Martinis
The origin of martini, the classic American cocktail, is obscure. It is certain, however, that throughout its history, the martini has been the premier sipping beverage of the well-heeled. The endless evolutionary process has made the martini both the most satisfying and the most exasperating of cocktails. Although it is one of the most popular mixed drinks, no two people agree on how it should be made. And, honestly, few agree as to the origin of the first martini, which was built around the exquisite synergy of the juniper-berry flavor of gin and the nut -like herbs of dry vermouth. The martini has evolved into a cocktail of personal preference. Whatever your preference, Bar Sol invites you to discover with us this classic cocktail done well… Enjoy

Vodka
The name vodka was derived from the Russian phrase "shizennia vodka" meaning the "water of life" and then shortened to vodka, an affectionate nickname meaning "dear little water." Most historians do not agree on the date of vodka origin, but it perhaps dates back to the fourteenth century. It's popularity, however, is owed to the Russian Revolution of 1017. Prior to the revolution forced the immigration of the last of the Smirnoff's sons, Vladimir, to France, where he continued to distill his fiery spirit. After prohibition in the United States ended in 1933, a Smirnoff distillery was established in Connecticut. Today, vodka hasno challenger among the spirits of the world. Its lack of color and milk, along with its spiritless flavor, makes it extremely popular

Gin
Gin is unique in that it is the youngest of all spirits, dating to the middle of the seventeenth century. It was invented by Dr. Sylvius of Holland for use as an inexpensive medicine, He was the first to add the juniper berry to an otherwise bland spirit. With a new spirit and refreshing flavor, it was called genievre from the French word for juniper. Gin, as it came to be known, found its popularity during times of prohibition, with bartenders using it for medicinal purposes and creating glamorous gin cocktails

Scotch
To a Scotsman, the work whiskey is synony mous with the peat-smoked beverage of Scotland. He would never call it scotch. The history of blended scotch is about 100 years old. When a blight struck the vines of Europe, both wine and brandy connoisseurs had to venture elsewhere. They turned to scotch, although it had no great reputation. The development of a whole new style of spirit was the result. To make the powerful scotches better suited for everyday drinking, the distillers made a lighter-style scotch achieved by blending a high portion of grain whiskey with a quantity of full-flavored malt whiskey. Thus developed the blended scotch suitable for everyday drinking

Whiskey
Scottish immigrants played a key role in the origins of whiskey. Immigrants to the United States with a knowledge of distillation found grain plentiful and cheap but very difficult to cultivate, so they added corn, wheat and rye to the mash. The blend gained popularity in North America and was eventually exported to Europe, allowing the new whiskey to make a name of its own. The original spelling of the work whisky, which was to most the name for scotch, became whiskey. The result was the light- tasting, pale - colored spirit referred to as whiskey
Since American spirits were a way of life, every successful farmer in the Colonial period was said to have his own homes till. After the Whiskey Rebellion, most homes tills succumbed to government regulation, and only a few states allowed distillation. Kentuckians found their state to havean ideal water supply top roduce American whiskey. According to folklore, Reverend Elijah Craigmade the first bourbon whiskey in 1789. He mistakenly used charred barrels, hence the name bourbon which is derived from burnt

Rum
When the Spanish settler sinthe West Indies noticed that molasses in the sugar factories was fermenting naturally, they began to distill rum from the sticky molasses, creating a rich, pleasant beverage. The history of the early stills has been lost among the legends of the swash-buckling pirates, but rum has been distilled since the sixteenth century. Experts argue about how rum got its name, but the favorite is that it was derived from the slang term rumbullion, which described the riotous conduct often caused by rum-induced drunkenness. Modern times, however, offer a lighter rum which is more popular because of its light flavor, and which is easily mixed for cool cocktails

Tequila
Tequila is a fresh - tasting liquor that has a spicy. Peppery flavor. Made in the Jalisco Province of Mexico, it is the most widely used liquor in Mexico. Tequila's popularity outside of Mexico has been fairly recent. It has gained its fame from the margarita, but its origin can be traced to the Aztecs, who developed a wine called pulque made from the heart of the agave plant. A strong herb flavor and a slight oily consistency make this uniquely flavored liquor particularly suited for mixed drinks

Cognac
The most famous of all grape-based brandies, cognac was first produced seriously in the seventeenth century. It is believed by some that the famous cognac of today was the result of a bad grape harvest, forcing cognac grape growers to distill mediocre, light-bodied wines into heartier and tastier brandy. Amber and mellow, with a delicate bouquet and a fine and penetrating scent of vine in flower, this elegant brandy is special. The location of the vineyards, the soil of the region, the time-honored techniques, the wood, the aging and the people devoted to its production make cognac the world's finest brandy. Cognac is the result of a collaboration between nature and man – grape, soil and climate come into play and time does the rest

Port
Port is a wine made in the northern part of Portugal along the Duoro River, which empties into the Atlantic Ocean at the town of Oporto. It is made from five to twelve grape varieties, the most important being the Tourigga Nacional Bastardo, Tina Coaand Tina Francisca are also well represented. The wine is fermented in 550-liter barrels called pipes. When the wine reaches about 4 percent residual sugar, 110 liters of grape neutral spirit are added back into the wine, arresting the fermentation and leaving the wine with some sugar. There are three main types of port, Ruby, Tawny Port and Vintage Port

Sherry
Sherry is produced in the town of Jerez de Frontera in Spain's sunny province of Andalusia. Like the men who make it, sherry is ruggedly individualistic and actually decides by itself whether to be a pale, Light fino or a heavier darker oloroso. The process by which sherry does this is still a mystery, but the wine is an extraordinary depth and complexity
