Fort Lauderdale Class Descriptions
Hot Yoga
Our yoga room is heated to allow for a deeper release and to avoid injury. The Hot Yoga class is recommended for everyone, from first day beginners to advanced students. The magic of this class is that everyone is practicing the same posture at different levels of ability, receiving the same benefits. There is an exact position for everyone at every level, which our trained instructors will help you find.
Hot Vinyasa
This class incorporates Asanas from our lineage into a "Vinyasa" (continuous flow) style. Hot Vinyasa is a vigorous class, combining upper body strength, flexibility and cardio and is designed for students of all levels (beginner friendly) seeking a challenge.
Warm Yoga
This class offers a slower approach to Hatha yoga. The postures are held a little longer and modifications are encouraged for students to ease into their yoga experience. The room is still heated, but to a lower temperature. This class is for people who might be healing an injury or need help with the proper alignment.
Yoga to Sacred Music
In this class, we turn the lights off, light candles, and play soothing and inspiring music to our flow of yoga asanas. This class allows students to focus more on the mental and spiritual aspects of the practice, while still receiving the physical benefits. Verbal instruction is minimal, therefore we ask that you take at least 10 Hot Yoga classes before attending the Sacred Music class.
Warm Yoga with Hip Openers
Essentially every yoga pose addresses, in one way or another, the mobility of the hips The physical goal of hip opening Asanas is one of increased range of motion in and around the joints. This class offers specific postures while directing awareness to the process of increasing hip - flexibility; the hip's flexibility usually isn't achieved overnight. Hips require time, patience, and a regular yoga practice. Please bring blocks & straps.
Yin yoga
Yin yoga is a quiet practice suitable for students of all levels of experience. Practitioners are offered an opportunity to surrender, slow down and come back to balance. Many of the poses are seated, supine or prone and are held with muscles relaxed for several minutes. There is a focus on the breath, being present in the moment, relieving tension and letting go. The Yin practice includes powerful mental and emotional benefits as its practitioner becomes quiet, still and mindful of the present.

Domingo Sanz
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and moved to Fort Lauderdale where I first started classes at The Barkan Method Yoga Studio. I fell in love with the practice and was certified by Jimmy Barkan and The Barkan Method Hot Yoga in 2004. I also completed The Barkan Method Level II/III Training and have been teaching at The Barkan Method Fort Lauderdale School ever since. I now have the honor of being one of Jimmy's Senior Teachers.
Emily Lundy
After practicing yoga for several years, I became certified in The Barkan Method Hot Yoga Level I and Level II Hot Vinyasa Flow and am registered with the Yoga Alliance. As a licensed massage therapist, I infuse my knowledge of anatomy into the instruction of every yoga pose so that each student develops the proper alignment to build a strong foundation for their yoga practice. My intention is to guide and inspire all students by leading them on an exploratory journey through not just their physical body, but their emotional and spiritual bodies as well. Regardless of whether a student is a seasoned practitioner or is stepping onto the mat for the first time I encourage every student to find acceptance in each moment and embrace the beauty of where they are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in this present moment. As a yoga teacher, my goal is to encourage each student to play and grow with their yoga practice, their daily experiences, and most importantly in their life.
Lisa Goodwin
Lisa Goodwin is an ERYT500 yoga trainer, inspirational speaker and life coach. She has two decades of experience blending yoga and life coaching into her worldwide worships and retreats. Lisa's additional training includes various styles of yoga such as Bikram, Anusara, Lyengar, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Integrative Yoga, and Ashtanga. She has developed her own sequence which can be experienced on her Warm Yoga Flow CD or Strong Body Stronger Mind DVD. Her yoga flow is beginner friendly yet will still challenge the intermediate student. Since 2004 she has helped Jimmy Barkan certifyover 900 yoga teachers worldwide. She has expanded globally and has lead workshops/retreats in Costa Rica, Santorini, Massachusetts, Arizona, Arkansas, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, Chicago, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, North Carolina, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, and Fiji. She is a professional Life Coach and is certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Motivational Coaching, and Reiki Level 1&2. She inspires others with her unique ability to communicate both intuitively and directly. As a community activist, Goodwin saw a need and designed a program called The Conversation Continues to help people address life challenges using her life coaching skills. Meeting once a month at a center endorsed by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the successful program is in its second year. Women In Distress-Broward County is the recipient of the donations received at Lisa Goodwin's monthly program at George English Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In her The Conversation Continues speaking engagements, Goodwin focuses her attention on personal development and relationship skills needed in daily life. Some of her topics include: Change One Word, Change Your Life, Acceptance Versus Forgiveness, and Creating The Life You Love. As a young athlete, I was constantly in competition with myself and/ or another. On the mat initially, I challenged myself physically but found the real growth happening when learning to find the balance to surrender. Already living a pretty mindful lifestyle, the asana was the link to experiencing that sensation of connecting the body, mind and spirit- and I wanted more! Deepening my practice and knowledge, I completed Level 1, 2 and 3 training with Jimmy Barkan within the same year. I now encourage students to use the time on the mat to give back to themselves as a whole: challenging the body to advance, but also nurturing the body; maybe challenging the ego. I believe the physical practice is a tool to see your true self- and the reward is enjoying that same self off the mat. My classes are fun, dynamic, playful and mindful. I love to explore, try new things on and off the mat. Traveling is one of those enticing things. While visiting other places, I hosts workshops, play shops and Glow Yoga events. At home in South Florida, I teach throughout the community and hold scheduled classes at both Barkan Method studios.
