Duration: 5.5 hours; $315; AnAn Bear & Wildlife Observatory Tour Up for some wild times? Just bear with us for a moment! This trip to the remote AnAn Bear & Wildlife Observatory is your chance to learn about bears while viewing them up-close in their natural habitat! You'll begin your day of adventure with an hour-long, 35-mile boat ride via the Eastern Passage between Wrangel Island and the mainland. During this portion of the journey, you'll enjoy the comforts of a covered and heated jet boat and are welcome to bring along snacks or even a meal. Upon arrival, you'll meet up with US Forest Service personnel for a quick orientation, before traversing the ½ mile trail that cuts through the observatory. This trail consists of a narrow boardwalk without handrails (including around 300 steps) and will take approximately 20 minutes to walk. As you walk, you're likely to spot some of the local black and brown bears that live in the area. Your guides know these bears well and are trained to understand their various personalities in order to keep you safe on your journey. The local AnAn Creek has one of the area's largest pink salmon runs, drawing numerous bears to the area. Other predators chow down there as well, including bald eagles and harbor seals, making this a rare opportunity to observe all of these creatures in close proximity to each other. You'll even be able to make use of a photo blind below the observation deck to snap a few memorable shots. What a rawr opportunity!
