Just like humans, our dog's benefit from fitness plans! Introduction to obstacles and AKC rules for dogs at least 8 months old. Dogs will be introduced to contact obstacles at less than full height, jumping skills and beginning weave skills. Dogs will gradually learn to navigate obstacles at full height and start doing short sequences. Dogs must have basic obedience skills such as sit, stay and a recall and must be comfortable with other dogs. Please have a flat collar (leather or nylon) with no tags attached, a leash at least 5 feet long (no Flexi-leads) and plenty of treats. This is a 6 week class and classes are held the same day and time each week. You must pre-register for all classes!

With our grooming services you can be sure that your dog will be taken care of just like a member of our own family. From nail trimming to cleaning ears, we do everything to ensure that we send your dog home happy and healthy every time.
Boarding
Our climate controlled indoor kennel runs lead to outdoor runs for a little fresh air and some sunshine. Large outdoor play areas surround the kennels for extra playtime and exercise. You must bring vaccination records to include Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella. Food is optional if you want them to stay on their same diet. Visit our retail area for bones and kennel safe toys to keep your baby occupied and happy. We suggest you supply your dogs food to keep them on their same diet. However, we do offer our food at $0.50 a cup. You can bring your own bed at your own risk and kennel safe toys/bones are always welcome. Playtime, feeding & administering medications are all included at no additional cost. We have NO hidden fees!

Day Care
Are you gone for 10 hours at a time working, shopping, or running errands? Your dog needs constant contact and stimulation to remain happy. Your baby can play his/her little heart out under supervision and care. Daycare is divided into two rooms to separate by size, age and energy level for a safe play environment. There is also outdoor playtime, weather permitting. A temperament test must be passed before sign up with a proof of vaccinations including Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella.

Trainers
Teresa Mathern - K-9 Master Instructor
Teresa attended Augusta K-9 Services in 1999 to become a Certified Master Instructor in obedience, agility, police service work, personal protection, narcotics detection, tracking, hearing and emotional support service dogs. She has trained with the Fort Belvoir Military Police K-9 team and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Canine Police. Teresa is a certified narcotics and tracking handler through the West Virginia Police Canine Association. She has been a member of the Virginia Search and Rescue Dog Association since 2001 and she is also a member of the Stafford Ground Search and Rescue group. She is trained in air-scenting for wilderness, water and cadaver search and continues to attend training conferences and seminars concerning explosives detection throughout the east coast. Prior to founding Colonial K-9 in 2000, Teresa worked for 8 years in an accounting position with Ericsson International. She has since worked full time as a dog trainer with emphasis on German Shepherds, of which she now has four. They compete in an array of Protection Sports as members of United Schutzhund Clubs of America, American Working Dog Federation, Protection Sports Association, K-9 Pro Sports and American Protection and Patrol Association. She has also founded a sister company, Virginia Canine Services, which specializes in working dogs to also include Belgian Malinois and Labrador Retrievers
AL Lewis - Master Decoy Instructor
Al is a certified Master Decoy Instructor winning 2011 Decoy of the year with the Virginia Police Canine Association. He is a member of their Executive Board and Director of rules, regulations and training standards as well. Certified Decoy Trainer and Evaluator through the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) working as Assistant Director of Training, K-9 for Culpeper County Sheriff's Office. He is also a certified trial decoy for K-9 Pro Sports and Protection Sports Association (PSA)
Michael Hartnett - K-9 Trainer
Michael attended Augusta K-9 services in 2000 to receive his Master Trainer Certification. However, has been obedience training since 1967. Michael has trained with Colonial K-9 since its inception, attended police seminars, and tracking seminars. He has handled a bloodhound on search and rescue missions as a field team leader requested by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. In addition, Michael has worked with the Madison County Humane Society to train canines for easier placement; and has 27 years experience in facility and administrative management
Marley Loomis - Competition Rally Instructor
Marley has had English Springer Spaniels since childhood and began to compete in obedience in the late 1980's. She started competing in Rally shortly after AKC Rally became available. Her love developed, because she found that Rally stations provided the maneuvers she needed for obedience as well, yet a bit more relaxed. It was a great confidence building experience for all involved. Currently she has two springers and a golden retriever, and AKC titles include CD, CDX, RAE4, and CH. She continues her education attending a range of seminars for training, problem solving and conditioning
Kelly Parker
Kelli is an AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and a member of International Association of Canine Professionals. She has over three years of professional experience following her education with Animal Behavior College. Kelli continues to grow in the training field by attending dog training workshops with her family of four pit bulls
Patti Hutchins
Patti is a very motivated, positive competitive obedience trainer coming into the area from Massachusetts. She has trained, shown, and taught competitive obedience for over 20 years. Patti has put multiple titles on her English Cocker Spaniels and Flat Coated Retrievers during that time participating in obedience, agility, tracking, and field work. She has successfully guided many dog enthusiasts from puppy training all the way through to Utility and beyond. Many methods have been tried over the years and the one that she has found the most results in teaching competitive obedience is with clicker training
Colonial K-9 is a complete training, boarding and daycare facility. Our state of the art indoor training facility is the largest in the area and open for rental. Training includes obedience, agility, fly-ball and AKC Working Title ring readiness and tracking. Daycare is divided into three different rooms for small, medium and large dogs for a safe play environment. Chauffeur service is available from our local commuter lots. The boarding facility has centrally heated and cooled indoor and outdoor runs with 24 hour on-site staff. There is also daily exercise in the outdoor play areas.
