Explore how to simulate the rich, luscious look of wax painting by mixing and applying recipes of faux acrylic beeswax. The class will work with varying viscosities of acrylic gels and tint them with different amounts of color to make several types of "wax-like" recipes. Then students will apply these mixtures to several under-painted surfaces to see how each recipe interacts uniquely over color. Observe the varying degrees of translucency and shimmer of the simulated waxes, see how you can carve into them while wet, and embed items between the layers. Discover how these recipes can be an exciting element in your painting and mixed media applications.
Acrylic Skins
$40.00
Learn how to make sheets of paper from acrylic paint, called acrylic skins, that can be manipulated to achieve an exciting array of effects. In this workshop, students will learn how to make several different kinds of skins from thick to thin, smooth to textured and matte to glossy. Then, we will work with dry skins (that I, your instructor, make for you ahead of time) by painting, cutting, stamping, shaping and collaging them onto painting supports, such as canvas and hardboard panels. During class, we will discuss dry time, adhesion, getting the desired thickness of your skin, and which types of acrylic materials work best to make skins. All acrylic materials will be provided by Golden Artist Colors and workshop-use brushes, tools and supports will be provided by me (your instructor). Please bring a paint smock, supplies to take notes, and a box to transport your projects (at least 9x12 inches in size).
