In this soldering intensive you will fully develop your understanding of how solder behaves, how it flows, how to control heating, and how to troubleshoot problems before they arise. Creating various sized soldering samples will allow you to gain confidence in this important fabrication skill.
The class will cover basic metalsmithing skills and techniques as related to the creation of objects. These include working with sheet metal to create hollow forms, surface manipulation, structural integrity, hammer forming, and design integration.
Students will begin with the key principles of fusing glass onto metal, and then explore alternative enameling methods. Painting enamels, transparent and opaque enamels, over and under firing, torch firing, free style experimentation, rule bending / breaking, and other enameling faux pas will be covered.
In this 8 session introduction to wax working class, you will learn to complete a set of designs utilizing different wax carving and forming techniques. You will start with carving waxes and learn subtractive sculpting methods by using files, burs and carving tools.
Jewelry Level 1
The class will cover basic metalsmithing skills and techniques as related to the making of jewelry. These include sawing, filing, basic forming, soldering, and understanding the basic components of jewelry design.
