Our kennel facility for dogs include individual indoor/outdoor runs with heated floors in cold months and air conditioning in warmer months.
All outdoor runs are 16 feet long and double-row security fenced and screened for your dog's comfort. All pets have fresh drinking water available at all times. All our runs and cat enclosures are cleaned and disinfected daily
Our facility for cats is located in the main building, separate from the primary dog area.
This entire area is heated, air conditioned, and brightly decorated with a large window and skylight. Each cat has an individual enclosure with a bed, scratching post, and litter box that is cleaned daily
Our entire kennel complex is protected with a state of the art life safety smoke and fire protection system provided by Guardian Alarm.
There is 24 hour supervision, with the owners living on the premises
Our staff members are professionally trained and very dedicated to providing as much safety and comfort for your pet as they can.
They will take the time to talk to you and interact with your pet personally, helping to provide as close to a home-like atmosphere as possible. We have day long-long on premise staffing seven days a week
Boarding Services
Owner-supplied food is highly recommended to avoid the potential stress that a change of diet may cause.
The kennel does stock a high quality food that can be used in situations that are necessary. Otherwise please bring your dog's own food, preferably in labeled and individually packaged for each meal. We can feed your dog up to 3 times a day at your request. Cats are free fed or at regular intervals, also at your request
Owner supplied medications are administered per your instructions at your request.
Please bring specifically labeled medication in the original container or prescription bottle. If your pet has any condition that will require special care, please tell us when making your reservation and again when checking in
If your pet has a condition which will require special care, please tell us when making your reservation and again when checking in.
Note: we will not be able to board diabetic pets, new boarders over age 14 or dogs on medications for heart conditions. We advise those pets be boarded at a veterinary facility for close medical monitoring
We prefer you do not bring bedding from home, but will be happy to provide a blanket to your pet during their stay.
Note: we request that all owner-supplied items be labeled with waterproof ink. We do the utmost to ensure the return of all items left with us, but due to the necessary movement of items for cleaning, etc., we cannot be responsible for lost toys or bedding. We respectfully ask that you do not bring anything to the kennel which is valuable or irreplaceable

Training
All of our instructors are experienced and caring people who love dogs and love their work. We believe the key to a good program is understanding, patience, practice and communication. Our goal is not only a well-trained and well-adjusted dog, but also a happy one. Harsh methods are neither employed nor tolerated. Our Training program offers a wide range of programs including:
Puppy Head Start
Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Obedience Classes
Private Lessons
Drop off Training and Interactive Playtime
Agility
Conformation (Coming in 2016)
Saturday Classes (Coming in 2016)
Our Training Philosophy
Our training philosophy relies on the principles of POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT, a system which utilizes rewards (food, praise, and other) to bring about permanent changes in behavior.
Unlike systems which rely heavily on compulsion, our training not only imparts the necessary skills, but also builds the dog's confidence, strengthens the dogs bond with its owner, and maintains a positive attitude toward learning. Dogs who like their work tend to excel
Classes (beginner, intermediate and advanced) are comprised of a small number of dogs and owners who work together as a group.
The group meets at a specified time once each week for a set number of weeks. The class format included discussion of various topics, socialization with both other dogs and students at the basic level, supervised work on increasingly challenging obedience exercises, and time for questions. Our focus at both the basic and intermediate level is on the practical skills that people want and need for their pet. The advanced class focuses on both practical skills and competitive exercises for dog sport competition. All our classes have multiple instructors and written handouts so that each student receives as much assistance as possible. Weather permitting, classes are conducted both inside and outside on our beautifully manicured grounds to teach the dogs to be responsive under a variety of conditions
Health Requirements
Health requirements for the training programs are the same medical information required for boarding. Please note that these requirements are for the protection of your pet and out other guests. Please understand that we cannot admit your pet to our facility without the proper documentation. All pets in our care are monitored daily for eating, drinking and elimination. Every staff member is trained to provide routine medical care and identify problems which may occur. Should your pet appear to need medical attention, we will attempt to contact you and your veterinarian for instructions. If needed, your veterinarian or one of our choosing will provide care. All Medical Expenses Are the Responsibility of the Pet Owner. All pets accepted for boarding, grooming, or training must provide proof (veterinary receipt or printout) of the following:
Dogs
Rabies (if over 6 months), Distemper Comples (annually), Bordetella (annually), (A titer check from your veterinarian will be accepted in place of the distemper complex)
Cats
Rabies (if over 6 months), Distemper Comples (annually), Negative Feline Leukemia Test

Our Staff
My name is Sue Osterland
The new owner of Common Scents, and I want everyone to be comfortable knowing that all the familiar faces of the dedicated staff will still be here taking care of your beloved pets. Pricing and policies will also be pretty much the same
I have a lifetime of experience and knowledge of dogs.
I have bred and shown some of the top winning conformation cocker spaniels in the country, owned a grooming shop and have experience managing a boarding kennel. Dogs have always been a way of life for me (just ask my kids)!
With Steve and Diane's and the staff's help the ownership changeover is working out very well and I've already had a chance to meet some wonderful customers.
Please rest assured that both Steve and Diane are confident that they have passed their business to a competent person. This will truly be a labor of love for me
Your pets comfort and safety while you are away will always be my utmost concern.
I'm looking forward to meeting as many customers as I can. I will try to ease any and all concerns you may have about having new ownership
