The restaurant proprietors are Maria and Ken Louie, wife and husband, from San Francisco, California. The Louie's opened their first Chinese restaurant in Nice, California in 1982 and closed a few years later to return to San Francisco to open a restaurant with a friend. Wanting to be sole proprietors, the Louie's opened a Chinese restaurant in the Shasta town of Redding after family friends convinced them to go further North. A few families that originally patronized the Louie's restaurant in Nice actually drove to Shasta County for a taste of Ken's cooking. The Louie's realized that Redding was too far for their children to visit family and they decided to return to Lake County, which is only about two and a half hours north of San Francisco. They have owned the Asian Dragon in the city of Lakeport since 1987, originally setting up shop in Downtown Lakeport. In 1993, the Louie's moved the Asian Dragon to their current location on South Main Street.
