Myofascial Release, as designed by John F. Barnes, PT, is unlike any other form of therapy today.
MFR focuses on treating the fascia, the connective tissue system in our bodies. Fascia is a whole-body system that surrounds and protects all structures of the body including the muscles, bones, blood vessels, nerves, and internal organs; it travels from head-to-toe in a 3-dimensional, uninterrupted fashion
In its healthy state, fascia is relaxed and has the ability to stretch and move without restrictions.
Inflammation, poor posture, or physical trauma (e.g falls or surgery), can cause the fascia to lose its pliability and begin to shorten and solidify. This causes enormous crushing pressures that spread over time, much like a 'drag' on a sweater to distant areas of the body. Because myofascial restrictions do not show up on standard tests today, such as MRI's, CAT scans, or X-rays, they can often go overlooked or undiagnosed
MFR treatments involve the application of gentle and sustained pressure or stretching to areas of restriction.
This allows the fascia to unravel and lengthen, ultimately eliminating pain and restoring motion throughout the entire body. With the intuitive touch and enlightened skills of our advanced trained MFR therapists at Body Connect, not only can your symptoms be effectively treated, but the underlying issues behind them can also be detected and addressed
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Women's Health
At Body Connect, we specialize in the treatment of the following conditions specific to women (see below for men): uro-gynecological, sexual, and colo-rectal problems, pre-and post-pregnancy difficulties, and chronic abdominal and pelvic pain syndromes. As Licensed Physical Therapists with advanced training in pelvic floor rehabilitation, we can help to normalize the myofascial tissue texture around the body, promote pelvic alignment, and restore normal functioning in the organs of the abdomino-pelvic area
Men's Health
Our specialized Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists also treat conditions that are specific to the health of male urological and sexual function. For men, fascial restrictions in the pelvic floor and pelvic girdle can cause sexual dysfunction, difficulty with urination, or pelvic pain. Fascial restrictions in the male pelvis are often caused by poor postural alignment or scarring from abdominal or pelvic surgeries. Our Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists will help to reduce adhered scar tissue restrictions, and will also help to improve flexibility and normalize function to the urinary and reproductive systems
Advanced Manual Therapy
Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle, hands-on technique that evaluates and treats abdominal-fascial restrictions specifically around the organ systems in the body. Abdominal-fascial restrictions often develop due to abdominal scarring from surgeries, poor posture, or trauma. Visceral Manipulation uses a detailed understanding of anatomy to improve tissue imbalance around the organs. For more information about Visceral Manipulation, please visit: Barralinstitute.com
Integral Bodywork ®
Integral Bodywork ® was developed by Everett Ogawa in 2002, as he took the work of his teachers a step further by exploring core muscle release even more deeply. For more information about Integral Bodywork, please visit: Integralbodywork.com. Integral Bodywork ® is a method of creating deep structural change in the body to enhance overall body alignment, function, and general well-being. The method combines:
The ten-session approach to structural integration developed by Ida Rolf
Awareness Through Movement ® & Functional Integration ® by Moshe Feldenkrais
Milton Tragers trigger point release therapy
William "Dub" Leigh's Zentherapy ®
Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST)
Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST)
CST works to release deep tension in the body, specifically around the nervous system. It is especially effective in the treatment of jaw pain, migraines, neck pain and generalized stress related tension. For more information about Craniosacral Therapy, please visit:
