We offer group classes and private training to meet most training objectives.
Group training classes
Group training classes are a fun and social way to train your dog. Work in the comfort of our spacious, climate controlled training center in Chardon, Ohio.
Wide range of classes
obedience, recreation, certification, special skills, reactivity.
Classes taught by experienced trainers
with a commitment to positive reinforcement training methods.
Private training sessions
We offer two types of services to fit your needs and preferences. Private training sessions are all about you and your dog. You get:
100% of the trainer's time and attention;
A customized training plan with support materials; and
One-on-one coaching for you and all members of your household in the comfort of your home or, if more appropriate, in our training center.
Leave the Training to Us
We do all the training one-on-one with your dog, ensuring the desired behavior is reliable before transitioning the maintenance of the behavior back to you. This concentrated approach is ideal for:
Time-starved owners who just want a well-behaved dog
Owners who are overwhelmed by their dog’s aggressive or reactive behavior
Owners with physical limitations that make the training process difficult
Coaching You to Train Your Dog
We will demonstrate the training process with your dog and then coach you to continue the training. This approach is ideal for:
Owners who enjoy training and working with their dog and just need help getting started
Owners who can commit the time for daily practice sessions with their dog
Owners who want everyone in the household to participate in the training
Specialized Behavior Modification
Complex behavioral challenges are best addressed with a customized training plan based on the type of service that best fits your needs and preferences.
We begin with an on-site assessment and consultation lasting about 90 minutes.
We will develop a training plan to address the behavior
based on severity of the problem behavior, your preference of “Leave the Training to Us” or “Coaching” service, and the number of follow-up sessions that are appropriate to ensure the behavior is resolved.
The assessment and consultation is $125 and subsequent sessions will be quoted as part of your customized training plan.
Mileage fees apply to travel of more than 20 miles from Chardon.
Telephone consultations are billed at $60 per hour, in quarter hour increments.
Behavior Modification for
Fear of people, situations, objects or generalized fear
Destructive or disruptive behavior: digging, chewing, barking, escaping
Separation anxiety
Reactivity or aggression toward people or other dogs
Resource guarding and food bowl aggression
Introducing a new dog to the home
Chill! for Reactive Dogs class

Your dog will learn how to maintain his/her composure in the presence of others and behave in non-aggressive ways. You will learn how to handle your dog confidently in public and manage your dog’s environment and behavior for peaceful interactions with people and dogs.
And if you feel you need more work after Chill!, we now offer Chill! Work Sessions so you can continue the work with your dog.

Orientation to Training Classes at Cold Nose Companions
Monday @ 7:30 PM. Cold Nose Companions Training Center Rosanne Hall, CPDT-KA. Orientation is designed to give you a headstart on training classes. Pups/dogs don’t attend this session, so that you can focus on learning. Topics covered will be how dogs learn, positive reinforcement training and how it works, preparing for class and what to bring, skills to help your dog focus on you and settle in classes. Time will also be allotted for questions, including issues you are encountering with puppies (potty training, crate training, nipping and chewing, etc.) or adult dogs (newly adopted dog adjustments, reactions to other dogs, etc.) Orientation does not take the place of training – it allows for more time in training class to focus on teaching and practicing skills! It also gives weekly access for those with new dogs to information you need. Although not mandatory if you are an experienced positive reinforcement trainer, everyone will benefit from this extra session taken prior to your first class, to focus on how to get positive results from your Cold Nose Companions classes! Class Length: 1 - 1 hour session. Class Size: up to 20 dogs.

Socialization through exposure to novel sounds, surfaces and situations, as well as play with other pups to develop appropriate dog social skills. Testimonials
Here's what some of our clients say about "Chill!"
Heather Ann
"Just wanted to let you know that progress with Foster has continued since our Chill! class ended, and I am VERY happy to report that our evening walks are becoming relaxing. I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to see this training in action, to see Foster handle a situation much better than I expected, and to feel we are working as a team. I have you to thank for that. Anyway, just wanted to give you a little update and thank you again for a great class"
Kellie Turner
"I have taken your classes very much to heart and there is not a day that I do not try to get Toby's walk in our schedule. He knows that too! I see improvement every day and I will never stop "practicing" what we learned from you! To be able to have a walk like we had today was so wonderful and we could not have done it without the "tools" that you taught us! I can not thank you enough for the gift that you have given us!"
Becky & Joe Gellott
"Kodiak and Kenai have been doing very well and we credit the majority of Kodiak's success with life in general to his time in Chill class with you. Carol you would be so proud of him! He has productive walks where he is happy and able to ignore stimuli that used to really upset him. We even had a greeting with the cats on the other side of our gates earlier today and he was just trying to smell them not eat them! He loves working on his commands and has a solid idea about boundaries too."
Courtney & Bill Mathews
"I had to update you on Winchester. He walked right past a highly energetic two year old lab mix at the vet. He was inches away from her. He didn't look at her, though he did sniff her before the exam. This would not have happened before Chill class. Weeks ago he would have lunged at her with his teeth bared. I just had to thank you for creating the class."

Info
Cold Nose Companions is founded on the belief that Positive Methods yield Positive Results.
You don't need to establish "dominance" over your dog or use aversive methods to "show him who's boss." In fact, you develop a deeper bond and mutual trust when you reward the behavior you want. Being opportunists, dogs will repeat the behavior that gets them the good stuff. And everyone has fun!
Who We Are
Carol Peter, CPDT-KA and Chance
Carol Peter, principle trainer and owner of Cold Nose Companions
LLC has always loved dogs, but discovered her passion for training dogs as a shelter volunteer. There, she saw countless dogs surrendered by their humans due to behavioral issues that could have been addressed through proactive training and positive reinforcement techniques.
Carol became one of the inaugural trainers in Geauga Humane Society's Rescue
Village's Homeward Bound program more than 10 years ago, which helped thousands of dogs find - and stay in - loving new forever homes by modifying problem behaviors.
Her commitment to compassionate, positive training methods led her to achieve accreditation as Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed.
She has honed her skills through continuing education and practical hands-on work with dogs that have complex behavioral issues such as separation anxiety, fear, reactivity, aggression and destructive behaviors.
Carol adheres to the highest standards of the dog training profession
and maintains professional membership in the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and Animal Behavior Associates' Behavior Education Network for professionals. She is also an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, as well as the Canine Life and Social Skills (C.L.A.S.S.) program.
Carol shares her life and her home with two dogs (featured on the pages of this website)
three cats, and her husband of more than 37 years. She satisfies her passion for animal welfare by volunteering at the Geauga County Dog Shelter and supporting several rescue groups.
Rosanne Hall, CPDT-KA and Finnegan
Rosanne Hall is an experienced dog trainer with 11 years of experience working with shelter dogs as a walker and trainer
and as a professional dog trainer at a major pet store chain. Rosanne achieved her Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed certification in October 2012.
Her passion for dog training developed as the result of her shelter experience, and the realization that the vast majority of dogs are surrendered to shelters simply because they are untrained.
The behavioral issues people cite for giving up their pets - jumping on people, barking, destroying property, pulling on leash, potty training problems, not coming when called and more - all can be addressed by training. Besides, training is fun, and forms a bond between you and your dog that enriches both of your lives!
Dogs have been Rosanne’s lifelong love, and she has always had rescues.
She lives with three –including Finnegan, a deaf English bulldog puppy. She also trained with her border collie mix, Bailey, to achieve AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certification and visit local hospitals, including Rainbow Babies & Children. Her third dog, Morgan’s hyper temperament is not suited for therapy work - in fact, she says she has a therapy dog and one who needs therapy! But Morgan has afforded Rosanne valuable first-hand knowledge of how to make even a challenging dog the best she can be. Be assured, whatever your challenges with your dog, she has experienced it too, as an owner and a trainer!
Rosanne puts everything she knows about dogs to work for you to produce a happy pet, happy people and a home free of dog issues!
Holly Krueger and Moses, Grace, Twizzler and Chelsea
Holly Krueger teaches Rally, a fun and exciting team sport for dogs and their handlers!
Dog and handler teams navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down-Sit, Straight Figure Eight, Pivot 180° Right, Spiral Right with Dog on the Outside, and Side Step Right. The Let’s Doodle and More Doodle classes are an introduction to Rally, with the emphasis on Fun! Both six-session classes are taught by Holly Krueger, an accomplished Rally champion.
Holly has had a love of animals as long as she can remember - especially dogs.
She enjoys accompanying Moses and Grace, CGC-Pet Partners therapy dogs who regularly visit children with Autism and other special needs, as well as local nursing homes.
While working on Canine Good Citizen and therapy dog certification, she began looking into other dog and handler activities.
That was the beginning of her involvement in Rally Obedience. She enjoys the emphasis on positive reinforcement, communication, and interaction between handler and their dog. Rally focuses on team work and fun while maneuvering through a course with signs challenging the team's obedience skills. She participates in Rally with her two Brussels Griffons, Moses and Twizzler.
Moses' accomplishments include
AKC Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, Rally Excellent, 2010 Nationally Ranked # 4 AKC First and Foremost Rally Novice Brussels Griffon APDT: Level 1 with Award of Excellence (AOE) , Level 1 X 2-AOE, Level 2-AOE, Level 2 X 3-AOE, Level 3-AOE, Level 3 X 2-AOE, ARCH, ARCHX, ARCHEX, ARCHMX, APDT 2010 Nationally Ranked # 13 Level 1 X, APDT 2012 Nationally Ranked # 7 Level 3 X, CWAGS: CW-SR.
Holly considers her greatest training accomplishment to be assisting Twizzler to overcome her
at times, paralyzing fearfulness. She is now able enjoy life with her little tail wagging and joyful gait.
Holly calls home with her Jaden Kitty, four dogs -- Chelsea, Grace, Moses and Twizzler
and, of course, Jim, her husband of over 20 years who shares her commitment and love of their furry family members and chauffeurs them to Rally Obedience trials and other dog events.
She enjoys sharing her experience by helping teams learn Rally and enjoy the bonding and fun.
Beth Mann, KPA CTP
Many people would find being called the “dog lady” a dubious honor

Cold Nose Companions is founded on the belief that Positive Methods yield Positive Results. You don't need to establish "dominance" over your dog or use aversive methods to "show him who's boss." In fact, you develop a deeper bond and mutual trust when you reward the behavior you want. Being opportunists, dogs will repeat the behavior that gets them the good stuff. And everyone has fun!
