of treatments.
Are IPL Treatment's Painful?
Patients may feel slight stinging, commonly likened to the snapping of a small rubber band on the skin. We offer a topical numbing cream to alleviate the minimal pain of the treatment. The numbing cream is normally applied 30 to 60 minutes before the treatment.
How Will I Look After Each Treatment?
Patients may experience redness up to a few days and darkening of the brown spots for about a week after the treatment. It is important to remember to allow any spots or dry skin to fall off on its own and not pick at any area. It is also important to avoid direct sun and wear sunblock during the day. If desired, you may apply make-up immediately after the treatment.
How Many Treatments Are Required?
Typically, 1 to 5 treatments are recommended every three to four weeks. Once a patient is evaluated by one of our medical professionals, they will have a better idea of how many treatments are necessary.
Laser Hair Removal
LightSheer Diode is clinically documented and proven to deliver results, and effectively treats the broadest patient population. With thousands of units in the field, LightSheer has become the most popular photoepilation system in the world and the best solution for expanding today's aesthetic practice.
What is the Laser Hair Removal process?
Laser Hair Removal gently removes unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. The LightSheer Diode treats more than one hair at a time, making it possible to treat larger areas such as back, shoulders, arms, legs and face. Prior to treatment, the hairs will be shaved. We typically recommend applying a topical numbing cream 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to your appointment. The topical numbing cream reduces the minor discomfort associated with the Laser Hair Removal process. Treatment times vary from as little as 15 minutes for areas such as the chin and neck, to a few hours for extensive areas such as the legs, back and chest.
What are the benefits of Laser Hair Removal?
Larger areas may be treated using lasers as opposed to electrolysis, waxing or tweezing. Laser Hair Removal is effective on almost any area of the body where smoother, younger, hair-free skin is desired. The LightSheer Diode ET is the first system to provide permanent hair reduction using state-of-the-art, high-power diode technology.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area you wish to have treated, the hair density and your hair's growth cycle. Your hair grows in cycles and many factors influence its growth. Age, ethnicity, weight hormones, deit, medication and metabolism all play a part in your hair's location, thickness and resilience. Are you tired of shaving, waxing and suffering from those annoying bumps and cuts? There is a safe and effective alternative to hair removal. It is an IPL hair removal system that offers permanent hair reduction. Cosmetic Skin Institute offers IPL hair removal utilizing one of the most effective hair removal equipment available on the market, the Starlux by Palomar Medical Technologies.
What is Intense Pulsed Light Hair Removal and how does it work?
The IPL Hair Removal system involves selective photothermolysis. In other words, the IPL Hair Removal is directed specifically for hair in that it selectively targets the melanin (color) of the hair and the texture. In this process, it ultimately destroys the hair follicle. The energy emitted through the IPL system is delivered to the area and the hair follicles are destroyed.
How does it feel?
Everyone has a different reaction to what is perceived as discomfort or pain. However, most patients describe treatments as a warm to hot sensation on the skin or a tolerable sting similar to that of waxing. For sensitive clients, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the skin 45 minutes to an hour prior to the treatment.
How long will the treatment take?
In terms of a single treatment, depending on the area to be treated, the chin and upper lip may take five minutes and both legs could take an hour and a half. To achieve permanent hair reduction, an average of three to five treatments may be necessary depending on skin type and body area. The frequency between treatments is about six to eight weeks.
What side effects can be seen and is there anything I should avoid?
Side effects are very minimal; however, temporary side effects may result in redness and a hive-like appearance with some crusting or scabbing where the hair may be singed or destroyed. Scabbing may last about three to five days and an antibiotic ointment should be applied to the area twice a day until complete healing is achieved. You should avoid tanning or waxing the treatment areas. Tanned skin makes it difficult for the equipment to pick up the pigment in the hair and could also cause lightening of the skin. Waxing should be avoided because the hair follicle must be present in order for the equipment to detect the hair.
What kind of skin types and hair colors can be treated?
The IPL Hair Removal system is effective on all skin types and hair color except white hair, grey hair, and blonde fuzz. Most systems target the pigment inside the hair. No pigment - no results.
How much do the IPL Hair Removal treatments cost?
The cost varies due to the size of the area treated and the number of treatments necessary. Generally, you can expect to receive four to five treatments, but you can stop treatments when you are satisfied with your results. Treatment costs are very reasonable and will vary from client to client. The exact cost per treatment will be discussed during consultation.
Laser Tattoo Removal
How Does it Work?
The only safe way to permanently fade and remove unwanted tattoo ink is to use a special kind of laser called the Q-Switch Yag laser. This laser procedure is a beam of light that is applied to the skin and absorbs tattoo pigments. The Q-Switch Yag targets tattoo ink while doing minimal damage to the surrounding skin. The Q-Switch MEDLITE C6 is the most advanced laser technology to remove tattoos safely and effectively.
Are Treatments Painful?
The area that is being treated will be numbed with xylocaine so most patients feel little to no pain. There are normal side effects after a tattoo laser removal treatment such as redness, blistering and crusting. This usually lasts for about 1 week.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments is dependent on various factors such as the amount of ink that was used for the tattoo, the age of the tattoo, and the colors that were used for the tattoo. Generally, most tattoos require 4-6 treatments. Fading is noted each time a treatment is performed. Treatment intervals are usually 6-8 weeks apart. Immediately after the laser treatment, it is important not to pick at the area and patients are instructed to avoid direct sunlight while the area is healing.
Want More Information?
Call our office today to schedule a consultation and find out if Tattoo Removal is a good treatment for you. Our expert providers, who have over 15 years of experience, will be able to answer your questions.
Sclerotherapy
What Is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy was developed in the 1920s for the treatment of spider veins (telangiectasia), small purple and red blood vessels. Spider veins are hereditary, and while most commonly found on the thigh or lower leg, can form virtually anywhere on the leg, from the upper most region of the thigh to the ankle. Occasionally, spider veins will appear on the face. Sclerotherapy has proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
How Is Sclerotherapy Performed?
Larger veins are usually treated first. A scalloping solution is injected into the vein with a micro-needle. The solution causes the vein to turn white (blanch) and then gradually disappear. A typical treatment lasts 30 minutes to an hour depending on the severity.
Benefits
No Downtime. You can immediately resume work and all normal activities, though vigorous activity should be avoided for 24 hours. Little if any discomfort. A safe, time-proven procedure.
Other Considerations:
Complete correction is not expected on the first treatment. Only about 50% - 70% of the treated vessels will be permanently gone. Three to four sessions are generally required, spaced out six weeks apart for optimal results. Patients may be asked initially to wear heavy duty stockings to help keep treated veins closed and reduce bruising. It is recommended to have treatments done during colder months as the appearance of the veins will look worse before they get better. On occasion, small clots can develop at the site of the injection. Color changes can occur in the skin where the Sclerotherapy has been performed. If there is an underlying problem with the venous system, the veins will recur.

What does JUVÉDERM VOLUMA do?

What is BELOTERO BALANCE?
BELOTERO BALANCE Dermal Filler is an injectable hyaluronic acid filler that quickly integrates into your skin. Once injected, it instantly smooths the lines and wrinkles in your face.
What's the difference between BELOTERO BALANCE and other dermal fillers?

How soon can I expect results?

How long does it last?
Individual results may vary, but BELOTERO BALANCE Dermal Filler may last about 6 months or more.

How long is the recovery time?
There is very little to no downtime associated with a BELOTERO BALANCE Dermal Filler procedure. In fact, most patients return to their normal daily activities right after their visit. Radiesse
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, and is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure. RADIESSE dermal filler is the ideal choice for total facial contouring. It can restore a healthy, youthful appearance, enhance your existing features, help you defy age and gravity, and increase your confidence - all without invasive surgery or scarring.
Radiesse Dermal Filler Is Naturally Superior
RADIESSE dermal filler works with your own body in a remarkable way. Upon injection, it immediately adds volume to safely contour, correct, and beautify facial features. And unlike other fillers, RADIESSE dermal filler continues to work over time. With its patented microsphere technology, it starts a process called collagenesis, stimulating your body to produce new collagen and encouraging collagen to grow around the injection area. RADIESSE dermal filler actually helps your body create its own naturally younger look, setting a new standard in facial contouring and augmentation.
Immediate and long-lasting
Treatment with RADIESSE dermal filler is so simple and convenient, it can be performed during a lunch hour. You'll see the results right away - and these results may last up to a year or more for many patients. The long-lasting effects of RADIESSE dermal filler can reduce the need for retreatment, which saves you time and money compared with other fillers.
How Does Radiesse Work?
Radiesse dermal filler is made of unique, patented, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. When injected into the skin, these microspheres initially perform as a filler - they immediately provide facial volume for a soft, natural look. The transformation is noticeable right away. Over time, your body will gradually absorb the gel carrier, but the very tiny, smooth microspheres remain. Upon injection, RADIESSE dermal filler immediately adds volume to facial features. Macrophages continue to dissolve the gel carrier. Fibroblasts form new collagen. New resident tissue (collagen) surrounds the CaHA microspheres. The CaHA microspheres degrade and are phagocytized and metabolized by macrophages. Even the small fragments of CaHA are decomposed at the implant site, without evidence of migration.
Safe & Effective
Rigorous clinical testing published in peer-reviewed medical journals, along with independent physician studies, have proven that Radiesse dermal filler is safe, effective, and long-lasting. RADIESSE dermal filler is made from a biocompatible substance that's identical to what's naturally found in the body. There's virtually no risk of allergic reaction, and there have been very few side effects reported in clinical trials and actual use. After injection, RADIESSE dermal filler will not migrate to other parts of the body. Over time, the microspheres contained in RADIESSE dermal filler degrade naturally into calcium and phosphate ions that are safely metabolized by the body's own processes. RADIESSE dermal filler has received CE mark certification, two FDA approvals, and a number of FDA clearances. Thousands of doctors worldwide are well trained in the proper techniques and best practices for the administration of RADIESSE dermal filler.

Fractional Resurfacing
Is Fractional Resurfacing Right for You?
The Palomar Lux1540 fractional non-ablative laser is the latest generation in skin resurfacing technology. The Palomar fractional laser smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin discoloration as well as offers mild skin tightening, but without the downtime or mild to moderate redness associated with other skin resurfacing technologies. The Palomar laser and the Fraxel laser work in a similar way, by treating only a portion of the targeted skin at a time. The Palomar Lux1540 Fractional laser delivers light in an array of microbeams to the skin. These microbeams penetrate well below the epidermis and into the dermis, sparing the tissue surrounding the beams from damage. The tissue within these beams initiates a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue and the fractional treatment of the skin allows for faster healing with visible results in skin color, texture, tone, fine lines and wrinkles. Palomar fractional skin resurfacing treatments are effective only when performed in a series of sessions because each session treats only 20 to 25 percent of the skin. By treating just a percentage of the skin, the surrounding untreated skin drives the healing process, filling in the treated area with healthy, more youthful looking skin. The "fractional" treatment of the skin creates seamless, radiant skin without the unwanted side effects associated with other skin resurfacing technology.
How is the Palomar Laser different from other types of laser treatments?
Until the development of fractional skin resurfacing, there were only two types of laser treatments available - ablative and non-ablative. Ablative laser treatment is effective but requires some recovery time. Non-ablative laser treatment has little or no side effects and almost no healing time, but requires multiple treatments within a extended period of time. The Palomar fractional skin resurfacing laser offers the same effectiveness as the ablative laser treatment, but with the speedy healing time associated with the gentler, non-ablative lasers.
How does the Palomar laser work?
The Palomar fractional skin resurfacing laser is designed to target aging and sun damaged skin by zeroing in on damaged tissue. The Palomar creates an array of beams and each beam penetrates into the dermis, far below the outer most epidermal layer of skin. When the beam penetrates deep into the dermis layer of skin, it eliminates the old epidermal pigmented cells. Surrounding each of these beams is healthy, unaffected tissue. The healthy, surrounding tissue triggers the body's natural healing process, accelerating the production of collagen and the formation of new, tighter tissue to replaces the skin's imperfections.
How is the Palomar laser Different from the Fraxel laser?
The Palomar laser and Fraxel laser are part of a new generation of laser treatments called fractional skin resurfacing. These lasers are similar in that they only treat a portion of the skin, 20 - 25 percent, during each session. However, there are subtle differences in the lasers manufactured by Palomar and Fraxel, which is why it is important to schedule a one-on-one consultation to determine which laser would be most effective in treating your skin condition. With the Palomar laser, no tinted guide lotion or topical anesthetic is required, making the treatment session very pleasant and easy for the patient. The Palomar laser contains a unique sapphire cooling tip, which cools the skin and minimizes discomfort during treatment.
What are the benefits of the Palomar laser treatment?
The Palomar fractional skin resurfacing laser provides similar results as ablative lasers, but offers the gentle benefits of the non-ablative treatment with little to no downtime. Because the revolutionary technology of the Palomar laser bypasses the outer layer of skin, make-up can be applied immediately following the session. Some people are able to return to work and social obligations the same day as the treatment. Other people may require more time to heal, depending upon their skin condition and treatment. Your service provider can better explain how the Palomar laser treatment will fit into your schedule.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of sessions will depend upon the condition treated. On average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 or 4 sessions, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending on the severity of the condition being treated, it could take up to six treatments. Results are immediate and progressive. Over the course of two or three months, new collagen begins to form, creating healthy, more youthful skin.
How are Palomar fractional skin resurfacing laser treatments performed?
The practitioner treats one area at a time, cooling the area before moving onto the next section. Topical anesthetic is optional but recommended to provide the utmost comfort. The cooling tip helps control the temperature of the skin, making the treatment a comfortable experience. A treatment session may last just over an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Is Palomar skin resurfacing laser treatment painful?
A small amount of discomfort is involved but most people find that a Palomar laser session is comfortable. The Palomar laser has a unique sapphire cooling tip that cools the skin before, during and after each pulse light, making the treatment comfortable to most people. Most patients describe the treatment as having a mild "snapping" sensation or sunburn sensation.
What should I expect after a Palomar skin resurfacing laser treatment?
For the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel like it is sunburned and it will appear slightly pink or red with some mild to moderate swelling. The redness or pinkness will fade in a few hours. As you continue treatment, the redness or pinkness process will repeat. Using a moisturizer will help to reduce the flakiness.
What precautions should I take after a Palomar skin resurfacing laser treatment?
Following treatment, it is important to apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 at least twice a day. Also, avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at least three months following treatment.
Birthmark Removal
Café Au Lait
Café au lait spots are pigmented birthmarks that vary in color-brown to dark brown. They are caused by excess melanin deposits in the epidermis and respond very favorably to laser treatment. Multiple (3-6) treatments are required and treatments are usually 8 weeks apart. The Cosmetic Skin Institute in Washington, DC offers laser treatments that can significantly lighten Café au lait birthmarks.
Nevus of Ota
Nevus of Ota is a blue hyperpigmented birthmark, caused by the entrapment of melanocytes in the upper third of the dermis. It is found on the face unilaterally and involves the first two branches of the trigeminal nerve. Nevus of Ota or blue-black facial birthmarks can be treated with the Q-Switched Lasers. Significant improvement (lightening of the birthmark) is noted after laser treatments.
Permanent Makeup Tattoo Removal
Generally, most permanent makeup tattoos require 1-4 treatments. Fading is noted each time a treatment is performed. Treatment intervals are usually 6-8 weeks apart. Immediately after the laser treatment, it is important not to pick at the area and patients are instructed to avoid direct sunlight while the area is healing.

Electric Wave
The SkinBella Bi-Elastic Blade transmits high-speed vibrations to the skin and underlying tissue. The elastic wave modality features both a mechanical and thermal action. The micro-vibrations of the SkinBella elastic wave modality produce a variety of benefits, including the following: Exfoliation of the superficial layers of the corneal surface (outermost horny layer and dead skin cells). Reduced germs on the skin's surface (one of the primary causes of pimples and blemishes). Increase in blood supply (epidermal amd dermal layers). Stimulation of cell turnover (resulting from exfoliation). Enhanced skin moisturization. Reduction in non-pathalogical discolorations from the superficial skin layers.
Stress Wave Theory
The basis of this technology comes from the idea behind dental ablation. By utilizing a piezoelectric mechanism, the dental ablator transmits high frequency vibrations to the teeth. The vibrations are helpful in disintegrating and removing tartar that accumulates on the surface of the teeth. The same principle is used with SkinBella Bi-Elastic Blade by adapting it to the skin and tissue. One of the most intersting aspects of the action produced by the blade is the cavitation phenomenon. The stress wave created by the rapid movement of the blade, along with a thin layer of fluid on the skin's surface, generates small microscopic gaseous bubbles that not only generate convective movement, but also provoke a depolarizing and a superficial catalyzing effect. The very rapid sequence of mechanical stress to the treated areas brings about the detachment of cells from the superficial layer of the epidermis. The gentle exfoliation employed by SkinBella System causes no injury to cells in deeper layers where the stress waves produce an effective micro-massage as a result of its characteristically stimulating action. The high-frequency micro-vibrations produced by the Bi-Elastic Blade also help reduce surface bacteria, which is a primary cause of blemishes. SkinBella has a "stress wave" generator, suitable for the following: Exfoliation Exogenous and endogenous moisturizing Heightened blood circulation Diminished discolorations
Benefits of Skinbella
Helps to increase elastic tone of the skin. Aids in firming tissue. Helps to increase blood circulation to the skin. Provides effective exfoliation. Exfoliation with the SkinBella System is highly effective because it promotes cellular renewal and allows better penetration of products used in other skin treatments. The energy of the Bi-Elastic Blade in the exfoliation function is directed specifically at the stratum corneum, the outermost horny layer of the skin. Exfoliation of the stratum corneum is vitally important because changes in the horny layer send messages to the living (basal) layer of the epidermis to produce new skin cells at different rates.
Advantages of Skinbella Ultrasonic Vibration
SkinBella treatments are non-invasive, removing the stratum corneum. The Bi-Elastic Blade produces an even exfoliation of all areas. Clean, consistent exfoliation revitalizes the skin. It does not use particulates or harsh chemicals. There is minimal redness and no down time following treatment. Visible results are immediate. Skin is left with a youthful, radiant glow. SkinBella's ultrasonic actuator kills surface bacteria, the primary cause of blemishes and acne. Inflamed blemishes can be exfoliated without risk of breakthrough bleeding. Extractions are minimized and can be easily performed. SkinBella is a wet peel. Suitable for multiple skin types. The original medical grade crystal free treatment that can reduce the effects of aging on your skin. Using the patented DiamondTome wand the treatment is a safe, clinically proven therapeutic approach to superior skin care results. Skin Resurfacing is an exfoliation technique for removing the topmost layer of skin, leaving it more supple and vibrant. The DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System removes this layer by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips bonded to the tip of the wand, while vacuuming the exfoliated skin cells away in a controlled manner. Removing this outer layer leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System uses no loose abrasives to contaminate you or the environment.
