Branches Tree Experts provides a range of services which help in the preservation and the long term health of trees, associated with commercial construction projects. Local townships and municipalities have set strict guidelines for the protection of trees and limiting the impact on the environment. In many cases a Certified Arborist is a required on the plans and specification sheet or mandated by permitting agencies. Consulting an Arborist should be your first step to ensure that your trees are protected before beginning a construction project. Our Certified Arborist can review your plans and provide guidance into the best course of action for on-site trees and as side benefit can often save you time and money. We are knowledgeable and have done work in most local jurisdictions and are familiar with regulations concerning tree preservation, removals and the permitting process. We have worked with the following, Takoma Park-Washington D.C.-Town Of Chevy Chase- City Of Rockvile- Montgomery County- Maryland Parks & Planning-Town Of Hyattsville.
Vertical Mulching
Vertical Mulching is the process of making vertical trenches, radially from the base of the tree, like spokes on a wheel, and back-filled with loose dirt or soil amendments. This is necessary when soil compaction over the root zone has occurred due to heavy equipment or construction material storage. The compromised roots are then better able to grow and move freely into these spaces, for improved gas and moisture exchange. This is as essential for trees as it is for any other living organism. Vertical mulching will also improve surface water penetration to the root area and promote the formation of fine feeder roots.
Root Collar Excavation
Root Collar Excavation is necessary when a tree is suspected of having girdling roots. Girdling roots are a phenomenon associated with early growing conditions in the nursery and subsequent bad planting practices, where by the tree roots actually grow back around the main stem and choke the tree. These roots can restrict the movement of water and plant nutrients. Over a period time, as girdling root impinges on the tree base, there will be a localized decline. Growth of the tree's branches will be slowed, leaves will become smaller and lighter in color, fewer leaves will be produced, and eventually branch die back will occur. Sometimes death of the entire plant can result. However in most cases, root girdling can be reversed, if treated in its early stages. After the root collar has been exposed, selective root pruning can be done to remove the offending roots.
Root Pruning
Root Pruning can be used to promote root healing and regeneration, in some construction scenarios, where cutting tree roots can't be avoided. Using the supersonic air spade, a technician will excavate the area to be root pruned, exposing the roots, to be severed, leaving adjacent roots, utilities, and service lines unaffected. The technician will prune, with clean cuts, the roots, using pruning tools appropriate for the root size. Root pruning is one of the most common methods of mitigation prescribed for construction projects, to aid the roots left in place within a tree protection fence.
Tree Protection Fencing and Signage
Tree Protection Fencing and Signage are the first line of defense in commercial projects and are installed as a physical barrier during the construction process to protect the underground root zones and the above ground sections most susceptible to mechanical damage, (i.e. trunk and lower limbs). There are a variety of tree protection fencing, the more durable and heavy duty the material, the safer the tree. The type of signage and fencing is usually dictated in the local permit process.
Planting
Planting is usually an integral part of commercial projects. In many cases replanting is required in the completion stage of many developments. We can supply of variety of plant materials and provide professional installation, which will insure the long term success and viability of your trees.
Fertilization and Spray
Fertilization and Spray services are available as a follow up programs.
Services
The following is a list of services we routinely provide on commercial projects.
Tree & Shrub Pruning
Tree and Stump Removals
Cabling and Bracing of Weak Trees
Hazard Tree Evaluations
Soil Injection and Foliar Fertilization
Insect/Disease Diagnosis & Treatment
Tree and Shrub Installation
Mitigation and Buffer Systems
Mitigation and Buffer Systems can be used to help minimize impact and soil compaction in those areas where restricted access is not feasible.
Root Protection Matting (RPM)
Root Protection Matting (RPM) is used as a temporary buffer during construction to limit root damage by increasing support over wide areas so that light traffic can be utilized over root zones.
Root Aeration Matting (RAM)
Root Aeration Matting (RAM) is a permanent buffer that is designed to allow pore space and increase area for gas exchange with the root zone. This material is utilized when an area grade change is required (fill placed over root zone) which would have otherwise suffocated the affected roots.
Trunk Shielding
Trunk Shielding is wood which is secured directly to tree trunks in high work zone areas, where direct mechanical damage is most likely, and will help absorb blows from heavy equipment.
Wood Chips
Wood Chips are employed in large areas, not feasible by other methods, to lessen compaction from heavy traffic.
Commercial Pricing
All of our prices include disposal of the debris, unless stated otherwise, and all taxes and fees. Discounts are provided for leaving wood and or debris behind. Here is a list of our most common services based on the diameter of trees. We use the diameter at breast height (DBH) method of determining the size of the tree.
