The Colossal Cafe building had many previous incarnations, the most recent being, Me and Ma’s. In February of 2005, Bess Giannakakis began work on the current space. Everything was torn out; including ceilings, walls and floors. Six months (and a great deal of work by many people) later the Cafe opened it’s doors. The immediate support of the neighborhood and the press helped solidify the Cafe as the Minneapolis institution it is today.
