The name Ashtanga means '8-limbs' in Sanskrit. It is reference to the 8-part method of practice in ancient text called the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The practice of asana or postures is one part of a comprehensive discipline of self knowledge and care including physical and mental training. Ashtanga is a dynamic method of choreographed sequences of postures linked with breath and concentration techniques that give practical experience of the 8-limbed method. We offer a variety of Led Ashtanga classes based on the Ashtanga Yoga system for all levels.
Ashtanga Yoga Full Primary (90min)
This class is for experienced students. In this class the teacher will call out the names of the poses in Sanskrit according to the classical vinyasa count. To encourage independence and focus, the teacher does not demonstrate or offer modifications, however you are encouraged to modify as needed. The full sequence of asanas is meant to be learned gradually. If you have not learned the full sequence, you can observe what is to come next.
Ashtanga Yoga Half Primary (60min)
This class follows a dynamic sequence of asanas/poses designed to stretch, strengthen, and detoxify your body. Expect to sweat and be challenged. Some simple hands on adjustments may be offered, and modifications will be shown as necessary. Sanskrit names and counts are used as much as possible. Appropriate for those new to yoga that are in good physical shape.
Ashtanga Yoga Second Series (75min)
In this class we introduce students familiar with the Ashtanga Basic Foundations or Half/Full Primary series format to what is commonly referred to as the "2nd" series in the Ashtanga Vinyasa System. Students are guided through a series of sun salutations, and a mix of the standing postures practiced in the Ashtanga Basic, Half, and Full Primary. The teacher then guides in a workshop fashion an introduction of various 2nd series postures targeted at improving the central nervous system through spinal twists and providing opportunity to develop upper body strength and flexibility not provided for in the 1st series. The teacher teaches each student variations based on their abilities and desire for challenge. The 2nd series provides total balance in the the health of the body and mind! Best suited for those who have familiarized themselves with the Half or Full Primary series.
Ashtanga Foundations/Yin (75min)
This class draws on the poses from the half primary series, leaving off some of the more complex poses. This class is perfect for fit beginners, or those who want to get their practice done in a more condensed timeframe. The teacher will take time to demonstrate or explain the technique for entering postures as necessary and modifications of poses will be shown for all ability levels. This class will give you the opportunity to flow, breath, and sweat at a mellow pace. We end the class with long deep stretches and relaxation. Appropriate for beginners.
Sunrise Gentle Flow (60min)
This class based in the ashtanga series follows the signature technique of linking breath and movement, called vinyasa. It will begin with seated mindful breathing and slowly warm the body in preparation for Sun Salutations. The pace of this class will be mellow and the sequence will be tailored to the students in attendance. Flow will include a short standing sequence, a short floor sequence, and finish with final long stretches and a reclined relaxation. Suitable for all levels.
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, with breath. Our Vinyasa classes offer a variety of postures and no two classes are ever alike. Unlike, Ashtanga which follows the same sequence each practice. The variable nature of Vinyasa Yoga helps to develop a more balanced body as well as prevent repetitive motion injuries that can happen if you are always doing the same thing every day.
Vinyasa/Yin (75min)
This 75 minute session is fun and eclectic in nature. The practice is fun and informative with an experienced teacher who provides support to make the practice accessible/challenging for all levels. We end with 15 minutes of Yin postures.

All Levels Vinyasa (60min)
Expect to find strength and fluidity in this breath driven flow. This all levels practice cultivates focus, alignment, stamina and flexibility. This class will feature an upbeat soundtrack and challenging sequences including unique core work. The class will always end with a set of thoughtful, deep stretches. Intermediate to Experienced recommended.
Yin Yoga (75min)
Yin yoga is the perfect compliment to our yang style of yoga practice. Yang yoga practices include vinyasa, ashtanga, even running, cycling, or any physical activity. Yin is very passive approach to yoga where poses are performed mainly seated on the floor or laying down. The poses are held for longer periods of time allowing deeper access to the body targeting our connective tissues, fascia and ligaments with the aim of lubricating and protecting our joints. These are areas of the body not often reached with a typical yang style yoga practice or fitness regime.

Sweet Soul Restorative Yoga with Live Music with Anne & Sean
$25.00
Date & time: july 13, 2019, 6:00-7:30 pm; treat yourself to the gift of restorative yoga with live music! During this yoga practice, feel the body and mind completely relax and tune into the bliss. Yoga postures (asana) are supported with blankets, blocks, and bolsters to achieve total relaxation of the body/mind. These supported yoga poses are coupled with gentle somatic movements that will alternately stimulate the brain and relax the body to move toward balance. Somatic movements focus on the developmental movement patterns we are experienced as growing infants. They will be primarily performed on the floor and on all fours. Physiologically these movements reconnect the neural pathways in the brain, allowing us to gain more body/mind awareness. Long deep breathing and other rejuvenating breath work will be integral to the practice. The healing vibrational sounds of live music will support the practice. A wide range of ancient instruments from around the world combined with modern looping technology are used to weave an atmospheric soundscape. The music works twofold: first, it gives the mind a place to focus as the body begins to relax and open; second, the vibratory nature of this music is very balancing. Bio: sean Murphy and anne j.
