We opened the first Buster's Texas-Style Barbecue restaurant in the Portland, Oregon area in 1982. But let's back up just a bit and let you know how it is that great barbecue came to cross the Great Divide.Raised on the smoky ribs and beef brisket of barbecue joints in Houston and San Antonio, my brother Steve and I have always known what separates the 'real deal' from pretenders. We learned a lot about dry-rubbed, slow-smoked meats at those places. And we learned family recipes and our way around the kitchen from our father, who had quite the reputation for making people happy with great food and good times. So, years later after moving west to the Portland area we decided to introduce Oregon to the authentic Texas barbecue we loved and knew so well.
