woman in her mid forties desiring facial rejuvenation and profile change. the surgery included a facelift, endoscopic browlift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), rhinoplasty (nose job) and chin implant. laser skin resurfacing was done at a subsequent surgery.
The Aging Forehead
there are three characteristics of the aging forehead: deep transverse lines in the forehead; very active frown and worry lines between the eyebrows; and finally, the descent of the brow also called eyebrow ptosis. this ptosis also leads to a fullness or excess of upper eyelid skin creating an unsightly skin fold and hooding of the eye that may impair your peripheral vision. please refer to the link on eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.
Eyelid Surgery
blepharoplasty is one of the most common facial plastic surgical procedures performed today. the reason for this is that facial aging occurs first in one's eyelids with heavy bags sometimes occurring as early as in the patient's 20's. as time goes on, there is heavy lidding of the upper lids. if this is not corrected, it may lead to visual obstruction later generally in the 50's or 60's. dramatic new procedures are available utilizing either hidden or inconspicuous incisions and resultant scars. blepharoplasty is performed alone in the younger patient and may be combined with other surgery such as the facelift or brow lift. many times, laser surgery is utilized to give a more youthful tighter appearance in the eyelid skin and crow's feet.
Laser Surgery-or Cosmetic Skin Resurfacing.
laser skin resurfacing has been quite effective in treating aging, sun damaged skin, blemishes and scarring resulting from acne and trauma. laser skin resurfacing has offered the patient a safe long lasting alternative to the older more painful phenol skin peels. this procedure is performed utilizing the ultrapulse carbon dioxide laser. this device allows the surgeon to sequentially remove layers of aged and damaged skin while protecting the underlying rejuvenating layers. in addition the collagen or elastic layer is enhanced producing a more youthful, elastic and tighter appearance.
Lipodystrophy
the fat deposits in the abdomen, like elsewhere, are due to a combination of weight gain and the peculiar nature of target fat cells found in the abdomen. these fat cells selectively attract more fat calories than fat cells in other areas. many patients especially men, have thin torsos and extremities, yet have quite prominent abdominal bulges.
