What Is Thai Massage?
Thai massage is a very comprehensive type of massage therapy and assisted yoga that is performed on a comfortable mat on the floor, and completely clothed.Thai massage combines slow gentle stretching techniques, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue compressions and neuromuscular therapy to increase flexibility, mobility and release tense muscles. In a unique way, Thai massage blends elements of acupressure, Yoga, reflexology, physiotherapy, meditation, energy healing, chiropractic and Ayurveda. Thai massage therapy may also incorporate hot herbal compresses and ancient tok-sen energy line work.
Tok Sen therapy is an ancient method that uses a wooden mallet and peg to send vibrations along the "sen" lines (energy lines of the body). This is accomplished by tapping gently along the corresponding soft tissue over the lines. Tok-Sen therapy can be integrated into any thai massage treatment of the whole body at no extra cost. Ask your therapist at time of session if interested.
Herbal Hot Compress Therapy
Herbal Compress therapy is ideal for alleviating pain, sore pulled muscles and has an invigorating effect on the body. The herbs used in the compress are anti inflammatory, antiseptic, and are rich in antioxidants.
Thai Foot Massage
The Thai Foot massage is a treatment where a small wooden peg is used to stimulate the sen lines by applying specific pressure to the points of the feet. This is an effective treatment for the entire body without having to get the full body treatment. An herbal foot soak will be given prior to treatment to begin the relaxation process.
Thai Facial Massage
The Thai Facial massage focuses on the face and scalp. A relaxing, skin rejuvenating massage will be given to the face and scalp followed by an invigorating herbal compress on the skin.
Benefits of Thai Massage
The benefits of Thai Massage are countless.
By freeing the flow of vital energy in the body, Thai Massage can improve posture, breathing, flexibility, digestion and circulation. Muscles are stretched, inner organs toned and emotional and nervous tension is reduced. Often a deep sense of peace can be experienced during and after a treatment. The approach of Thai Massage, and what makes it so effective, is that it addresses the energy lines (flow of chi) and its blockages, as well as the musculature and fascial network.
Although the main emphasis in the practice of Thai Massage is usually on prevention
(as all disease manifests first on the energy level and can be addressed before it becomes a physical pathology), it can also be of great therapeutic benefit for a range of specific problems and conditions such as headaches, back pain, digestive disorders, shoulder and neck tension, great for runners and cyclists who have leg and hip flexor issues, joint pain and general all over stiffness, insomnia and other stress related conditions.
Thai Massage is especially helpful for the individual who does not get to practice yoga or stretch often enough,
the added flexibility gained after a Thai Massage is comparable to that of the aftermath of a long yoga class!

Balance Yoga's traditional methods include a series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas) which are suitable for all ages and levels of ability.
Each posture stretches and strengthens muscles, ligaments and joints, preparing the body for the next posture in the series. The traditional method systematically moves fresh, oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of your body, to each organ and fiber, restoring all systems to a healthy working order.
This 90-minute program, practiced in a heated room,
is designed to deliver total health through the balancing and strengthening of every system in the body in order to prevent illness or injury, and limit the effects of aging. In addition to the physical benefits of Yoga, this series of postures combines the skills of concentration, patience, determination, and self-control, which leads to increased mental clarity and reduced stress.
