Intrusion Detection vs. Firewall
What's the difference between Intrusion Detection and Firewall?
Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems are commonly mistaken for a firewall or as a substitute for a firewall. While they both relate to network security, there is a big difference. An IDPS is not a replacement for either a firewall or a good antivirus program. Rather, it is used in conjunction with your standard security products to increase your system specific or network-wide security.
A firewall limits the access between networks in order to prevent intrusion and does not signal an attack from inside the network.
When you have inbound Internet traffic, at some point you will have to open a hole through your firewall.
An Intrusion Detection and Prevention System evaluates a suspected intrusion once it has taken place, signals an alarm, and makes attempts to stop it.
It watches for attacks specifically designed to be overlooked by a firewall's filtering rules.
An IDP has a database of signatures of attacks on specific applications.
To protect your network, we configure the IDP to the specific applications that you need to let into your network from the Internet. When an attacker attempts to access your server using a signature attack from our database, the attack is stopped and logged. Therefore, the key to a successful IDP installation is that it has a large signature database and that database is updated on a regular basis.

Juniper IPD Products
The Juniper hardware IDP products we use support a database with thousands of attack signatures. Juniper delivers IDP signatures via two different product vehicles. One is a software license and add-on to their firewall product line. This IDP is called Deep Inspection. It provides a database of approximately 250 500 signatures for the most common servers that small and medium sized businesses implement. The second is a hardware IDP platform. Design
The first step for all of our professional services is a review of existing security architecture and the creation of a long-term scalable design that meets the customer needs. Some companies need perimeter security management, while more sophisticated networks have more demanding requirements. Implementation

24/7 Emergency Services
When disaster strikes your computers, DHK is there to help you. If you have an emergency, just call our main telephone number. Our call center is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. When you reach one of our agents, please let them know your name and they will contact the emergency technician.
Leveraging your Support Contract
Because we have at least two different technicians service your organization via a scheduled support service, there will be at least one person available at all times that knows your computers.
Response Time
With our emergency service, you will receive a call back within 15 minutes. Given the severity of the situation you may have as little as a four hour response time.

When a device or application is not operational or data needs to be recovered, we will be available to return it to full functionality.

Regular Weekly Maintenance
At least once per week, our staff will go in to each operating system and application to check the software revision level, perform updates, check logs for errors, and perform repair procedures when required. In addition, backup systems will be checked and tested for operational capability. Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and other critical infrastructure will have their software updated after hours. We will verify that a copy of the current configuration is saved offline.
Monitoring, Alerting, and Trending
Every 60 seconds, 24 hours per day 7 days per week, our network monitoring system collects on average 8 data points per device monitored. If anything is out of operational specifications for more than five minutes our staff is immediately alerted via email and text message. Our customers are welcome to receive the alerts and view the monitoring system if desired.
On-site training
For any support contract of $5,000 per month or greater, we will include one on-site training session of up to six hours, once per month. For contracts of $10,000 or greater, two per month will be included.

DSL
DSL (digital subscriber line) uses existing copper pair phone line wiring in conjunction with special hardware on the switch and user ends of the line. This hardware allows for a continuous digital connection over the phone lines. DSL has varying speeds. In almost all cases the download is two to ten times faster than the upload speed. It is usually classified as an asymmetrical circuit. DHK offers Business class DSL services in 53 major cities in the U.S. starting at $69.95 per month. T1
A T1 operates at 1.544 Mb/s in both directions. It is also referred to as a symmetrical circuit because the speed is always identical on the upload and download side. As for reliability, when you purchase a T1 from any carrier, they are required to place a physical T1 repeater (similar to an amplifier) on the physical line every 6,000 feet from the telephone office. Private WAN Circuits
Wide Area Networks (WAN) are used in companies that need to permanently connect multiple physical offices or locations on the same data network.
As your company grows, you may be in a situation where Internet service is inadequate for your interconnectivity issues.
While Internet connections between offices may offer secure connectivity via VPN, they may or may not offer bandwidth reliability. The Internet may be congested with all sorts of traffic including web surfing, spam, viruses, music and movie downloads.

Within a single metro area, dedicated point to point T1s can be an inexpensive method of connecting offices. In most cases, the monthly cost is dependent on distance between the offices. In order to price a dedicated point to point T1, please e-mail info@dhk.com with the physical address of the locations you are trying to connect. We will take the addresses and solicit for price quotes from multiple carriers to get you the best offer. Upon product selection, we will work with the carriers to deliver and install the T1 at both locations and integrate it with your network. Frame-Relay and MPLS
Both Frame-Relay and MPLS offer different varieties of fractional private wide area network circuits. Frame-Relay is typically used when your company is connecting multiple sites with private circuits and the remote sites are utilizing T1 or sub-T1 speeds. MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) tends to be implemented when the remote sites require greater than T1 speeds and may also need some quality of service provisioning for voice or video service.
