The exciting atmosphere of a "Beach Carnivale" thrives at the Captain's Table, a landmark restaurant in Monroe, NY since 1931. Just an hour's drive north of Manhattan, the Captain's Table offers live band music on weekends, and a satisfying dining experience 7 days a week. This Orange County phenomenon has grown (over a 77-year time span) from a road-side rest stop for weary travelers along old Rt. 17, to its current local prominence as "the fun place to go" when family and friends need a recharge and a great meal!
"Our growth in size and popularity are the result of listening to our clientele, and giving them what they want!" say 2nd generation owners, Ray and Mike Hafenecker, who personally manage all aspects of the establishment. "Several years ago we installed a 1/3-acre sand beach adjacent to the Afterdeck. Our original plan was for volleyball tournaments, but it turned out that our guests' children claimed it for their own! You just wouldn't believe how much fun those kids have playing safely on the beach, with their parents just a few feet away, relaxing at their 'beachside' tables!"
On weekends the front parking lot at the Captain's Table glitters with the shiny chrome of dozens of Harley Davidsons. (No gangstas here... these riders are mainly local professionals and business folks showing off their hardware!)
Regulars at the Captain's Table can cite many visits by well known movie and media stars at this popular rendezvous. "I guess we've become famous!" Ray says, with a hint of pride in his family's significant contribution to the area's dining and entertainment scene.
The Captain's Table welcomes everyone from young singles to retirees, and offers a menu to please every taste, including fine steaks, burgers, seafood, salads and Italian dishes. 3 separate onsite bars offer over 30 different labels for beer connoisseurs. Menu prices are noticeably on the light side, considering the high quality, generous serving size, and variety of the fare. The wait staff is second to none... youthfully energetic and highly attentive to every detail.
