Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan
We are very excited to offer this fabulous product at The Artistic Home Studio and Boutique!
What is Chalk Paint®?
It is an amazing paint designed to be used on furniture, but can be used on almost anything. Chalk Paint® adheres to almost any surface - it can be used on wood, metal, plastic, glass, ceramic, concrete, walls, appliances, fabric, outdoor furniture and MUCH more. It is completely water soluble, environmentally friendly, and has virtually no odor! It dries with a velvety matte finish, and can be waxed with Annie Sloan Soft Wax to give it a premium satin finish as well.
Why is Chalk Paint® so amazing?
Chalk Paint® is very easy to work with. It very rarely requires any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors and outside. It can revitalize old furniture, walls, ceilings and floors with ease. It's easy, fun, and makes amazing results accessible to everyone. With 31 beautiful colors, inspired by 18th and 20th Century decor and design, it is easy to achieve different looks when painting with Chalk Paint®. You can add a little water to make it smooth, thicken it by leaving the lid off, or make it into a stain by adding even more water, without disrupting its integrity. Colors can easily be mixed to extend the color range.
If it is so amazing, why haven't I heard of it before?
When Annie Sloan developed her unique decorative paint, Chalk Paint®, in the UK over 20 years ago, she revolutionized the world of decorative painting. Frustrated with the lack of paint options available at the time, she created her signature paint - with its remarkable versatility and ease of use - for everyone from the novice to the professional to enjoy. She called it Chalk Paint® because of its beautiful, velvety, matte finish. (It is NOT chalkboard paint!) Chalk Paint® was "unfolded" to the United States in 2010 by Lisa Rickert and Annie Sloan Unfolded as an international distributor of Annie Sloan products. Chalk Paint® and other Annie Sloan products, such as her finishing wax, Annie Sloan Soft Wax, as well as Annie Sloan brushes and fabrics are exclusively sold at design boutiques, decorative arts studios or vintage home décor stores whose owners are enthusiasts for Chalk Paint®.
What is Wood Icing?
Wood Icing™ is easy to use, friendly to the earth and full of creative potential.
Just when you think you have imagined and tried every possible idea for texture, new and fabulous ways of creating original textures are revealed through fun experimentation with Wood Icing.
The Wood Icing™ products are easy to use.
Most people gasp in amazement when the process is revealed in their first class, but they quickly become aficionados and then what we affectionately call our "Wood Icing™ addicts". Once they start, they cannot stop!
Our two primary faux finish products are water based, Textura Paste and Fissure Size.
Both can be applied to wood, metal, laminate cabinetry and furniture, Formica, and walls. In addition, we carry Furniture Glazing Colors and Poly Acrylic Topcoat, both designed to help you finish your Wood Icing™ projects.
Texture Paste
Textura Paste is a water-based acrylic product, which has the consistency of peanut butter. This may be spread with a spatula or trowel then impressions and designs are made with any number of objects or tools. Use foam rubber stamps, mesh, lace, and numerous other materials. Another option is to trowel Textura Paste through a stencil for a raised design. You may also apply our Textura Paste through a stencil directly onto bare or unfinished wood. Once it has been stained it is hard to tell the difference of real carved wood and a Wood Icing design. The Textura Paste should be allowed to dry overnight to a hard crispy surface, then sand to remove the high spots and clean up the surface. Stain, glaze or paint. Once the project is complete, apply two to three coats of protective top coat for the final finish. You may use oil-based or a water based polyurethane. Clean up with soap and water.
Fissure
Fissure Size is an optional step, which is what causes our Textura Paste to crack. Brush on and allow it to dry to the touch. Apply Textura Paste over the top. Cracks will form as the paste dries. Run out of time before you get the Textura Paste on...Not to worry... Fissure Size will still create cracks in our Textura Paste no matter how long you wait. Put the paste on as soon as the Fissure Size is dry or wait 3 months... It will still create cracks when you spread the Textura Paste over the top of it!! If the design you have chosen does not require cracks and crevasses, then you should skip this step and move onto the Textura Paste. Clean up with soap and water.
