The Brooklyn Star was born out of chef/owner Joaquin Baca’s love for the food of his childhood — big outdoor Texas barbecues with his family of southern Texas cattle ranchers. The Brooklyn Star serves a menu of American comfort food composed of the finest sustainably sourced and seasonal ingredients obtainable: shrimp from the Gulf, crawfish flown live from Louisiana, 28 day dry aged certified angus beef, Niman Ranch pork, Fritos from Plano, Texas, Amish chickens from Pennsylvania, and produce from local farmers and markets. The full bar serves a selection of classic and house cocktails curated and crafted by bartender/owner Simon Gibson. The Star was unfortunately shuttered for most of 2010 due to a fire, but has relocated just a few blocks away to 593 Lorimer St.
