At Rise Hot Yoga, we believe that hot yoga keeps the body healthy and fit and the mind clear and calm. We support the physical body by building strength, balance and flexibility, and enhance the mind by increasing concentration, determination and patience. With dedicated and consistent practice, hot yoga will help to reverse the effects of aging, regulate metabolism, reduce stress, and help relieve chronic pain. Simply put, hot yoga makes you feel amazing, inside and out. We offer a fun, healthy, and clean environment with a strong sense of community and the highest quality instruction. Our experienced teachers are both compassionate, friendly, and knowledgeable (for more info, check out our bios page). We believe that yoga is for everyone, and that with a little hard work – and a lot of sweat – it can transform us all… mentally, physically, and spiritually. We love what we do and we are proud to be able to share it with you
We strive to maintain a clean, healthy environment with optimal levels of heat and humidity to make your practice the best it can be. And we are very proud to do all of that on our wonderful, new, specially designed yoga flooring. Rise Hot Yoga now has Poly-Extruded Matting (PEM), an environmentally enhanced solution for flooring that virtually eliminates odors, moisture problems, and the hazards associated with other flooring products. This slip-resistant, hypo-allergenic floor is specially designed to allow for fast evaporation, keeping the floor dry. Without moisture, mold and bacteria don't flourish, leaving the studio clean and fresh. PEM flooring contains Micro-Chek® Anti-Microbial, a non-leachable biocide that further guards against the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria. PEM does not release particles, filaments, or harmful outgases like carpet, providing a dust-free and hypoallergenic environment. It's clean, green and everyone is loving it! We know you will too. We also offer mat and towel rental services, as well as a small, but carefully curated yoga boutique featuring performance yoga wear for men and women, yoga mats and towels, and a small selection of books, CDs, and yoga accessories
We believe that it's not enough to just be a part of community, but that we have a responsibility to contribute to our community, and we are grateful to be able to do so on a regular basis. In 2008, we began our weekly donation class to raise money for autism research and treatment for families that have received the autism diagnosis. Several years in, that class is still going strong. We couldn't do it without you so please come sweat, stretch, and strengthen with us for a great cause! Our annual toy drives have helped bring smiles to the sick and injured children at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital and Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and our food drives have helped support the Los Angeles Food Bank. We support the schools in our neighborhood, as well as a number of other charitable organizations, with package donations to assist in their fundraising efforts and yoga mat donations to help make yoga a reality in their organizations. We are proud to be contributing members of our community
The various styles are wonderful compliments to each other. No matter which style you choose, we believe you will feel the benefits beginning with your very first class, and that the rewards of a regular practice are exponential
Bikram (60 or 90 minutes)
Bikram yoga consists of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas), practiced in a hot room and suitable for all levels. The heat is used to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow a deeper workout, and cleanse the body by flushing toxins. It is both therapeutic and challenging, created for maintaining excellent health and fitness, reducing stress, losing weight, limiting the effects of aging, preventing illness, and reducing the symptoms of injuries
Vinyasa (60 or 75 minutes)
Vinyasa, or flow as it sometimes called, is a breath-synchronized series of poses that emphasize hip openers, arm strengthening, and core work. The movements flow smoothly, helping to build internal heat and offering physical and mental benefits. Temperatures are slightly lower than in a Bikram class, but still hot (approximately 95 degrees). It's an excellent workout designed to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and relieve stress
Fusion (60 or 75 minutes)
Fusion encompasses the meditative and detoxifying qualities of traditional hot yoga with the intensity of Vinyasa. This class focuses on opening the shoulders, hips and spine, as well as strengthening the core and upper body. It's an excellent introduction to Vinyasa for those who might be unfamiliar, and a great way to feel the benefits that each style brings. Temperatures are also slightly lower in this class but still hot (approximately 95 degrees)
Nicole fell in love with Bikram Yoga back in 1996 when her sister introduced her to it after a back injury. She practiced for five years before becoming a teacher and then leaving her job in the entertainment industry to open Bikram Yoga Silverlake in the summer of 2002. Nicole is forever grateful to this yoga, which has completely changed her life. Her back has healed, she loves her job, and with the help of the yoga, she can keep up with her three young -- and very energetic -- kids. Nicole feels so lucky to have such a great place to practice this yoga and to share it with others
Kathryn began practicing Bikram Yoga in 2000 to relieve back pain and headaches associated with scoliosis. Through her practice she has watched her skeleton and body gradually change and has grown almost an inch since she began. She no longer has any abnormalities of the spine or headaches. She completed the teacher training program in 2003 and has taught in San Francisco, New York, Maui, Kauai and Los Angeles
TOM is a graduate of the Plan II Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in both Film Production and English. He took his first Bikram class in the Spring of 2002 and was instantly addicted... at least once he recovered from the first class. ("I did not even think at first I was going to be able to drive home.") In nine short months, Bikram eliminated an extremely painful case of arthritis in his hands, and within a year his cholesterol had dropped 90 points. "I'm a firm believer in the health benefits of Bikram. It is why I go. While I was raised in a western medical family - my grandfather and my brother are both doctors - I've come to realize the genius of holistic, preventative exercise. With the wonderful stretching, the intense detoxification and the terrific cardiovascular workout provided in the 90 minute class, your body gets the fullest and most complete workout and cleansing imaginable. I can't imagine anyone who would not benefit from Bikram yoga"
Nancy began practicing Bikram Yoga in 2001 after being injured in a severe car crash while working undercover as a Police Officer. The crash left two of her discs in her spine bulging and pinching nerves causing severe pain. The pain became so unbearable she was taking pain pills, muscle relaxers, and even antidepressants to deal with the loss of her job. Once she discovered she could live pain free from a regular practice of Bikram Yoga without the use of pharmaceuticals, she became a Certified Bikram Yoga Instructor in 2002. During this transformation, she discovered a new way to help people. "One of Nancy 's greatest strengths comes from her sincere compassion for people. As an instructor her knowledge of the yoga and sincere belief for what she teaches inspires the students, and makes her class an enjoyable experience. Nancy connects with people almost instantly, and possesses an uncanny talent to share the perfect amount of knowledge and wisdom without making the person feel intimidated. Nancy listens as much as she talks and is a shining example of what every teacher should strive to be". (Tiffany Song: Bikram Yoga Studio Owner and Director)
Whitney grew up as a dancer. Trained in Balanchine's classical ballet style from age 4, today she primarily specializes in contemporary and aerial silks (i.e. Cirque du Solei style acrobatics in the air). She currently assists, teaches, and performs all styles of dance and aerial as a solo artist and with the Thousand Oaks-based Revelations Aerial Contemporary Dance Company. Whitney graduated from UCLA as a Bruin Dance Team/Spirit Squad alumnus with a double major in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and English in 2007. She stumbled upon Bikram Yoga (at BYS) when a close friend and regular Bikram practitioner, shattered her leg and and ankle during a dance class and was told she would never walk normally again, much less dance. Well, steel rods and plates in her leg or not, this friend is currently dancing her way through Europe, all thanks to BYS. Whitney fell in love with the practice from day one and has seen how regular practice can save broken bodies and minds time and time again. Bikram Yoga has further balanced the strains dance and aerial have put on her own body and increased her self-awareness and security. She graduated Teacher Training Fall 2010 in San Diego and continues to share her passion for the practice by teaching at her home studio in Silverlake to help fellow yogis find relief in the hot room from their daily mental and physical strain, and to heal bodies and minds "all-over, inside-out, bones-to-skin". Namaste!
Valerie began her daily Bikram Yoga practice March of 2007 in Brooklyn Heights, NYC. She needed something to counteract the intense physical theatre work she was doing, and the warm room was like a beacon during the brutal NY winters. From her first class in Brooklyn, she knew this practice was going to become part of her life. The physical benefits quickly became evident - relief from chronic back pain, digestive disease and insomnia, increased energy and focus and decreased anxiety. The practice was a perfect complement to her work on stage, strengthening mind-body connection, breath control and presence. After moving to London to pursue further theatre studies, Valerie competed in the 2009 International Yoga Asana championships as a UK representative. She completed teacher training in Spring of 2009. Outside of the studio, Valerie continues to work in LA theatre as a founding member of ARTEL. Occasionally you can also find her behind the bar at the Satellite serving drinks and enjoying some great local music
Kacie grew up as a competitive gymnast and dancer through her adolescence, which also gave her a great love for the theatre and movement. While attending Performing Arts High School she discovered Bikram Yoga. She continued her theatre education through college earning a BFA in acting, but her love for yoga just kept growing. Right after college she got into the first Bikram Yoga training she could and has been a full time teacher since 2010. Her love for the body and the space it holds has never stopped. Her curiosity landed her into YOGAMAZÉ's 500 Hour Teacher Training. She is a recognized yoga teacher through RYT. Between yoga and gymnastics she has found her home. There is nothing she loves more than helping people understand just how amazing their bodies and minds can be together. This chick loves yoga
For the past 16 years, Diella has been a dedicated student of Yoga. Her journey as an instructor began with intensive Bikram Yoga training; she has taught this style for 9 years. In addition to Bikram training, she completed the Yoga Works 200-hour teacher training (a mix of Iyengar, Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga). Her root study lies in Iyengar Yoga and she is currently over two years and 300 hours into a three-year training. Continuing education means a great deal to me. Diella enjoys staying active in teacher trainings, workshops and intensives. She teaches precise alignment with gentle care and love for each individual body, and she follows the philosophy of Patanjali and the 8 limbs of Yoga
Brian took his first Bikram Yoga class at this very studio - Bikram Yoga Silverlake in 2004 on a challenge from a co-worker. He came back a few days later and never stopped. Because of his regular practice, he is able to stay calmer and more relaxed in stressful situations. No other type of exercise has this effect on how he reacts to pressure-filled environments. He's thrilled to be able to share these amazing benefits at Bikram Yoga Silverlake
Bobby first entered the hot room in March 2009 at Bikram Yoga Silverlake. He didn't know what to expect and did not even have a mat, towel or water! His first class whipped him, but he came back the very next day, and the next! He developed a regular practice, until life made him take a short hiatus, which was followed by a life changing class in October 2010. After that, Bikram Yoga became "IT" for him and his practice became his sanctuary. It was only natural that shortly after, he became a karma yogi. Lapping up as many classes (and cleaning shifts) as he could, his love for his practice and sharing his experience moved him towards becoming a fully certified Bikram Yoga instructor. After teaching at different studios between Oahu and California, Bobby has now landed back, where else, but at his home studio at BYS- thriving and striving to practice daily and teach with all his heart. After surviving cancer at the age of 23, he is committed to practicing this yoga and sharing it with as many people as he can
Ashley first came to Bikram yoga in 2000 while attending college to help alleviate back pain from a snowboarding injury. She soon became a regular student and later became a studio cleaner in exchange for yoga. She loved being so connected to the studio and soon attended teacher training in Spring of 2003. She has since trained in other styles of yoga but finds she always returns to Bikram as she loves that Bikram Yoga is for everyone and anyone
One of the best pieces of yoga advice I ever received was from my first yoga teacher, back in '99. I had only been going to class for a few weeks, but I was hooked. I asked my teacher how often I should come, and she said: "you brush your teeth every day, you do your yoga every day." I took her up on it, and tried a 30 day challenge. My life was forever changed. I lost a bunch of weight, fixed my lower back problems, and most amazing of all, got rid of my chronic insomnia. I attended Teacher Training in 2005. It had always appealed to me, not so much because I felt called to teach, but I wanted to go deeper and learn more about this yoga I loved. Oh, and now I LOVE to teach. Brush your teeth and do your yoga!
Katie found yoga 14 years ago and she was instantly captivated and inspired by the idea of awareness through movement. She is a certified teacher of several styles of yoga, including Bikram, Moksha and most recently YogaMaze RYT 500-hour. Katie's style of teaching is dynamic, physically challenging, and yet always nurturing. Don't miss out on her vinyasa and fusion classes!
