Malbec
malbec is argentinas signature grape. malbec is medium to full bodied with ripe fruit flavors such as plums and blackberries and is jammy. tannins are a bit tight and makes it rustic but yet versatile.

Merlot
a soft, medium-bodied red wine with juicy fruit flavors (such as plums, cherries, blueberries, and blackberries mixes with black pepper tones). the tannin levels are fairly low.

Pinot Noir
the toughest grape to grow. pinot noir has a lighter color and a lighter flavor. flavors of sweet red berries, plums, tomatoes, cherries, and sometimes a wood like flavor (depending on the growing conditions).

italys most commonly planted red grape. sangiovese is the grape used for chianti and chianti classico wines. wines are medium to full-bodied with tannins being from medium soft to firm. flavors may include cherry, plum, strawberry, cinnamon and vanilla. will have medium to high acidity.
pairs with: chicken, red meat, fish, lamb, pork, pastas stews and well-aged cheese.
Shiraz (australia) /syrah
australias spicy, big red wine. has firm tannins but are smooth with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, bell pepper, black pepper, licorice, chocolate, and smoke.

Tempranillo
the grape for spains rioja wines is medium to full bodied with lower acidity and fruit flavors. flavors can include plum, cherry, and strawberry and earth

Zinfandel
white zinfandel is made with the zinfandel grape but the grape skins are quickly removed after they are crushed. this causes a pink/rose colored wine.
zinfandel has a rich, dark color with medium to high tannin levels and a higher alcohol content. zinfandel flavors can include: raspberry, blackberry, cherry, plums, raisins, spice and black pepper and oak.

Chardonnay
chardonnay grapes have a wide range of flavors from the buttery flavor from oak to the crisp fruit flavors of apple, pear, tropical, citrus and melon from stainless steel.
if you are looking for a big buttery chardonnay, look for ones that have been through malolactic fermentation.

Gewurztraminer
does well where the climate is cooler. flavors include honey, spices, rose, pear, citrus and minerals

Gruner-veltliner
one of austrias dominate white grape varietals this grape has higher acidity levels and has fresh green aromas of juicy tropical fruit.
pairs with: almost anything.
Riesling
riesling wines can be dry to sweet and well as light to full bodied. taste of apple, pear and peach with citrus and tropical tastes. they pick up mineral flavors from the soil.
german rieslings can put in categories such as kabinett, spatlese, auslese, etc to show the grapes ripeness level at harvest.

a crisp white wine that is to be consumed early. pinot grigio is fairly acidic. flavors range from melon to pear and often tropical or citrus flavors.
